Maybe it is the subject matter that threw me here, but I really did not enjoy Kitty Raises Hell. The bad guys from the last book sent something bad after Kitty and she spends the entire book asking for people for help figuring out what it is. 5.0 out of 5 stars Carrie Vaughn Does it Again, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kitty Norville is back in her sixth and most exciting adventure yet, a continuation of her Las Vegas tribulations in Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand. Her temporary defeat of the vampire priestess was just that, a non-permanent solution, and trailing her back to Denver is a fire-creature bent on destroying Kitty and her Pack. She is far from without her share of allies, however - the crew of a paranormal television series backs her up, as well as new-husband Ben and old vampire allies.

This is my favorite Kitty book to date, and I adored how the vampire political intrigue plotlines of the previous books continued through to Raises Hell. The "villain" is one of the best yet, inscrutable and nebulous in motives, as is as Kitty's maybe-ally, Roman, who offers his assistance to the Pack Alpha and Denver's master vampire, Rick.

Better than amazing writing from one of the best writers in the paranormal and urban fantasy genres, this book will blow you away. Perfect marks - don't miss it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitty's Vegas Wedding, when what happens in Vegas doesn't stay in Vegas!, March 18, 2009
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kitty and Vaughn are still going strong, in this reader's opinion. I will agree with other reviewers on reading this one after Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand to catch some of the background nuances and for a proper intro to a couple of interesting new characters Kitty met in Vegas. I do think this chapter of Kitty's life as a werewolf is stronger than ever, the mystery is challenging to solve, the dangers thrilling, and the appearance of new characters mixed with favorites adds variety to the story without taking away from anyone. One thing about the latest Kitty, which I am very grateful for is this: Vaughn continues to focus on the mysteries and problems Kitty encounters in her world, romance is present but not overwhelming. In fact, Kitty's relationship with Ben comes across as very realistic; they have the same issues any other newly wed couple might have and the author seems to be resisting the recent lemming-like charge of other paranormal writers towards more and more romanticized relationships in their urban fantasy series. I, for one, am extremely grateful and I can only say, MORE Kitty and the Show that Isn't afraid of the Dark please!!! And a sincere thank you to Vaughn for staying true to the characters, the gritty reality of Kitty's world I have come to know and love! I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys Jim Butcher's Dresden Files & Charlaine Harris' Sookie Stackhouse series.

5.0 out of 5 stars The follow up to Kitty's trip to Vegas - this one's even better!, March 1, 2009
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
One thing that I really like about Vaughn's Kitty series is that even with Kitty's ability to attract supernatural trouble, the stories about werewolf radio talk show host Kitty Norville have such a reality to them that I'd expect to be able to turn on the radio Friday nights and catch Kitty's show. Kitty Raises Hell continues the story begun in Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand (Kitty Norville, Book 5) - Kitty's attempt to skip over all the wedding planning hassle and head straight to the honeymoon by eloping to Vegas with her mate Ben - if you read the book you know how well that worked out for her.

Kitty Raises Hell picks up right after her return from Sin City and though she's breathing a sigh of relief that she made it back to Denver with her fur intact ... (sorry, even though it's on the back cover blurb, I just have to add my own mangled misquote here) ... not everything that happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. It looks like the feline shifter death cult is out for revenge and they plan on making Kitty pay slowly, by taking out Kitty's pack and every thing that she loves first and then finally Kitty herself.

The real difference between Kitty Raises Hell and the previous book -- and this difference makes this an even better book -- is that in Vegas events just happen to Kitty and Kitty survives because she gets lucky, here Kitty takes charge. With her pack on the line, Kitty exercises her power and uses her resources to not only figure out what she's up against in the mysterious invisible malicious entity who smells of fire, but also to give herself a fighting chance of winning the battle with the vengeful spirit. Kitty picks up some fun new allies in the `ghost hunting' TV show cast who are filming their latest episode on location in Kitty's home town and who finally - be careful what you ask for - get the proof of the supernatural that they've been seeking. Kitty also gets an offer of aid from a mysterious and powerful vampire Roman who asks a very high price for his help. But one of the best parts of the book? I love that Kitty turns to her own show and to the expertise of her listeners to get the information that is so crucial to the fight.

