Editorial Reviews

Kite -After her parents' brutal murder, young Sawa is orphaned. Now under the control of her detective guardians, Sawa becomes an assassin whose targets range from alleged rapists to corporate fat cats. Sawa eventually meets another assassin, a boy named Oburi, and they quickly become friends. They provide each other with emotional support, helping Sawa regain control of her own life. When Sawa's guardians learn of her new friend, revenge is sought and Sawa must fight to break free from the cycle of violence. The teenage assassin Sawa discovered the man behind her parents deaths was her own her foster father, the police detective Akai. She murdered him. Years later, her whereabouts are still unknown. Kite Liberator -The story of a new killer has begun to circulate around the city. She is called the Angel of Death. She eliminates her targets with grace and precision, and then vanishes without a trace into the darkness. By day, the Angel of Death wears a different face, the face of Monaka, an ordinary high school girl. But she seems so delicate and sensitive, can it really all be an act? Her past is tied with Akai, and her fate is a duel to the death with the one man who can protect her, the one she loves most. Which heart is real? The icy heart of the Angel of Death, or the kind heart of Monaka?

Remastered and brought together with it's sequel. These two KITE films are short and to the point and the animation is typically quality as most of the Japanese animes are (with a few minor exceptions). Kite is a young woman trained by a police detective to be a murderous assassin for the forces of good. The detective uses her both physically as an assassin and a sex object ( not an an anime for under 16+ audiences). The second one, KITE LIBERATOR, ends rather abruptly and I could swear I've seen a longer version of this anime that ended well for Kite and Japan itself. However the price and quality are both first rate. You won't be disappointed. Another Amazon.com home run here.

I liked Kite Remastered and was looking forward to Kite Liberator. I like most of the artwork, style, mood, and choices the director makes. The action scenes are good and the characters, although not totally fleshed out, are believable. I liked Kite Liberator all the way to the end and then said to myself, is that the ending?! Did the animators run out of money and just say, okay it's finished? Because it didn't seem to be finished. It seems to end just before the climax should start to begin, and several things are left unresolved. This could have been a real classic dramatic animation.

UPDATE 11/27/2012
Watched the show. Dark and grim with definitely adult elements. The first "Kite Remastered" has a much more solid story. "Kite Liberator" seems to have just ended in the middle of the story. Also, it introduced a space virus thing. Which was weird.

MEDIA:
On a day of anime sales I bought both this "Kite Remasterd/Kite Liberator" (their spelling, not mine) and the separate "Kite Remastered" and "Kite Liberator" DVDs. The aforementioned combo is actually the box set of these other two DVDs. All that is different is that the two DVD cases are put into a box sleeve that has different art. All of the DVDs are the "16 and older" rating.
If you plan on getting both, this is the cheaper way.

This is an older movie that would look great if redone for todays times but it still holds up. The action is amazaing and the story is soild. The idea of a female assasin has been done alot but this somehow feels different than all of the rest.
