This is one of the cutest things I have bought for my garden Everyone comments on the bright colors. I would recommend this to anyone who loves their garden.I would have given it 5 stars if the tail spun a little better.

3.0 out of 5 stars pretty but doesn't spin well, July 14, 2002
This review is from: Go Fly A Kite 32019 Damsel Fish Windwheel (Lawn & Patio)
Looks lovely, but assembly instructions are atrocious. Be advised that back hub cover pops off for easy assembly, something i discovered only AFTER I jammed little spoke knobs into tight space between hub discs (this will make sense when you try assembly). Tail doesn't spin well.

3.0 out of 5 stars For Those On A Tight Budget, January 24, 2010

If you want a solid durable wind spinner you should be looking for something in the $40 to $55 range; and even these only have a useful life of about 2.5 years (in continuous use).

If you are on a tight budget this Damsel Fish model is a pretty good choice. But ignore the $30 list price propaganda. This is basically a $15 spinner in size and quality. It looks good and the latest models have corrected the most glaring engineering issue; adding a locking wheel hub which corrects the problem others have mentioned about the fins falling off. But it is very lightweight and the stake assembly is inexplicably low gauge; about a third the thickness of a premium spinner.

It is not a particularly complicated assembly but the instructions are a bit vague. The fins are meant to be slightly off-center to better catch the wind, so stagger them-don't line them up vertically; the directions tell you to fit the first fin in the two holes with white dots. Unfortunately there are no "white dots". They just rubbed a little paint off two of the holes, if you treat these two spots as being the white dots you will be well on the way to doing a proper assembly. The other key to proper assembly concerns the ground stakes (rods). They tell you to push them firmly into the designated holes. This is an understatement, you need to push them deep enough that they engage the expandable plastic in each hole which will lock down the rod and keep it from turning and from pulling out. If the rod is loose you have not done it properly and the first good wind will lift the whole spinner off its stake.