Kitty's adventures are always fun, but Kitty Raises Hell is one heck of a good addition to the series and my favorite Kitty Norville book so far. What's up next for Kitty? Reality TV. Can't wait!

5.0 out of 5 stars Kitty Raises the Bar..., March 17, 2009
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
I loved this book. I didn't just enjoy it, I devoured it. I left "Kitty and The Dead Man's Hand" feeling a little out of sorts. I just didn't think it was quite up to the usual Kitty tale. After reading "Kitty Raises the Bar", I feel like DMH is sort of an intro. In "Kitty Raises Hell", Kitty and Ben are back from their wild experience in Las Vegas. They have injured, but not fully stopped, a strange cult of sorts. Now, the cult has sent something, strange even by Kitty's standards, after everything Kitty loves. Feeling like maybe Kitty can't protect them, tension begins in the pack. There also seems to be some new tension between Kitty and Ben. Add into that mixture, a sci-fi reality show cast who hunts down things that go bump in the night, and we have a full on-heady plot that NEVER slows down. I even got a couple brief vistis with my favorite paranormal main character, Cormac, who seems like he has some things going on as well! (new plot featuring Cormac, yippee!) So, even though I tried to find something negative to balance out my review, I just couldn't do it. This series as a whole, has gone from being one I liked, to one of my top 3 or 4 favorites. I'm sorry we have to wait until 2010 to see "Kitty's House of Horrors", which is my favorite title so far.

2.0 out of 5 stars A Large Step Backwards, January 10, 2010
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Maybe it is the subject matter that threw me here, but I really did not enjoy Kitty Raises Hell. The bad guys from the last book sent something bad after Kitty and she spends the entire book asking for people for help figuring out what it is. There is no character development, just the same old tired cast of people. There is no all encompassing plot that makes me want to read the next installment. The book is just a big ghost hunt and I found myself skipping over sections of repetitive details. I miss the strong adventurous Kitty from the first few books. The married domesticated ask everyone for help Kitty just isn't my cup of tea. That's not to say that the books or horrible or that someone else may not enjoy them, but they have worn out their welcome with me unfortunately and I won't be continuing on.

5.0 out of 5 stars Don't Mess With Kitty, September 14, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kitty Norville is a bad-ass werewolf whether she wants to be or not. Her life has reached a level of such oddity and yet she would never change it. Her past is filled with extremes and her future full of uncertainties that no one can predict, but she is constantly hopeful. Carrie Vaughn is original with a topic of werewolves that has been beaten to death and then tar and feathered. She makes you want to read every word and try to guess just what else will happen to Kitty the werewolf late-night DJ?

5.0 out of 5 stars Better than previous book, September 6, 2011
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
Kitty Raises Hell is book six in the Kitty Norville series by Carrie Vaughn.

After events in Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand (book 5) newlyweds Kitty and Ben are back in Denver, thinking they have left Las Vegas problems behind not knowing that the problems have followed them home.
But when the door of their restaurant is vandalized with the word Tiamet burned on it, they realize things are not over with the feline lycanthrope sect of Las Vegas.
Couple of nights later during a full moon night, the pack is running together when they feel an evil presence and the smell of brimstone. One of the pack members is attacked by a no corporeal entity; thanks to Kitty's prompt reaction nothing serious happens. Kitty doesn't know what is attacking them or how to stop it.
Kitty asks Ricky for help, but he doesn't know what is attacking the pack or how to help her.
A group of known paranormal investigators from a national TV show is coming to Denver to make a show about the most famous haunted places in the city. When Kitty learns about this she thinks whom better than them to help her with her investigation. After contacting them with the excuse of her program they agree to meet her and later on they agree to do a joint TV/radio program. During the recording of the program they are attacked by the same entity of previous nights. Now the paranormal investigators have seen something more real than anything they had experience in any previous investigations, and in the name of research they accept to help Kitty.
But this thing is bigger and meaner than anything and everything they all have seen before and maybe this time Kitty is in way over her head.

