Several Problems: Goopy formula, leaky bottles, missing brushes.
on August 1, 2012
I had never heard of Kleancolor before I purchased this set, but for the price I was willing to give them a try. I love matte nail lacquers in bright colors. The hard candy-coated look is one that I can't get enough of, so I was very excited to try the colors in this package.
When it arrived, it was packaged fairly well and none of the bottles were broken, but the blue lacquer had somehow ... leaked? Oozed? Whatever it did, there was mostly-dry tacky blue polish all down the side of the bottle that I had to clean off with nail polish remover. So apparently at least one of the bottles was not sealed well.
Most of the colors in this collection are adequately represented in the picture EXCEPT the 'purple', which in actuality is kind of a neon fuchsia/dark pink color. It doesn't look purple at all.
I cannot speak for the yellow lacquer and how it looks because there was no brush in my bottle of yellow. There was a cap, and there was a stem under the cap where a brush was supposed to go, but there was simply no brush at all.
The formula itself is difficult to control when you put it on. For the most part, it is thick and a little tacky. I haven't tried any nail polish thinner on it because frankly it seems like more trouble than it was worth. The colors are vibrant and show up 'okay' with one coat, but I've noticed that the polish goes on in a very uneven fashion, such that if you only do one coat on your nails you wind up with thin patches where the nail shows through. The polish looks great with two coats, though - if you can manage to get two coats onto your fingers without the lacquer balling up, getting spiky, or glooping to one side.
So - the colors look great, provided:
- there is even a brush in the bottle.
- you have the patience to smear two coats of the tacky stuff onto your nails.
- you don't have your heart set on actual purple nail polish.
I'm hesitant to write off an entire brand because of one relatively poor experience, so for the price I would probably give Kleancolor another shot and see if the next set doesn't have so many problems. But if the quality of the set that I purchased were to persist through a second purchase, I would no longer buy Kleancolor lacquers.
