All those cooking shows made me buy this. I have always admired these kitchen-aid mixers... but never thought I'd get THAT much use out of them. I watched a cooking show... where they made chocolate mousse. That was the last straw. Now I can't say how glad I am that I got this! My cookie dough is done as fast as I can measure out the ingredients! I was too lazy to mix the dough well before... so I rarely made cookies. The first week this was home I made 3 batches of delicious cookies, an angel food cake, a meat loaf, mountians of whipped cream, and the chocolate mousse. Clean up is easy too. Plus this cool chrome-esque color looks awesome in my kitchen. Only now I'll have to join a gym.

Great Tool, but with minor setback...,

I love KitchenAid mixer. I had the classic 4.5 quarts before and had a lot of fun with it. Great for kneading, making scones, etc. So, when I saw the 5 quart model on sale, I jumped at the chance to purchase it. Same as before, but only bigger, right? Well, it worked great until I realized that the dough was being left at the bottom of the bowl. So, I figured it's because of the height so I lowered it a bit. Now, keep in mind that nowhere in the booklet of instruction does it tell you how much the tolerance should be. I went to their live help to get that number which is 1/16". (Another advice: Use paddle attachement for the height measurement. Dough Hook will give you falst reading) So, here I go with lower height setting. I noticed that the top part would twitch everytime it kneaded the dough. After making the dough, I found a ground up spot on the dough hook and scratch marks on the bowl. I had to replace the dough hook but fortunately, the scratch on the bowl was minor enough. So, once again, I'm trying to knead something. I thought I heard some scratching noise again, so I raised the height about a half turn. Next thing I know, I couldn't lock the head in because nothing was lining up anymore. So, here's my recommendation: Get KitchenAid for it's an awesome gadget to have. But... DO NOT TOUCH THE SETTING ONCE YOU BUY IT. I put the paddle attachment and sorta got the 1/16", but it's not the same anymore... That's a shame, though, for such a great tool. I think I'll try to upgrade to the professional series where the setup is totally different and hopefully will have better luck.

Disappointed,

I purchased this mixer after wanting one for too many years to count. Unfortunately, I ended up pretty disappointed and returned it and purchased the 5.5 qt Cuisinart instead. First the mixer arrived with some minor cosmetic damage to it. Not a functional problem but still for the price it should not arrive damaged. Second it could barely mix a small batch of fondant for a cake, the motor was just not powerful enough. I do not know how it could have possible mixed a few loaves of bread. When I was done mixing the fondant I noticed the applied covering to the dough hook had started to peel off. Another small issue I had was the design of the bowl made it hard to scrape the bowl without hitting the beater and getting batter all over your hand. Not really a big deal but an annoyance. I really wanted to love this mixer but there were too many issues and I ended up returning it. I was pretty disappointed because I had heard KitchenAid is the best mixer on the market. I then read on cooks illustrated that the Cuisinart 5.5 qt mixer had beat out the KitchenAid Artisan in their tests. So with some hesitation I purchased the Cuisinart and could not be happier. If you plan on doing more than mixing up a cake mix occasionally I would highly recommend you spend the extra money on the KitchenAid Professional or try the Cuininart 5.5 qt if like me you don't have that kind of money to spend.

KitchenAid Mixer #2,
By A Customer
This review is from: KitchenAid KSM150PSMC Artisan Series 5-Quart Mixer, Metallic Chrome (Kitchen)
We have just ordered our 2nd KitchenAid Mixer. The 1st one just broke the tilt base after almost 40 years of bread dough, cake mixes, and grinding for a house hold of 6. Everything (except the broken base) is still working just like it was new, no oil leaks or funny noises. KitchenAid doesn't make replacement parts available to individuals, so we are getting another one. Changing from the then popular Avacado green color to a gray. It has out performed every other appliance we have owned. If only Microsoft operating systems would be a fraction as good... WOW.

Worth the money!,

My husband gave me a Kitchen Aid professional stand mixer for Christmas...it was too large and the head didn't tilt back. I returned that one and got a white Kitchen Aid Artisan stand mixer. The professional mixer was great...just too bulky for me for just home use. The Artisan has the higher wattage motor that I wanted (325watts) and the tilt back head feature that is so convenient! I use this mixer exclusively...no more digging around to find my hand-held mixer. I leave it out on my counter all of the time and that makes it ultra convenient. I was worried about mashing potatoes, that they would become cold going into the bowl of the mixer, but that is not the case. If you use cold or hot water baths...this is not the mixer for you since there is no way to put another bowl of water under the bowl of this mixer. You would need to get a mixer with a lift such as the Professional or Epicurean Kitchen Aid. You won't be dissappointed with this mixer!

I have tried MANY cheap mixers, both stand and hand held. This mixer, is by far, the best I have ever used and on the market. If you're thinking of trying a KitchenAid mixer, don't delay and order today!
I got at an excellent price here on Amazon and in record time. I ordered it late Wed. night and got it Friday morning! I am very pleased with not only the mixer but the service.

MADE TO LAST,

As a kid I remember making whipped cream with a Kitchenaid stand mixer. My mother used that machine several times a week to make dough, batters, etc. Many things changed over the years, furniture, different kitchen gadgets, even the family car....but the mixer stood like an icon on the kitchen counter. It was white originally and gradually faded into a pale yellowish from age. But the color was the ONLY thing that faded. It always worked. My new mixer has a long tradition of quality and from everything I see...they just made it better, not something that happens often today. Come to think of it, I've never seen one of these mixers that didn't work. Anyone know where the old one's go? Thanks Kitchenaid.

I finally replaced my 18 year old Sunbeam mixer with this incredible KitchenAid machine and I am in heaven! I've rekindled my interest in cooking and have purchased a number of KitchenAid attachments for it and am tickled pink with the results. It's great to be able to set something to mix and be able to walk away and work on getting the next part of the recipe ready. I love the job it does kneading, too! The mixer size is just right...not to big...not too small. Initially I went a little wild and ordered one size up from this only to get downstairs and measure and realize that it was not going to fit on the counter under my wall cabinets. Came back up to the computer, cancelled that and ordered the Artisan instead. What a machine!

This stand mixer is a god-send. I 100% agree with the reviewer that said this is what American-Made means. I wish more things we all spend our hard earned money on, provided this much satisfaction. KitchenAid has been a staple of the kitchen for so many years, and their stand mixers have become somewhat of a status item. All that aside, it stands up to all the food thrown into it, and makes unbelievable creations. It is well worth the extra money and has many versatile options. This model is perfect for the home.

This seems to be the best stand mixer and is sort of a staple in any cook's kitchen. Honestly I don't think I've ever heard of another brand's stand mixer being mentioned. I haven't tested various stand mixers but I think my KitchenAid 5-quart is awesome. It mixes well at various speeds. I don't think it's missing anything or needs any sort of improvement - as far as I can tell after baking a couple of pies and a cake. If you love to cook (which I do, and have recently developed an interest in baking) then you need this. I think every cook needs this stand mixer. If you're bothering to read these reviews for this item, I would think that means you're seriously considering buying it. Let me tell you that this is the stand mixer to get, so go ahead and get it. Go on, go ahead and get it. The sooner you order it, the sooner you'll have it and will be able to make all sorts of dishes and desserts:)