I love Kitty Norville series but after reading the previous book, Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand I found myself a little bit dispirited. I even considered to stop reading the series all together, but after some encouraging from some Twitter pals I decided to give it another chance and I'm glad I did it, Kitty Raises Hell restored my faith in Mrs. Vaughn and this series.

Kitty has gone through some difficult times, but those experiences have forged the woman she is now. She is trying to be the best Alpha for her pack, even though sometimes the responsibility of so many lives is a bit overwhelming for her she takes the reins of the situation and looks for solutions. Kitty has grown a lot since first book but still she has a long way to go.

Ben is also changing; he is not the beta male he was; now he is unconsciously embracing his alpha side. He is also Kitty's support and safe haven.

Ben and Kitty's relationship has developed slowly; their love has grown thanks to their day by day interactions. They don't have one of those passionate relationships that steam the pages; they are just good for each other. They made themselves feel safe and complement each other perfectly.

In Kitty Raises Hell we see again characters from previous books and meet other nice and no so nice ones.

One of my favorite supporting characters in this book is Rick. I don't know why but he is one of those characters that make me feel sad for him. I think he cares and admires Kitty and is a real friend to her, but just time would tell if I'm right.

The plot in Kitty Raises Hell was creepy, scary and enjoyable. The story moved at a good pace making it on of those page-turners difficult to put down books.

This is a series with a very complex paranormal world, with all kind of creatures "from the dark" and in this installment Mrs. Vaughn surprises us with even more weird, unexpected and out of the ordinary beings.

I really loved Kitty Raises Hell and plan to continue being faithful to this series. With its more ups than downs Kitty Norville is a good urban fantasy series, I am positive any fan of this genre is sure to enjoy. Kitty Raises Hell is not a stand-alone, I recommend you to read the books in this series in order.

4.0 out of 5 stars A solid Kitty story, December 8, 2010
By
This review is from: Kitty Raises Hell (Kitty Norville, Book 6) (Mass Market Paperback)
We continue Carrie Vaughn's Kitty Norville series with book 6, "Kitty Raises Hell." It picks up with Kitty and new husband Ben back in Denver, after their caper in Las Vegas. They're going on with their lives, when the word "Tiamet" shows up, burned into their restaurant New Moon. Of course, Tiamet is the cult Balthasar and his were-cat buddies were part of in "Kitty and the Dead Man's Hand (Kitty Norville, Book 5)." Their problems in Vegas didn't stay in Vegas.

While running with the pack that full moon, Kitty and her fellow wolves notice a malevolent force. It has the smell of fire and brimstone. One of the wolves is threatened and almost hurt.

In the meantime, a group of paranormal investigators have come to town and Kitty takes an interest. She tags along as the team checks out a suspected haunted house. But the van where Kitty and the trio are set-up outside the house is attacked. They pick up the scent of fire and brimstone, just like during the run. And Kitty realizes she's the target.

Kitty teams up with the paranormal investigators and reaches out to Grant, the mysterious magician she met in Las Vegas. They're all trying to figure out what exactly they're dealing with. To complicate matters further, Roman, an unusual vampire, comes forward, offering to help fight off the threat, in exchange for safe passage in Denver.

There are plenty of twists and turns in the mystery. And we get to know two characters that will make return appearances in later books: Roman and Tina, the psychic.

We also see Kitty and Ben grow stronger as a couple. I can't say they're very exciting together. But at least Kitty feels safe with him. And he's a good guy, his blandness notwithstanding.

I liked it better than the last book. 4 1/2 stars.
