5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome toaster!
I was impressed by this toaster from the time I opened the box (when it didn't even want to come out of the box because it was so heavy!) I have nothing bad to say about this toaster I can tell you that!

It is really unique as far as toasters go. Every other toaster I have ever owned has been a traditional one where the toast pops up when it is done. This one...

I bought this toaster because of the KitchenAid brand name, and because I thought any toaster gutsy enough to come with a $200 price tag might be able to toast a slice of bread in less than five minutes. Big Mistake. KitchenAid quality control must have been absent when this behemoth went down the assembly line. Even white bread set at the highest number on the temperature setting does not brown and it takes LONGER to NOT do it. Frozen waffles? Forget it. You have to put them through the cycle TWICE and they still don't resemble anything you'd want to put syrup on. I'm pissed that I didn't research the product better. I hope this saves others from making the same mistake.

This one actually stays down until you raise it up to keep the toast warm. It might be slightly confusing at first since there is actually a separate button to turn on the toaster, but just a tiny bit of common sense can help you figure it out.

Really, this is a simple-to-use toaster that can do four slices of really good toast. I have seen some reviews of similar products that complain that it doesn't do well with frozen bread. I wouldn't know because I only ever toast thawed bread. However, this does a terrific job with that. As I like darker toast I initially had it up on one of the highest settings, but it did burn the toast. I have lowered the setting to a middle one, and I get perfect toast now!

If you want a very solid, quality toaster, I would recommend the bucks on this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars When will I learn, September 9, 2007
This review is from: KitchenAid KPTT890NP Pro Line 4-Slice Toaster, Nickel Pearl (Kitchen)
When will I learn that not all kitchen aid appliances are made as well as their stand mixers? To say that this toaster was a disappointment would be an understatement. The toast would not brown evenly or even consistent. In a way I am almost ashamed that I spent this much money for a toaster that could not even toast a slice of bread.
Save your money get yourself a Krups.

2.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful toaster, lousy toast, September 1, 2007
This review is from: KitchenAid KPTT890NP Pro Line 4-Slice Toaster, Nickel Pearl (Kitchen)
This toaster looks beautiful on the kitchen counter. Unfortunately, it did not produce great toast. It toasted unevenly (one side toasted, the other just warm), and I needed to run two cycles to toast my frozen bread, even with the darkness control set to the darkest setting. I don't recommend this toaster if you freeze your bread.

5.0 out of 5 stars Cookware, August 19, 2010

The four slice toaster was a great buy. It arrived ahead of schedule. It perform as advertised. We are happy with the selection of this toaster. This is a heavy duty toaster. We felt it would last because of our family size. We have two kids in college and one at home. We all can have toast at the same time without having to wait. We are able to adjust the setting according to how dark we wish to have the toast. It come out the same each time. We are very happy with our choice.

5.0 out of 5 stars This does toast right! Waffles too.Easy to use,and rugged!, March 6, 2012

Have had this unit for over a year and enjoyed every slice of bread and waffle out of it. Fast, but gentle heat and easy to control. Simple slide out trays to clean. Wide openings for bigger offerings...I have even put sandwiches in it to "toast". Hated my last "toaster" oven. An oven is for roasts..a toaster..for toast! Very satisfied toaster "chef". Worth every last dollar.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice looking, but can it make toast, March 15, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I recently purchased this toaster. It is very attractive and seemingly well built, but it doesn't toast well. I believe this is due in part to some of the heating elements (the little wires that heat up and glow) not getting hot enough. I can look in while toasting and see that only some of them actually glow. As a result, I have to put the heat on its highest setting (9) to get basic lightly browned toast. I called KitchenAid directly to discuss, including that they don't show this particular model on their website anymore (even though several dealers are still selling it). Customer service was super friendly. They offered to do whatever I wanted. I decided to give it another shot, they are sending me a new toaster for free. I bought this toaster mostly for its looks. $30 toasters work better, but don't look this cool in the kitchen. They key when buying a toaster (as I now know) is all in the power and the elements. How many watts? How many elements? What gauge? How far from the toasting surface, etc., etc. Hard to find all this out if you are buying online. If you are looking to make a lot of consistent toast...go for a lower priced model from a company that specializes in toasters. If you want a great looking toaster, you will have to go to a higher-end brand name, that offers toasters to compliment their line...even if they aren't as good as their core products that made them great (in this case...the KitchenAid mixer).

5.0 out of 5 stars Quite a toaster, August 24, 2007

A toaster is one of those things you would think you could pick almost at random and do just fine, but it's not. So many of them are just really poorly made. This one is really awesome. It looks good, it weighs a ton, and is very well made. Oh, and it makes really good toast, with reliable doneness settings. Pulling the bread down into the toaster does not turn the toaster on; and the toast does not pop up when it is done. But it's very easy to use, and the fact that it doesn't pop up simply means that your toast won't get cold as fast. You may not be able to drive the world's finest car, but perhaps you've got enough cash to buy one helluva toaster.

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing Toaster, December 6, 2011

This is an Amazing Toaster. I ordered the toaster as a novalty, to go along with the rest of my Proline Appliances. I was blown away by the sturdiness and the all metal construction. Yes it's heavy, but the shear weight of the toaster is not a distraction for me. It is not only well built but toasts and warms every thing perfectly. I especially enjoy how my food stays warm when toasting has finished. Getting used to adjusting the settings took a little time but well worth the investment. My toaster is an attractive item to look at on my kitchen cabinet. I truely believe this is the only toaster I will ever have to purchase. Excellent appliance and I am 110% statisfied with my purchase.

5.0 out of 5 stars Show Piece, October 2, 2011
This review is from: KitchenAid KPTT890NP Pro Line 4-Slice Toaster, Nickel Pearl (Kitchen)
I purchased this toaster both for the brand name and for the appearance. It is a little pricey, but the quality seems to be there. I previously purchased, and returned, a less expensive name brand toaster. The other toaster was very flimsy, having thin sheets of metal, and was in fact damaged in the box!
The KitchenAid model, on the other hand, is very solid and weighs over 15 pounds! The only plastic I can see is on the control handles. It's built to last.
Having separate controls for lowering the toast and for turning the toaster on took only a short time to get used to and quickly becomes second nature. In fact, it's been handy when toasting odd-sized bread.
I've read other reviews for this, and other toasters, about the quality and eveness of the toasting. For this reason alone, many brands of toasters are being given both high and low marks. If you expect perfectly evened toasting, you won't be happy with this or most any toaster. I just want nicely toasted bread without any fuss and that is what I'm getting, so I am very happy.
If you can't afford this, don't buy it. It's not cheap. If you can afford it, I think you'll be happy with it. It does look great sitting on the kitchen top also!
