Fantastic piece of machinery,
By
This review is from: KitchenAid PRO 500 Series 5-Quart Mixers (Kitchen)
This mixer is absolutely fantastic! The lift mixer is so much better than the stand style mixers in that the stand mixers get worn out and the bowl tends to jump around. I used to work with a stand style mixer and I would have to put all of my weight on the bowl while I was mixing stuff to keep the bowl from flying out into the kitchen! The motor is super powerful and I am very pleased with it. Since I started making everything we eat from scratch it is nice to have this great mixer to save me the labor of hand mixing stiff doughs and such. I noticed other people had problems with it. One person wrote that the bowl didn't stay in place at all, it needs to be snapped in, if you look at the back on the mixer you'll see a strip of metal where the bowl slides into, on the bowl where it meets the mixer is a metal nub, that's where it is supposed to snap in. They also said that they put the attachments in the dishwasher and they changed color. The instructions say to hand wash them ONLY!!!
It was an absolute pleasure just opening the box up that it came in. It came just as the seller described, brand new and shiny red. I look forward to years of use and everyday I admire it in my kitchen!

Not like the old Hobart made ones, but still great,

I love my Pro 500. I use it to make pizza dough at least twice a week, plus whatever other baking we do. Never a problem. Grinds a little and makes noises that my old Hobart-built Kitchenaid never made, but that's what you get when current owner Whirlpool rides on the old reputation instead of maintaining it.
No new Whirlpool-built KitchenAid mixer will ever have the quality or anywhere near the lifespan of the old Hobart-built ones. That's a fact. But they are still the best for the money especially if you are too smart to pay retail. As far as "plastic" gears go, this has been done in Kitchenaid mixers for many decades. It has nothing to do with being cheap. There is only ONE non-metal gear, it is nylon, not plastic. Its designed purpose is to strip out and fail instead of allowing whatever the problem is to bind the motor and ruin it. Without a nylon gear, dropping a spoon into the mixer would destroy the motor in seconds. Would you rather replace the motor or a little gear?

Got a great buy on this larger size stand mixer from Amazon. I was not sure if I need this large a size, but for the money it was definitely worth it! I am not a professional baker, but I do make wedding and birthday cakes for family and sometimes I need to make a lot of frosting so I figured why not. You can make so many things with this, and it feels almost like your cheating when your doing your baking! It basically does all the work. The machine is very quiet when your operating it, and it looks nice and sleek and performs wonderfully. The only drawback to this machine is that it is so large you have to move it back and forth on the counter top because it does not fit well underneath when you actually are using it- and to move it, it is very heavy- if you have problems with your hands or arms, this would not be the machine for you. Besides that fact, I would recommend this product highly.

My first KitchenAide is a disappointment,

I just bought this machine last week and it arrived today. I made a batch of cookies to test it out and was a bit disappointed. I knew when I ordered this one that the head didn't tilt, but I didn't realize how difficult it would be to retrieve the bowl or add ingredients. The flour chute is only somewhat helpful and because the head covers most of the bowl, I found it difficult to add the flour. After the 3 cups of flour, the motor started grinding and the machine was vibrating all over the counter. I actually had to hold it in place. I only let it mix for a minute or two. Once it was done mixing, I had to remove the beater, which was completely covered with dough, fight with it while trying to get the batter off, finally giving up and removing the bowl with the beater inside. After cleaning the beater, I still had to mix a little by hand, as the beater doesn't reach to the edges and bottom of the bowl. Overall, I think I may have a lemon with the difficulty the machine had with a small batch of cookie dough. I understand most people love these machines, so I'm willing to concede that my particular one may not be up to their usual standards. I am sending this one back, but I am going to try another KitchenAide. They may not be the mixer of my Grandmother's day, but I still see them consistently get higher marks than other brands. My personal recommendation is to get one with a tilting head. Hopefully, that will make adding ingredients and doing a quick hand-scrape of the bottom of the bowl easier.

I love this mixer! I have had no problems as reported by the previous reviewer. It's power and performance are matched by no other and are of great kitchenaid quality.

Beautiful Machine. It works just OK. Don't expect too much out of it,

I just loved its red color. The first receipe I made was tamale dough, which happened to be just delicious. Then, we prepared 'King's bread roll' dough. The machine worked just fine this time too.
For the latter receipe, I noticed that its motor got rather hot with a load about 1.5 lb or less, which I considered a light load. I had more expectations about its ability to manage heavier loads. The flat beater, the dough hook, and the wire whip worked just fine, but the pouring shield was useless. It rattled and bumped a lot from the bowl. I would classify this appliance in the amateur side rather than in the Pro side. Thanks for reading my review

The kitchenaid is great!!! I am always baking cakes and I have to say I don't know how I survived without it!!! My only complaint (well it is my fault) dont leave your paddle or any attatchments with a drop of water on it...I didn't dry it off all the way after handwashing and the finnish came off in a few spots! :(

I had to buy a new stand mixer after my old one literally went up in smoke. It lasted 30 years. After reading many reviews on the Amazon website I decided to go with the pro model. It was more expensive but better build I thought. The moter parts are metal and I have not had the loud noise that some others have complained about. Compared to my old Sunbeam this one works like magic. It mixes all the ingredients in less than half the time and I use my spatula only sparingly. My only complaint is the paddle blade. It has to be dried immeriately after washing(instructions came with the mixer). After all the money I paid for this surely the company could have a better quality metal. All in all tho, I am very satisfied with this mixer and plan to do a lot of baking this winter.

Broke right after the warrenty expired,

About 1 month after its 1-year warranty expired, the gears stripped and it no longer works. I never asked it to do anything more difficult than creaming butter and sugar. They tell me it will be about $200 to repair. Pretty disappointing for a product that only cost $300 to begin with.

I really like this mixer, at first I didn't think I'd like the bowl dropping down, but it is easy to use. I have arthritis so being able to manipulate buttons and levers are sometimes a problem. This mixer has a lot of power and is a no-nonsense appliance.
