4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty!
This is a very good product and comes very close to "fresh from the kitchen" but breaking the clumps/adding the water to get the right consistency isn't as easy as one would think.

2.0 out of 5 stars Very greasy
I hate writing a bad review just because I don't like the taste of something, because everyone has different tastes. But this rice, in addition to tasting awful, is just soaked in grease. The flavors are all there, but there is a strange, almost soapy aftertaste that overpowers everything else. I don't know what I'm going to do with the other 5 pouches--they will...

I give it 2 stars, rather than 1, only because of ease of preparation.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not bad, but..., June 30, 2008

I just didn't enjoy this product as much as I'd hoped. I'd expected something with a bit more kick I guess. Still good, but not something I'm likely to purchase again.

Wonderful!!You need to know that this is made with a lot of Ginger flavoring. You taste a lot of ginger and then a few seconds after to swallow it, then you taste the spice. It's very unusual, but very good....
I'm so glad that we could find it on Amazon because I was about ready to give you hope of ever finding it again... Thank you Amazon.com for Having the Kitchens of India brands of food!

4.0 out of 5 stars Tasty yet quick, May 29, 2008

It's tasty, fast to cook and a convenient. The only drawback is that it is a little too rich in calories (as a lot of Indian pilafs can be).

I bought 12 of these and everytime I eat them, its awesome. They heat very easily due to the fact they are already prepared. Each box came with one authentic Indian music CD about 60-80 minutes long. I have practically the whole series.

2.0 out of 5 stars Definitely wouldn't buy again, February 25, 2011

I love Kitchens of India and have ordered many of their mixes (esp. the butter chicken curry mix) and ready-to-eat items, but was very disappointed in this one.

There is very little rice compared with the amount of grease and spices (strong taste of pumpkin pie spices like cinnamon and clove) and it just doesn't taste very good. The 8.8 oz package says it is two servings but is really only one serving -- and has TWENTY FOUR GRAMS OF FAT, 10 of them Saturated Fat, and 580 calories. I did enjoy the free Indian music CD, but that comes with their other food items as well. Pass this one up!

I usually like Kitchens of India items but this one is a waste. Perhaps it the difficulty in packaging cooked rice or whatever, but I haven't found anyone with a good (non-frozen, Indian food) rice entree.
Having said that, one package of this is 580 Calories and 50% of your daily recommended saturated fat intake. Its greasy-spicy and I think the only thing I can do with the other 5 packets is to add one packet at a time to a batch of rice in the rice cooker.

I added just a bit of water and heated in microwave. This and the Palak Paneer are wonderful. Just the thing I needed to get my Indian food fix when we don't have a restaurant around!

Provides a tasty alternative to 'boxed" rice products - interesting flavors without the kick of spice that some may be afraid of. Great beginner introduction to Indian cuisine.
