Product Description

Amazon.com Review

I like toast, but I never thought of toast as fun until I tried this Digital Ultra Power Plus toaster from KitchenAid. It's hard to be grumpy when you're toasting the morning bagel in a shiny toaster. And not just that--the digital control pad lets you select the exact browning shade you prefer. The long slots are extra-wide and fit two bagels or thick slices of homemade bread side by side (it also fits two chocolate chip toaster waffles). With its internal heat sensor and advanced heating elements, you'll always get perfectly crispy toast and baked goods. --Dana Van Nest

4.0 out of 5 stars Not quite enough capacity, December 19, 2000
Kitchenaid is a trustworthy brand. They give great service via an 800 number with a real person at the other end, and a good warranty. The appliances are nearly always well thought-out. These relatively expensive toasters are quietly good-looking, they come in colors, and work well. So of course I wanted one.

This toaster takes up comparatively little space on a countertop, a real plus. Its sensible and visually pleasing control panel is a pleasure. However, it promises to toast two slices of bread at a time in its "extra-wide slot." (The Amazon Editorial Reviewer mentions "the slots," which is misleading. There is only one slot.) In fact, the slot will accept two halves of bagel and toast them to your specifications (and the settings feature is excellent), but due to its dimensions the slot will not, for example, accept two slices of conventional (packaged) rye bread, or a couple of slices of a variety of other bread types. There just isn't the room. Part of the slices will stick out of the top. Not so good!

Evidently that's the tradeoff for the appealing sleekness and size of this appliance. Not enough capacity, though. I'll wait for a "four slice" version.

3.0 out of 5 stars Squashed Engish muffins!, February 8, 2001

Yup, it's real pretty and takes up very little counter space, but we're big consumers of English muffins, and this applinace just can't handle them--they come out squished on the bottom and don't pop out high enough to remove without sticking a fork into the toaster, which of course requires any sane person to unplug the toaster first. The "not popping high enough" problem occurs with other items as well, and yes, I used the doohickey that pushes the toast up higher and that still wasn't enough. All told, pretty average performance for a very high-priced product, unless you're in it for the looks alone.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for frozen stuff, August 11, 2000
By A Customer
Let me say first that I am a Toaster Strudel and Toaster Scrambler fanatic. If you've ever tried these things in a normal toaster you know that to get the inside hot you usually burn the outside. Not with THIS toaster. The FROZEN button pre-heats for a little while before cranking the heat to maximum. This thing does a great job with frozen pastries. No more burnt outsides. Another thing, the slot is long enough you can load up three Toaster Strudels side-by-side. For Toaster Strudel perfection with 3 pastries hit the frozen button and set the darkness control to 7. Code-slingers take note...get one of these for your break room.
