Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description Designed with all-metal construction and a 6-quart capacity, this powerful stand mixer features a 575-watt motor for handling tough mixing jobs. It can effectively mix up to 14 cups of all-purpose flour and produce up to 8 pounds of mashed potatoes. The mixer can also churn through double batches of bread dough with the included burnished PowerKnead spiral hook, which replicates hand kneading with a forceful punching and rolling action. The mixer's 10-speed slide control ranges from a very fast whip to a very slow stir, while its Soft Start mixing function helps minimize ingredient splatter and flour puff with gentle acceleration to the selected speed after start-up. An electronic speed sensor helps maintain a consistent mixing speed, even when adding ingredients. For commercial-style motor protection, the mixer automatically shuts off when overload is detected. The mixer includes a 6-quart-capacity stainless-steel mixing bowl with a contoured handle, as well as a professional wire whip, a burnished flat beater, a spiral dough hook, and a pouring shield. Its multipurpose attachment hub with a hinged hub cover flips open to allow for easy installation of attachments. The unit's professional bowl-lift design raises the bowl into the mixing position, and its solid, truly seamless one-piece motor head design is easy to clean. The mixer features a premium satin-pearl custom finish that adds an elegant shimmer to any countertop. Available in a variety of fashionable colors, the stand mixer measures 14-3/5 by 16-1/2 by 11-2/7 inches

This machine has a lot more power than our older and smaller model. My wife is a serious cook and baker, and this was a Christmas present to her. I was nervous that she would be so attached to the old machine that she would not like it. But that turned out to be wrong!
Plusses: more power; more capacity; all-metal attachments (not painted like the old ones).
Minuses: You have to get used to the stationary mixer/ raise-and-lower bowl design: I don't like the audio frequency put off by the motor.

I purchased a Kitchenaid 600 from "Tuesday Mornings"in Gastonia, NC. When I got home I started wondering why a company which used to have one of the greatest names in mixers would dump their 600's on the market for a mere $299. When I got home I checked out several sites with reviews on the 600. My suspicions were confirmed. Loud gears, oil spewing out of the accessory take off port and finally death of the machine. I had wanted one when I first got into baking bread and found that after the company changed hands the first time they had substituted the metal gears with nylon and the machine would break down very shortly when making any quantity of bread so I bought the Electrolux Assistant which was around $599 at the time, it's a veritable monster at making bread, never even slows down. After reading the many problems people were having with the 600, even with the new metal gears but with the plastic gearbox I was convinced the KitchenAid's of old were never to be again (when they were first introduced they were nearly invincible). Also, stories of incredibly poor service were the icing on the cake. Tuesday Mornings took it back and I'll never consider the KitchenAid again. What a disappointment.

I absolutely love this stand mixer. It's my first and I've been very impressed with how easy it is to use and how well it mixes bread dough!

I got this mixer refurbished as a gift nearly 10 years ago. Mine is a serious workhorse. It'll handle two loaves worth of bread dough, kneading it for me with no mess all over the counter. It whips cream in minutes and makes all kinds of baking a piece of cake. Cleanup is easy. The attachments go in the dishwasher. The bowl is dishwasher safe, but too large to fit in mine so I hand wash it. After years of heavy use mine died a few years ago. We were able to find a repairman not far away who replaced a fuse and it's just as wonderful as before. I love having a heavy duty, reliable and effective tool built to last. My mixer handles anything I ask of it, works as well today as it did the day I got it and I expect years more service from it. The only thing I'd improve is that the beater doesn't touch the bowl, so when I'm doing something like creaming together butter and sugar I have to periodically stop the mixer to scrape the bowl with a spatula. I've seen there are after market beaters with silicone edges to overcome this minor flaw, but haven't tried one yet myself. It's easy to flinch at the price tag of this mixer, but it's 100% worth it if you're a frequent cook or baker. I used to kill a Walmart-special mixer every year or so, just making a few batches of cookies or a cake or two. This mixer has easily paid for itself in the cost of equipment I haven't had to replace and the number of wonderful home-made goods I've made since a good mixer makes it irresistibly easy!

Beware: Paddles will turn grey and leave a grey soot on your hands if they are placed into the dishwasher.
