A fantastic and informative read!,
This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
Any fan of Klaus Schulze will be pleased from the beginning. Greg takes you on a tour of Klaus's instruments, then through the albums. A real treat is the interviews with musicians who have worked with Klaus over the years, and some great photographs are included. This book does not dissapoint.

Worth the money and a GREAT book,
This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
I bought this book as a pre-order thru a online music seller. I was very anxious to get it and I was not disappointed when I got it. There is a lot of information packed into this book. Yes, you may already know some of it but there is so much I did not know. I like reading the comments from other artist who have worked with Klaus and I also listen to. I say don't be driven away by a couple of comments putting down the book. You are not going to find another book with as much information. The only other way you might have gotten more information is if you are part of the KS Circle, but the cost of that is ridiculous especially if you live in the USA, the cost doubles because of postage. Thanks Greg for writing the book.

Informative reference,
This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
I purchased this book simply because there are so few reference materials in this form available about Schulze's work.
I was surprised at the comprehensive exploration that the author undertook. Given the depth of this musicians catalogue -it's a tremendous effort to collate and structure this material-let alone listen to Schulze's expansive collection of works. It's a valuable document and review of his recordings with a number of interviews (well worth reading) by his collaborators. It's not only insightful but really serves as an appreciation of this artists work that leaves the reader wanting to explore for themselves the nuances and artistic development that has exemplified the constant searching and refinement that Schulze has undertaken artistically over the last thirty or so years. I felt that given the amount of time and effort the author put into this work it's a reasonable price to pay. Great photos and it's designed simply and clearly. All said, it's a great read and I enjoyed it very much.

It's all about the content for me....,

...and Greg does a great job pulling everything together. It's all here, and for hardcores or for those looking to delve deeper into KS's output, this is a great guide to either reflect on, or learn about, all the music Klaus has released. My eyes aren't what they used to be anyway, so I appreciate the big book and easy to read print. Looks great on the coffee table too. Oh - the interviews are terrific too, one with Arthur Brown in particular is cool. I admit to not reading every word of the whole book yet, but have flipped ahead and see nothing but good stuff to come. I can't wait to read what Steve Roach had to say. So whether you're knocking the dust off some old vinyl and want to read along, or looking for fresh roads to take, this book is a tremendous resource and I highly recommend it.

Author's response,

This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend is a Print On Demand book. As such with short print runs, the cost of the book is higher for that reason. As an example, I, the author of the book generally make about $5 on the $40 book. The photo quality is not what I had hoped but I disagree with the above reviewer in his describing it so poorly. There are color pictures also, which again, increased the cost of the book but Klaus Schulze gave me free run on all his photos on a large DVD and some just had to be color. Color photos are not that common...check out the other music tributes to stars at Borders.
So, let's be fair and you can check my web site at [...] and read numerous authentic reviews from customers, professional reviewers and even Steve Roach, wo was interviewed in the book. For pricing, the book is also on Amazon.co.uk so compare your prices. Every once in a while, there is a half price sale through the publisher, so, if you're interested in that, e-mail me through the web site. Thank you - Greg Allen

A Must Read for all Music Lovers,

This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
If you are a music fan then you have to read this. Once I started, I couldn't put it down. I wasn't a fan of Klaus before reading this book and now I love Klaus. Greg Allen has opened my eyes to a whole new genre of music. This book was truly enlightening. I fully endorse this book.

A Book I go Back to Repeatedly,
By Cosmic Music Fan (Mars) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
I have recently bought some of the 33 1/3 books on albums that I spent $10 on and I read them in an hour kind of like a magazine, but Greg Allen's Klaus Schulze book, which I've owned since it came out, I go back to again and again to look at reviews and interviews. The book was produced with the cooperation of Schulze and has lots of interviews and photos which are a result of his approval. I really enjoyed the schematic drawing of Schulze's classic 70s stage set up. I bought lots of cds as a result of reading the book and it's reviews. If your a Schulze fan I am pretty sure you will be glad you spent $40 for a useful reference book.

Great reference but not an enjoyable read,

I have mixed feelings about the book. I was expecting more of a biography, authorized or not, but it reads like a hallway bulletin board rather than a book. I just put it down every 10 minutes or so because of the divided structure and lack of real depth. It is not something in which I can get lost!
The separate items- the lists of discography and concerts, the interviews, the pages of "factoids", the author reviews of over 30 records, many containing the phrases "some people consider THIS as Klaus Schulze's best work" or "the track starts with a synthesizer drone", the copied web content credited with annoying "http-slash-slash-www-dot-website-dot-com" annotations are, for me, like bricks that somehow build a wall protecting Klaus Schulze from the world instead of pave a path leading to a deeper understanding of him and his music. To be fair, I believe that this is equally due to the subject as much as the author. As a 25-year Schulze listener, I learned from the book, and I know that I will learn more as I continue to plod and pick at it trying to read it completely. I recommend it only for the die-hard enthusiast. . . with ADD.

Beware the 5-star Amazon review!,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Klaus Schulze: Electronic Music Legend (Paperback)
I bought this book a year ago when it wasn't reviewed. To see people giving it 5 stars and highly recommending it warranted a response-I wish someone had warned me.
As a Klaus Schulze fanatic and this being the only book in print I plopped down $40 for this self-published dreck! I didn't read the entire book because it is unreadable. The bulk of the book involves the author explaining what he heard on way too many Klaus Schulze CDs. To add more filler the text is loaded with long quotes from websites. He also tells us where he bought his CDs at! This is amateur writing on a fascinating subject and nothing can save this book. The book on Klaus Schulze remains to be written. Note: The book has a great cover.

Poor production values but interesting reading,
By sarai "sarai" (MA) - See all my reviews

The book quality was a disappointment for the price. The photo reproduction quality is quite bad and the font and layout are amateurish. For these reasons, the book should be priced at no more than $20-25 and preferably less. However, it will probably soon reach that price at which point it will be worth the price to people other than hardened KS followers like me. The reading, however, is quite fine. This book would have much better been done in the layout and cost style of the "33 1/3" books (see [...] - noting that I have no connection whatever with these books other than buying them on Amazon :) - which often only cost about $10, albeit at one quarter of the physical size, which again would have been appropriate given the simple nature of what is actually contained in this book. I hope that there will indeed be some 33 1/3 volumes on KS in future. My advice: wait for a drastic price drop from the list price before buying this edition.
