5.0 out of 5 stars works great
First, I get no "rubbery smell" or any offensive odor when cooking in this pan. I use it about once a week, and have for the last 2-3 months.

Second, you do have to spray it lightly with nonstick spray, but when you do the baked goods literally fall out of the pan when you remove them from the oven.

I use this to bake egg/quiche "muffins" (single...

I was very excited to see that several silicone items were being made by kitchen-aid, given their product history. I used to work in the food industry and silicone baking mats were indespensible to us. However, this is NOT the same stuff. As the other reviewer said, it produces a rubbery smell when baking (not appetizing, and not like commercial silicone mats) AND my muffins stuck to the pan like glue. If I have to use nonstick spray to prevent sticking, I'll just use my old metal muffin tin.

Unfortunately I waited til more than 30 days after I purchased it to give it a try, and now I can't even return it. At least it was cheap when I bought it.

If you want some silicone bakeware stick to silpat or matfer baking mats for now. They are great. As for formed bakeware, don't purchase these.

I give the product 2 stars because it makes items in a muffin shape but doesn't live up to product claims of non-stick, and beacause of the icky smell it makes.

First, I get no "rubbery smell" or any offensive odor when cooking in this pan. I use it about once a week, and have for the last 2-3 months.

Second, you do have to spray it lightly with nonstick spray, but when you do the baked goods literally fall out of the pan when you remove them from the oven.

I use this to bake egg/quiche "muffins" (single serving sized of baked egg/veggie/cheese mixture). They stick like glue without the nonstick spray. But with it, you can literally pick up one end of this muffin pan and tip all the baked goods out onto the counter with no sticking at all. Not that you'd want to do that--but you could!

It's great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Bakes nicely but not easy to handle or care for, July 16, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, Red (Kitchen)
Everything I've made in this muffin "pan" has turned out nicely; however, it has not become my favorite for two reasons. First, it's flexible material, the primary selling point, makes it very tricky to maneuver in and out of a hot oven, especially with runny batter in it. Other similar models that include a "sled" seem to be able to address this just fine. But secondly, it doesn't really clean very easily for similar reasons. As you will see, the non-stick cups wipe right off, but the surface area around the cups has a slight orange-peel like texture, and if anything gets on that part and then bakes in place, it is tough to scrub because any pressure applied to the pan makes the pan totally give. Overall I can get it clean enough to reuse, but it quickly looked worn and tired vs. the bright red it started with.

Recommend the idea for those looking for silicone ease in baking; however, pass this one up and buy the pan that comes with a sled.

I also have a silicone cake pan and a silicone bread pan, and they work okay.

3.0 out of 5 stars Cooks evenly - but don't like the burning rubber smell, June 5, 2004

The items cooked in this pan bake very evenly and come out well with cooking spray - the first time I used it, I didn't use cooking spray and I thought the thing was burning up in the oven because of the burning rubber smell. I threw those muffins away - was afraid to eat them! But now I use the cooking spray and just get a whiff of the smell.

1.0 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware.....Saftey???, March 23, 2004
This review is from: KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, Red (Kitchen)
The only way this works is you need to spray before hand alot of non-stick spray otherwise they will never be removed. Also it does need to be placed on a cookie sheet and then put in the oven. Lastly it makes a horrible burning rubber smell as it is cooking. Gave me a headache. This holds the same for all the other kitchenaid silicone bakeware. I have bought the majority as a set and have since regreted the idea. Stick to the old fashioned metal bakeware.

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitchenaid Silicone Bakeware, April 1, 2004

I did not have any problem with this silicone bakeware. It was wonderful. I followed the directions, sprayed lightly, baked, everything was absolutely perfect, and came out of the silicone bakeware like a dream (they advise that you let the food cool completely before trying to remove). Perhaps the people who had a problem getting their food out of the bakeware should review their recipes. Everything I cooked in each of my Kitchenaid silicone wares was fantastic and there was no silicone/plastic smell.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is Great!, February 7, 2005

I love this pan. I have several other pieces and they all work great. Just use a little non-stick spray, no flour. It cooks everything evenly and it gets that perfectly done color. I give it 4 stars instead of 5 because I have the mini-muffin pan with the sleigh, so I didn't get the sleigh with this because I thought it would fit in the mini one, but it doesn't. That is my only complaint. As for the smell, the first time I used any of my silicone bakeware, it did smell kinda like burning rubber. Pretty gross, but it only happened the first time using them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic and worth every penny!, March 31, 2006
This review is from: KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, Red (Kitchen)
I am wondering if they may have changed these recently, since I had none of the problems that some of the older reviews have. I used cooking spray, and I baked the muffins for the same time as I would have in a metal pan. They came out perfectly. I did not even have to let them cool *at all*. I flipped the pan over, and every single one of them literally fell right out!

Also, I had no trouble getting them into the oven. I was ready to put the pan on a cookie sheet, but I found that it wasn't at all necessary. The pan was stiff enough, but you did have to use both hands to put it into the oven, but that was no big deal.

I can't wait to throw out my metal pans!!

2.0 out of 5 stars I sold them at my garage sale., May 22, 2005
This review is from: KitchenAid Silicone 12-Cup Muffin Pan, Red (Kitchen)
Unfortunately, if you have an older gas oven like we do, the temperature of your oven may actually be higher than the temperature at which you set it on the dial. This led to problems determining a safe temperature in which to use the trays. We were all hesitant to eat the muffins I'd made because of the chemical/plastic smell. I'm back to using foil muffin cups on a cookie sheet.

I bought a cheapie silicone 6-cup muffin pan at the local department store. It has a nice slick finish on it and the muffins pop right out.

So, I think, it's a GOOD idea to buy a KitchenAid 12-cup - because after all KA makes great stuff, right? WRONG on this one!

Whoever thought it was a good idea to put a TEXTURED FINISH on this thing needs to think again - the muffins stuck in it just as badly as they stuck in my old metal pans - tried it the second time using nonstick cooking spray and that didn't help either!

Don't bother with this one. Find one with a slick finish!
