I was researching the best products to buy for leather care before investing in a nice pair of boots.

It is one of the few products that has kept it's quality intact over the years and I love the smell.

This product works great, just be patient.

I am a huge, lifelong fan of Kiwi products. Ever since I picked up a job as a college professor two years ago, I've learned the value of proper shoes and, more importantly, how to maintain and care for them.

Back in my day, which was about a week and a half ago, I received a leather briefcase. Soft sided, it looks pretty retro, much like something Indiana Jones would carry or what Jack Bauer carried in Day Eight. I carried it with my to my art history classes, mostly because that was one of the only classes I had a need for a messenger bag, and also because I wanted to look professor-ish. Needless to say, I was a tad careless with it, and when I started carrying it to my classes on the other side of the bar, the little things that gave it character- scuffs, scratches, what have you-made it painfully obvious that it was in desperate need of a cleaning.

I scoured the internet, and found a ton of remedies. The mass-produced leather cleaners were too pricey (Saddleback Leather Co.'s Leather Milk runs 19.95 before shipping) and homebrew solutions were too strange (using vinegar or Windex to clean leather, anyone?)

And then, like a gift from God, I was buying more Kiwi shoe polish and noticed this large green tin on the same shelf. Clean and nourish, as well as protect smooth leather.....hmmm.....

Sitting in my bathroom floor, towel laid out, with a damp bandana, I put this product to the test. Prepare yourselves, this will take a while.
Leather is a tough material to clean, probably by it's very nature. I found if you apply the soap lather in tight circles, much like shoe polish, it absorbs quicker.

Worked like a charm on my lightly colored Stone Mountain purse! Was a little skeptical at first thinking it might alter the color so I tried it out on a hidden spot first. Worked out well so then I covered the entire bag and it looks great and clean now!

I found Kiwi Saddle Soap to be too harsh on shoes - wears off some of color dye from leather. Fiebings Saddle Soap is so much better.

True test conducted over a two year period:

Experienced the following when applying both products on Tan color, Nubuck Leather Walking Shoes, Addiction by Brooks:

In instance when I applied Kiwi brand, it was soo harsh as to strip off some dye from leather - leather appears aged and further deteriorated after cleaning with this product.

In instance when I applied Fiebings Saddle Soap (available thru Amazon Prime), I was amazed at the difference. The color dye was not adversely affected, leather appears "nurished" or restored and no foaming spray intended to nap-up Nubuck leather was required after cleaning - love the Fiebings Saddle Soap and results!!

    Disclaimer:

You won't find the thin tins for Fiebings Saddle Soap on Amazon, i.e. Kiwi Saddle Soap. A twelve once tin is the smallest size sold and fulfilled by Amazon.

This stuff smells so clean and fresh AND works very well on stubborn marks/stains on a leather car seat. It might take rubbing a little bit, but the marks should come out with this product. I tried other products and nothing else worked. Not sure what the stain was - possibly coffee. And when I opened the car door the next day, the smell was so nice! Very fresh and clean. I am sure this could be used on any leather product - very gentle but effective.

It works, and it works really well. It's been great on all the leather shoes I've ever owned. I used it recently on a leather messenger bag I bought, and it didn't quite work as well on the bag. Different type of leather maybe? It worked well enough, just didn't soak in quite as much as it does with my shoes.

    Good stuff.

I used this to clean a leather messenger bag and it completely messed up the leather. It faded much of the leather and also left wrinkles. It was not a smart move on my part and there are many leather experts (which I've since read) who recommend never to use saddle soap on leather. I'm now having to spend more money trying to save the leather. Don't use this if you're not sure how your leather will react long-term. (I did clean it on a small surface and it looked better until about a week and a half later.) There are other products available that aren't as rough on the leather. I've even had better luck with mink oil, even though some people recommend not using that either.

I spilled coffee on my expensive, pigskin handbag. I was certain the bag was ruined because the coffee stain would not come off. I cleaned it with the saddle soap and the stain is no longer there. Glad I got it shipped it all the way from the US because it was worth it.

I bought this for cleaning my cowhide garden gloves. The get really dirty after a day of yard work and wiping them down or using plain soap and water just didn't get the job done and left my gloves very stiff. This soap cleans well and helps soften the gloves so that when they dry, they are much more pliable. I'm sure it's good for other leather goods, too, but I can only vouch for it cleaning my gloves, which it does great.
