I read this book MANY times as a child. It really prepared me for the daily handling of my now 5 cats. Not the responsibilities of owning one, but the way you should approach & handle a cat. It is so true to life that I even think anyone that wants to get to know cats (child OR adult) should have to read this book first. Although it is written for a very young child, it covers the things about how cats like to be handled in a very true- to- life way.

This book and its companion Puppies Are Like That are written for young children in a readable format that all ages can enjoy. The artist's illustrations are so lifelike and lovable that it is hard not to ah and ooh at every one. The story line tells about the life, habits and foibles of kittens. When I was a kid, I loved this book so much! I made my family read it to me several times a day. Eventually, my first copy of the book became so worn out that my family had to buy me a second copy. I would recommend buying this book for young children.
