This is a really costly item. I thought KitchenAid was just saying they like their name. I was wrong. They obviously sunk money into the design and production of this stick blender. The battery lasts seemingly forever. Everything seems built to last, unlike a couple of the lower priced KitchenAid brand items I've used.

The docs say you have to remove the battery before changing tips/tools. I put that in my "oh, isn't that a sweet thing to say" box. We leave the battery in... unless it needs charging. (YMMV)

The charger was actually DOA. KitchenAid's support phone was answered without a lot of time listening to music-on-hold. They replaced the entire unit without so much as a raised eyebrow.

KitchenAid Pro-Line series 5-speed Hand Blender

This unique hand blender offers the professional chef and the budding chef the opportunity to take their skill set to the next level. The model I’m demoing has a deep red finish that gives it an ultra modern feel with a futuristic feel. The 12v lithium battery gives this hand mixer the power to chop, blend, mix, whip, whisk, shred, froth, and puree. It’s also easy to recharge the battery by simply plugging it into the recharging base unit. There are light levels on the handle to let you know how much charge you have left as well as picking the speed needed for each task.

There are several attachments that come with the package and they all fit nicely into a case that holds everything. It has a wisk, two removable blending arms, (8” and 13”), three bell blade assemblies that fit onto the arms that froth, puree, and crush ice. The two sizes allow proper blending in deeper pots and pitchers giving you more versatility in the finished product. Each attachment locks into place giving the entire blender added stability.

With 5 speeds you can easily pick the power needed for tasks, low speed for incorporating ingredients with a wish and high for whipping up heavy cream. I tried out the frothing attachment with some ice-cold skim milk and whipped up some light frothy skim foam that was a low fat version of heavy whipped cream.

Clean up is a snap and easy in the sink or top rack of the dishwasher. The added bonuses with this kit are the mixing pitcher and food processor attachment for creating some incredible salsa or guacamole. I created some delicious Pico de Gallo in minutes with a few simple pulses of the blender. It also made some of the easiest gazpacho I’ve ever done for one.

First, I love the carrying case, a bug plus. The battery does not last as long as some reviewers claimed which was dissappointing and really the only reason I didn't give it more stars. Usually I had to recharge after two or three batches of batter. I've only used it to mix crepe batter so I don't know how it does puréeing soups and chunkier foods. It's easy to hold and I like the way the attachments quickly lock on/off. I think I'd need to do more if a variety of chores with it to really give a full review.
