5.0 out of 5 stars Tony Duhig was a muscial genius, August 19, 2007
This review is from: Kites (Audio CD)
But like so many artisticly gifted never fully understood or appreciated doing his life. Hard to believe that he had to drive a forklift to support his family while composing such wonderful music. Any Jade Warrior CD is a musical experience worth enjoying.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Different World, March 22, 2009
This review is from: Kites (Audio CD)
In a better world this is the music I would hear when I'm shopping, or in the elevator, or maybe just relaxing on my couch on a Sunday afternoon..Now don't equate this with muzak-I just mean that this is both soothing and/or demanding music..You can listen to it while cleaning the house, just let it pass by you without interpretation or you can listen to it and if you put in a little work, it will take you places that you have never been before..This is the Jade Warrior of the Island records era, when owner Chris Blackwell,on Steve Winwood's urging offered them a contract in 1974 in answer to Virgin records success with Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells. It was their 3rd LP for Island and it stood out from the other two previous Island albums because instead of one theme throughout the album it was broken up into two themes-one for each side-(remember vinyl). It's based on Zen Buddhism, very oriental in flavor and musical consruct..This is uplifting and entertaining music

5.0 out of 5 stars Jade Warrior - Island discs remastered -, January 16, 2012
This review is from: Kites (Audio CD)
Among the most neglected bands in history, and during the brief ISLAND record label years, one of the most progressive for their time...

WAVES, FLOATING WORLD, KITES and WAY OF THE SUN..... I used to listen to these 4 albums (the pinnacle of Jade Warrior production) But in the 70's the LP pressings were not ideal, even the expensive imports had noisy grooves. Recently I discovered these unique treasures were remastered by ECLECTIC. They have all the full sound and separation of those originals -- sans snap, crackle and pop. Thank God.

Good liner notes as well.

For the newcomer, here's who they are...

5.0 out of 5 stars let me make something VERY clear, November 15, 2008

Kites perfectly fits the description of an underrated album. Want to know why? Because THIS is one creative album. Do you like a lot of instrumental variety in your music? Do you like your music to sound pretty, while the notes and atmosphere take your mind to faraway places? Do you like early 70's King Crimson albums and the Peter Gabriel-era of Genesis? Do you like classic Santana's guitar style? Do you like a touch of weirdness mixed in with your creativity when listening to an album? Do you like the pleasant vibes of Camel and Caravan?

If the answer is yes to all those questions, you HAVE to buy Kites by Jade Warrior. While listening to the album, it seems every musical passage flows beautifully into other highly enjoyable instrumental themes, and that's exactly what makes this band so underrated. Trust me, if you like the creative 70's rock scene, you NEED to listen to this album. It's absolutely fantastic. Absolutely shocking more people aren't aware of these guys.
