I have owned 3 of these apple slicers from KitchenAide that I purchased from Amazon. I like them very much. They are sharp and quickly cut an apple while removing the core at the same time. Also, they go in the dishwasher no problem top or bottom rack. However, they only last about 18 months before they break completely through. The begin cracking on the sharp (down) side where the metal is embedded in the plastic.

This apple slicer is great. Very sharp blades that cut through the apple with ease. The handles also make it comfortable to use.

very good for average-size apples,

This slicer does a good job of coring and slicing average size apples. It does take a lot of push to get the slicer through the apple; I usually have to lean my torso over the apple to add extra weight to the push. I have previously owned a different brand whose handles were not all one piece, and it broke very quickly. This one is a better design, and so far it is lasting well. It goes through the dishwasher with no problems. The main problem I've had with this one is that if your apples are large, it doesn't remove all of the core, and if they are jumbo, they are wider than the slicer and you can't use it at all.

Let's say an apple a day. Works great till the plastic breaks. Cost will be about 4.2 cents to 2.6 cents per apple at a 10$ price point. Sweet spot is you get a new one every year and thus the blades stay sharp. If you can live with this, then welcome aboard.

I have tried the same tool by other companies. But Kitchen Aid always delivers quality products. Sturdy and well made. Makes getting your daily fruit requirement quick and easy!

This does what it is supposed to. It is sharp, so be careful.
It is a little tough to clean but make sure you do this right after use. It is much more difficult if the fruit dries on.

Cheap Junk,
This review is from: KitchenAid Professional Fruit Slicer, Red (Kitchen)
I have been through two of these in the last year. The spot welds that hold the cutters together broke on the last one and the plastic broke on the first one. Unfortunatly from what I have seen they all have the same problems. One thing to note both times I was slicing a granny smith apple which tend to be hard, but they are good for cookng. I want one with a warrenty next time.

My kids love apples, but I hated slicing them up! I splurged and bought one of these. I love it! I should have bought one a long time ago. I've had it about 6 months now. It's still working great and I use it on about 4 apples per week. I'v also used it to slice potatoes. I usually put it the dishwasher on the top shelf and it comes out nice and clean. I was leery about doing that at first thinking the blades might get rusty but they haven't. I know it won't last forever but when it breaks, I'm going to buy another one!

We had an Everyday Living apple slicer that was smaller (3-3/8" diameter) and would not fit over our largest diameter apples. This KitchenAid Slicer is larger (4-1/4" diameter) and makes clean cuts a slight pull on the sliced wedge and its free. I recommend this item. I gave it 4 stars because it doesn't finish the cut, you have to pull the wedge free. Nonetheless I would get it again.

I bought it after reading the reviews but I am very disappointed with it.
I couldn't go through even half of an apple with it. One should be very strong indeed to use it to cut through a whole apple. And it is too big to cut my favourite golden delicious apple. The apple was too small for the slicer.. |
