Book Description

July 31, 2012
Kitty has been tapped as the keynote speaker for the First International Conference on Paranatural Studies, taking place in London. The conference brings together scientists, activists, protestors, and supernatural beings from all over the world—and Kitty, Ben, and Cormac are right in the middle of it.

Master vampires from dozens of cities have also gathered in London for a conference of their own. With the help of the Master of London, Kitty gets more of a glimpse into the Long Game—a power struggle among vampires that has been going on for centuries—than she ever has before. In her search for answers, Kitty has the help of some old allies, and meets some new ones, such as Caleb, the alpha werewolf of the British Isles. The conference has also attracted some old enemies, who’ve set their sights on her and her friends.

All the world’s a stage, and Kitty’s just stepped into the spotlight.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for Carrie Vaughn

“Vaughn’s trademark sense of humor continues to distinguish this urban fantasy series, and the seamless integration of a variety of paranormal creatures (including vampires, werewolves, and shape-shifters) in the everyday world is entertaining…readers new to the Kittyverse will also find a fine introduction to this richly populated, fascinating paranormal world.”
—Library Journal on Kitty’s Greatest Hits

“What makes Vaughn’s terrific stories really pop is how she manages to combine outright thrills with an offbeat sense of humor and then mesh it with Kitty’s dogged determination. The result—entertainment exemplified!”
—RT Book Reviews, 4½ stars Top Pick! on Kitty’s Big Trouble

“This refreshing froth of light entertainment avoids werewolf dominance clichés and obvious racial stereotypes in favor of communication, action, and adorable old-married-couple sweetness.”
—Publishers Weekly on Kitty’s Big Trouble

“I relished this book. Enough excitement, astonishment, pathos, and victory to satisfy any reader.”
—Charlaine Harris on Kitty and the Midnight Hour

“The open nature of Kitty's character and the way Vaughn makes her such a likeable character make this the only urban fantasy world where I want to read every book of the series.”

4.0 out of 5 stars I love being inside Kitty's head August 2, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback
I have really enjoyed the Kitty Norville series. All the books have their own storyline yet connect the series with other continuing factors. There has not been one book in the series that I disliked and I am always happy to dive into the next one.

I love being inside Kitty's head as she finds her way out of whatever situation she has found herself in. She has a great way with words and always seems to be the voice of reason. I enjoy the way she answers her callers on her talk show and how she takes care of those out to hurt her and those she loves and protects. Although I miss her pack when she is off in the world I do enjoy the different locations of each book. Carrie is great with world building and making her reader feel a part of the journey.

KITTY STEALS THE SHOW follows Kitty as she attends the International Conference on Paranatural Studies where she is set to be a keynote speaker. There wasn't quite as much action as we have seen in previous books but there is still plenty of suspenseful situations. New allies are found and new enemies revealed. We get to see some previous characters and hang out with some interesting people while finding out more about the world in which the series takes place. Kitty's Keynote speech rocked but was a shocking way to go and was not enjoyed by all.

If your new to the series I think you could jump into the series and be ok but I would recommend starting with book one so you get to know Kitty better and see how much she has evolved and grown. I cant wait to see what happens next.

5.0 out of 5 stars Call to Arms July 31, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
A great Kitty book but not a 'stand-alone' so I'll assume you know the world. Every paranormal type turns up at a London conference - more to see the others than to learn anything new - maybe they should have started with a dance? - (Kitty did not like the gruesome kick-off dinner party the vamps threw.) Kitty connects with LOTS of old friends, resolves some issues with her coming-out, makes lots of new contacts for the coming war and for the first time initiates a battle against Roman's forces (even if her weapons are words). Just to add flavoring, Amelia reconnects with her roots.
This book was like a beautiful part of a tapistry - it wove in characters from the other books (and at least one new set that you KNOW will turn up later) while moving an interesting, self-contained crisis along.(I hate cliff-hangers.)

5.0 out of 5 stars Still A Strong Series! August 5, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
I love Kitty Norville. She may be my favorite character in any of the Urban Fantasy/Paranormal series that I read. She is strong and can get things done but she is also compassionate and caring. Carrie Vaughn is a strong writer and her world building is amazing. Ms Vaughn also doesn't always write things the way you'd expect and some of her twists through this series had me very nervous for the dear characters I have grown attached to. She has never let me down. All the choices she made as to what happens in this world with these characters have made for a fuller, richer reading experience than most of the other series in this market. So many start out strong and loose focus along the way but ten books in, the Kitty stories are just getting stronger.

"Kitty Steals the Show" is definitely a bridge book. This story is filled with revelations about the "long game" we have heard whispers of for awhile now. I feel like we are definitely getting closer to a huge climax in the vampire war. Kitty, Ben and Cormac travel to London in "Kitty Steals the Show". Kitty has been invited to be the keynote speaker at the first paranormal conference. This gives the perfect set up to get a lot of the 'long game' players in one place. Enemies are established and allies are formed. We also visit with several characters we met in previous installments. Reading about Ben meeting Carrie's ex-lover and werepanther. I laughed out loud at that part and even teared up at a couple other parts. That is a sure sign that I love what I am reading!

Oh Cormac! I have such a 'thing' for this guy. I have from the start. I enjoyed his part of this story very much. He is very present and I love seeing him start to come to 'life' in a way.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best in series August 4, 2012
Format:Mass Market Paperback|Amazon Verified Purchase
Some did not find this book to be the up to the quality of Kitty series. As a stand alone book it was weak. Not as much happened, no specific challenge to overcome, as other books in the series. But I found Kitty grew immensely as a character in this book. The culmination of her past tribulations makes her a strong personality, able to stand up to master vampires and perhaps to become one of the leaders of a new paranormal community. The vampires are used to being top predator and don't take to a mere cur of a werewolf speaking up. But Kitty faces them down and challenges their preconceptions.

While no new specific threats arise, many others become clearer. The long Game is revealed, albeit not believed by many. Cormac begins to develop a personality and maybe a life. Which is an interesting twist, since he is doing this through the help of a ghost. Fae become at least minor players and more of Vampire politics is revealed.

If you have followed and enjoyed the series I recommend this book. It fills in some pieces of the puzzle, prepares Kitty for the next stage in her life and overall makes her a stronger more believable character. But if you have not read the series do not start here, you will find the book a bit confusing and perhaps even slow.

I look forward to seeing where the author takes Kitty next.
