I hemmed and hawwed A LOT before taking the plunge and buying this mixer. I tend to over-research every big purchase I make and end up second guessing my decision many times over.... however, since this arrived and I've used it several times, I must say that I am very pleased with it.

To those who worry that they will not like the bowl lift (vs. the Artisan tilt) -- it's nothing to be worried about. It's so easy to use. The attachments take 2 seconds to attach and un-attach. And like any mixer, you take off the attachment and clean the batter (or whatever) out with a spatula and there you are. I read some review where the lady was concerned about wasting her batter. What?! I don't think she was un-attaching her paddle. I think she was trying to pull her bowl out from underneath -- you're not supposed to do that. Just un-attach the beater/paddle/hook and take both it and the bowl out and clean it off before you continue on with your baking. There is no wasted batter.

Another helpful push toward the bowl lift -- you can use a cold water bath or warm water bath depending upon what you are making. Not so with an Artisan.

Also, the pros all use bowl lifts. I think there are mechanical reasons for this. I read several things about the neck being a weak point, and also the swinging up and down causing things to shift. But I'm not an engineer so I have no idea if those are really serious issues. I also read that people LOVE their Artisans -- so like someone trying to decide between a Honda and a Toyota -- I think both are probably great choices and you wouldn't be UN-happy with either choice. (Unless something major goes wrong.)

And one last thing. Everyone made it out to be this GI-NORMOUS thing that weighed more than an elephant. I'm not a big person. I don't work out. It's not THAT heavy. I'm not going to go carrying it around the house. But when it arrived, I put more oomph into picking up the box than I even needed... so, that was a pleasant surprise.

This product is a big transition for someone accustomed to using a hand-held beater. It's very sturdy and does not bog down with thicker batter. Mixes throughly and the splash guard is somewhat awkward, but works.

However, I wish this either tilted back or had a way for you to spin as much of the batter off the beater as possible. Disconnecting the beater and removing it while the bowl is still in place leaves more batter than I like on the beater and trying to remove the bowl with the beater still attached is even worse. I spend too much time scraping batter off the beater. Maybe buyers who are not as cheap as I am won't be bothered by this, but I hate to waste anything.

great performance and love the no fingerprint black color. i am very happy that all my old bowls and beaters and attachments fit this new machine. my former K-5 died after 40 years of constant use. i expect a long time of reliable service from this one too.

I bought this product after using a similar mixer at my sister's house making 33 dozen Christmas cookies, and I instantly fell in love.

This makes EVERYTHING easier from baking, to every day cooking. It's easy to use, easy to clean, and the attachments are wonderful! I make almost everything from scratch now because it's so much simpler. Not having to hold on to a hand mixer in one hand while trying to slowly add dry ingredients in the other is so nice. It also whips up mashed potatoes in a second, and makes home-made frosting/icing a breeze. I would recommend this to ANYONE who likes to bake or cook. From beginner to expert, it makes baking a lot simpler!

I love this mixer. I used to have one before, but somehow lost it. It is the greatest mixer I've ever used. It comes in handy when making lots of cookies around the holidays. You can buy attachments for slicing, shredding, making pasta, fruit and vegetable strainer, plus some other ones. I love it because the top doesn't flip up.

Before I say anything else about this product, please let me refer you to their website to read about the proper way to adjust your "beater to bowl distance". It's important that you do this so no batter is left unmixed stuck to the bottom of the mixing bowl. I bought this a little while ago when I decided to equip my kitchen with the things I always wanted, I really needed, and was never able to afford before. Ever since I got this and my Le Creuset pots, I feel like a grown up woman! This machine is to me what a drill and good tools are to many men I've known. I love to turn this baby on and hear that motor go. The clean up is a lot easier now that I don't use a hand mixer. It seems like a big mess was always inevitable with the hand held one. Also, with this machine I can knead breads without slaving over the dough. I like having the ability of grinding meats, making sausages, homemade breads and sweets and other dishes in a snap because that way I can better control what goes in my body. This machine has helped me in my efforts to eat a cleaner diet with less additives and preservatives. I chose this color over others because no fingerprints show on it and because I like a more modern and industrial look to my kitchen. I'm not the kind that gets a girly pink anything :D

I was really happy with the finish when I received the product. It is not covered with enamel as most over Kitchen Aids available in stores. The black finish is actually anodized steel, which gives the whole device more solid industrial strength look.

I am very happy with the mixer I purchased. It is very well built and does a great job mixing batter. The handle to raise the bowl is very easy to use. It is certainly a great product for the price.

The only drawback is removing the bowl is not as convenient as it could be.

I have looked at the Kitchaid mixers for years and I finally bought one after getting an incredible price on this one. It is SUPER heavy and well made. I used it several times over the holidays and it worked flawlessly. I actually began searching for things to make just to have an excuse to use it! I absolutely love it and I am extremely happy with my purchase.

I didn't think I'd like the bowl lift, but I couldn't justify getting the artisan when the price on this one was so low. I'm so glad I went with the bowl lift. I've never used the tilt head, so I don't know the difference, but this mixer is amazing. I love that I can just add the ingedients, turn it on, and its mixed. Its perfect. The bowl lift is so easy, I don't have to fight with anything to get the bowl out of the stand. Fantastic machine.
