4.0 out of 5 stars handy but a bit fragile
This is a really handy way to store butter and use when cooking. I don't even care much about the measurement markings, just the convenience of slicing off chunks of butter with one hand and not having to grab (or dirty) a utensil.

But, it's not all that sturdy. If I break another one I'll be torn whether I should buy yet another. Have to be a bit...

3.0 out of 5 stars Great for portion control, but...
I love this gadget, it helps with portion control. You can slice the thinnest sliver of butter, unfortunately the wire that does the slicing breaks easily. I went through the one it came with as well as the backup in less than a month. Much as I love it, I will not be ordering any more.

That is the reason for 3 stars. If the wire could be made more durable,...

That is the reason for 3 stars. If the wire could be made more durable, it would easily be 5 stars!!!

But, it's not all that sturdy. If I break another one I'll be torn whether I should buy yet another. Have to be a bit careful with it, and maybe avoid slicing really hard butter. I'd happily pay more for a really well made version of this.

I had this product and after many years of use it broke. I searched high and low and when I found it again - I was thrilled! The ButterMate is so handy and works great! You can slice thin layers of butter or thicker ones for your pancakes. Great for baking or just frying an egg. Is one of those little "gadgets" you must have.

We love the way this dispenser works. We have purchased several over the years. Our only complaint is that this gizmo, as nice as it is to use, breaks very quickly, causing us to either replace it or work without it. I would be willing to pay a bit more to get a more durable product.

I love the idea, but I have been through two already. The company needs to find a better (more durable) design. This item has the potential to be the best kitchen gadget ever, but as it is now, I won't be repurchasing.

I use this every day! I love this. No more bowls in the kitchen. No need for a constant parade of butter knives. Plus I love the way it measures. I've bought a lot of kitchen gadgets that were a waste of money, but this one is fabulous! I bought two extras- "just in case"- and I'm going to give this as a gift, when I need a gift, because I love it so much.

3.0 out of 5 stars Would be nice if it didn't break so easily, April 30, 2009
This review is from: KitchenArt 32000 Gourmet ButterMate, White (Kitchen)

Just a month and the wire broke. The slider tab was a little sticky which didn't slide as easy as it should have. It was pretty nice when it worked but the plastic broke where it holds the wire so now its just another piece of plastic from China for the landfill "ugh". It may last longer if you let the butter soften a little but if you let the butter get too soft then put it back in the fridge the butter sticks and it won't slide out easily. Not a big deal but several times I had to take a knife to lift the butter loose. It may be a little too fragile for every day use. I really liked the product I just wish it was made a little more sturdier. If it would have lasted longer I would have given it 4 or 5 stars.

Like others, I too, had this for several years, and it broke. I'm so glad to have found it again! I'm gonna order a couple so I never have to do without it again!!!

I've ordered this product before. This time I ordered four. I only gave away one. The material is plastic and dishwasher safe. The plastic piece that holds the wire slicer broke on my original after years of use. Will not be without one again.

This is my second ButterMate as a spring on the first finally broke after 10+ years. I still kept attaching the cover until I found this on Amazon. The measuring guide on the outside helps with cooking/baking and can be switched between the 2 cube sizes. Unless you need to spread the butter on toast, you will not need to dirty a knife nor will you get crumbs on your butter. Guests love it but may need initial instructions on how to use.
