Toasts 2 or 4 slices fine, burns 1 or 3 slices,

This toaster works ok, but not nearly as well as I had hoped. You can toast either 2 or 4 slices quite well, but if you try to toast a single slice or 3 slices, the slice that is by itself always ends up burnt. Kitchen Aid would have done much better by making this toaster with four individual slots, rather than 2 long slots. A single slice of toast just can't take all the heat that the long slot puts out. Also, you always have to turn down the heat for subsequent batches by at least 1 notch, even though KitchenAid claims you will not have to. I did time it, and subsequent batches are shorter, as they are supposed to be, but the toast still gets burnt if you don't turn it down. Tried the frozen function with bread and it worked fine. Haven't tried bagels yet.

I bought this when it cost a lot more, and that was only a few weeks ago. It has been a lousy performer, toasting VERY unevenly. And it's just about impossible to know what setting to use if you use a variety of breads. The toaster responds differently to just about every kind of bread I've used. And not only that, it has responded differently to the same kind of bread from different loaves. The bagel setting, which was a big attraction for me, is a bummer. It would toast the cut side, albeit unevenly, but the other side which is supposed to toast at half power didn't get toasted at all. It merely got warm. And speaking of warm, the toaster sits higher than others you'll find in stores and it puts out a tremendous amount of heat. It scorched the bottom of the cupboard that hangs on the wall above where this toaster sat on my counter. What was once a white cupboard is now a yellowish/brown. I have never had this happen before with a toaster. Why is it so impossible to find a good toaster these days? I've tried several now including the Cuisinart sold on Amazon[.com] (another terrible toaster). I'm suspecting that as soon as a toaster goes electronic it is going to come laden with troubles. I long for the toasters of decades ago that were heavy and solid and reliable, delivering evenly toasted bread time after time. I have finally "settled" for a Phillips toaster that seems to be the least bad of the lot I've tried. If you give Phillips a try, be sure not to set the darkness setting too high when you start out even if you like dark toast. I like brown toast, and it gets that way on the 2 setting (out of 7).

Great Toaster, Reliable and Consistent!,

First, I have to admit that I read some of the other reviews and was shocked by what I saw. It's what made me decide to write a review in the first place. I've found that this toaster is reliable and consistent. I've never had any problems with it burning anything I've toasted, be it a bagel or a slice of bread. It toasts everything evenly and perfectly, every time. If you've ever bought anything from Kitchen Aid, you'll find that, as with most of their products, it lives up to the name. Is it going to revolutionize cooking? No. It's a toaster. But if you're looking to start off the morning with a good piece of toast, a bagel, or an english muffin - perfectly toasted - then this is the toaster for you.

Bad, bad, bad. Uneven toasting, a bagel setting that doesn't work, weird burning around the perimeter of just about every kind of bread. I have other Kitchenaid products and love them (clothes washer, dish washer), but I will be avoiding their countertop products in the future.

I bought this thing from amazon over a year ago, it never worked right. But a least it only caught bread on fire a couple of times. We have gone round and round with Kitchen Aid over getting a replacement. They won't honour the warranty. At the very least Amazon should drop it. RUN!

We've had this toaster for over a year and my family loves it. It toasts consistently. It accommodates all widths. And the digital selector is great!

Okay this toaster is a serious let down for me... this is another one of KitchenAids appliances that I have had a problem with, I buy direct from KitchenAid to avoid problems and what do a get a toaster that does not even make the same kind twice, I could of bought a $10 toaster at my pharmacy and got the same results.
With all the sensors and buttons on this toaster you think it would make decent and consistant toast but I find myself always having to fool around with the buttons! #2 setting should not give me burnt toast! The only good thing about this toaster is the frozen setting - I have had excelent luck with that!

O.K. .... many say I am a perfectionist. Others say I am naive. I believed the reviews that I read that said this toaster made toast that was very well evenly toasted. Several praised it as a near miracle! Don't get me wrong - This is a very good toaster and I am satisfied with it. It is NOT supremely even-toasting. BUT,I would buy it again.

Before purchasing this toaster, I read many reviews on it. Some good, some bad. I purchased the toaster a few months ago despite any bad reviews, and it has been working great!! No problems at all. Bread is toasted evenly and bagels come out great. I would recommend this product. It looks nice and fits well on the counter. No problems here!
