4.0 out of 5 stars Great Item for Measuring! November 5, 2008
By Lynn
As much as I like to cook, I don't like cluttering up my kitchen with gadgets that don't earn their keep. This one does!
It's very handy for liquids or dry ingredients, having 6 different measuring columns on the sides to measure either dry or liquid ingredients in cups, ounces or ml. The liquids conveniently have that extra grace section at the top so that you don't have to fill to the edge, as you do with the dry ingredients, such as flour. What I especially appreciate it for are the sticky, gooey things like peanut butter, honey, molasses, butter, etc. It's incredibly easy to measure out exactly how much you need; a quick push up from the bottom and the ingredient is completely ejected just where you need it. You can measure as little as 1/8cp or as much as 2 cps. It's easy to clean it afterwards, too.

5.0 out of 5 stars measuring creamy or sticky stuff? May 4, 2008
By Mark
Amazon Verified Purchase
This is great for measuing yogurt, applesauce, molasses, honey and stuff like that. There is no need to use this for normal liquid or dry stuff but when you work with those other things, you can measure accurately and get it all out. I was inspired to buy this watching Alton Brown use either it or a similar product.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not great August 1, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase
It does exactly what you'd think it does. It's actually pretty cool, but so far I haven't actually used it as much as I thought I would. For some reason, I still find a 2-cup measuring cup more useful.

Update:

I've had this for several months now, and I've noticed that even though the item is dishwasher safe and there's no actual damage, water gets trapped inside the plunger-piece and sloshes around after I run it through the dishwasher. Doesn't affect the usability, just kind of annoying to hear it sloshing around.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing February 3, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
I've only used it twice now and the 2nd time I used it the top of the plunger separated completely since it was not glued in properly as I've seen people complain about in other reviews. Naturally this happened just 2 days after the 30 day return policy ended from Amazon. I could understand if I was rough with this or had soaked it for a long time etc. but for it to fall apart this quickly? Come on, I've been very gentle using it and carefully hand washed it. The plunger top just popped off when adjusting it as instructed.

The rest of it seems to made of very sturdy plastic so I was very disappointed that it broke so quickly. I'd give it more stars since when it was working it did what I bought it for, measuring sticky dough and getting it all out of the measuring cup.

2.0 out of 5 stars An adjustable disappointment December 10, 2009
When I first got this, I was very excited. I felt as if I had beat the system by purchasing such a versatile, all-in-one tool.

I used it the first few times and it was just great. It did a great job helping me perfectly level off gooey and semi solid ingredients. Ricotta, honey, and sour cream all were measured out well and easily.

About 2 weeks after having it, I noticed 2 things:

1) the rubber gasket that seals the cup started to curl and warp. It started trapping ingredients and slipping when full like another reviewer mentioned.

2) even worse, the body filled with a little water. This was from hand washing, no dishwasher. No way to remove the water.

After another week or so with the cannister filled with water, the black base popped off. Another reviewer mentioned the same problem.

The concept is great, the execution is poor. I really wanted to love this thing.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bummer... September 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
...As I was pulling the tube off to wash it after the first use, the black plastic disk snapped off. Am afraid to re-glue it as I worry that the glue wouldn't be food-safe. I purchased 4, planning to give 3 as Christmas gifts. Will have to return all of them, I guess. Bummer. Alton Brown uses the yellow one, by a different maker, and I plan to order that one in hope that the plunger part is one-piece (molded) construction.

1.0 out of 5 stars Pretty disappointed August 21, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase
I just purchased this 2 cup Adjust-A-Cup as a Christmas present for myself this past Christmas (Christmas 2008), and would you believe that the black rubber that's supposed to form a seal as you slide the cup up and down has already broken? It has lasted me all of 8 months. I'm going to replace this with the less expensive yellow Wonder Cup which is what I should have bought in the first place. I already had the one cup Wonder Cup and was looking for a larger version. Like a fool, I was wooed by the good looks of the black and silver color combo. I'm pretty disappointed that this one fell apart so quickly.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good idea, but... December 2, 2008
I got one of these after Alton Brown raved about it. I find the outer sleeve tends to slowly, slowly slip down when there are liquid ingredients, resulting in the ingredients oozing or flowing over the device. The other day I wound up with ketchup all over the "adjust-a-cup" as I tried to measure ingredients for a barbecue sauce.

I guess this works with dry ingredients, but then, why would you need it for dry ingredients?

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting measuring cup
You can look down and through sides to see how much you have of whatever it is you are measuring. Not good for Hot food, as it is plastic and a bit hard to hold onto.
