Not as well designed as expected,

I have been a Kittywalk fan in the past, previously purchased both the gazebo and carousel. Those are both very well designed but caution, the solid fabric on top deteriorates after much sun exposure. Hence, the recent purchase of the penthouse...I just completed assembling it and was very disappointed with the design and quality. Not nearly as well designed...you will need your thinking cap on to assemble it safely for your cat. The mesh material of the walls and floor is rather thin nylon. The instructions did not include how to attach the door(s?). The "latches" are plastic straps with metal twist type closures that don't operate smoothly and don't look as if they will last long. Fortunately I had additional tent tie rope to complete the assembly since the ties included came up short. Use caution when attaching the hammocks to the frame, they will need to be relocated and very carefully tied. The structure will need to be secured in addition to the braces and bungee cords supplied. The cords tend to pull the braces out of place.
All this aside, I'm sure my cat will love it...he is VERY happy using his kitty houses. (I will be keeping a close eye on him in this until I know all is secure)

I had been looking for something my adopted 3-year-old cat could climb on, and when I found the Kittywalk products I thought it would be awesome to also provide a way for him to get some fresh air. However, this product has been less than perfect.
It was easy enough to build, though not without some frustration. The main problem I ran into is that my cat just seems to be too big to comfortably use the hammocks. Not overweight, he is simply a naturally large cat at about 12 pounds with very long legs. I have owned the penthouse for a couple months now and not once has he ever ventured to climb the hammocks. I have tried placing him on them a few times but he immediately climbs down and appears extremely uncomfortable. Of the four corners on each of the hammocks, two of them are attached merely to the netting on the sides of the penthouse. The slightest downward force on a hammock pulls the netting in significantly. I do not blame my cat for not feeling secure. Also, beware if your cat was formally an outdoor cat allowed to roam free. He or she may spend all their time in the enclosure trying to get out rather than enjoying it. My cat has only recently stopped anxiously pressing his face and paws against the netting. I am not completely dissatisfied with this product because my cat has become more comfortable with it now to the point where he will sit on the bottom and enjoy the fresh air. But the hammocks are still useless to him and I don't anticipate that changing. BOTTOM LINE: Unless you have a average to small sized cat and are willing to spend extra time and money fortifying the hammocks with materials not provided in this kit, pass on this product. That being said, I imagine other Kittywalk products that do not have hammocks would probably work better for my kitty.
