I just used iKlear on my new 30" Dell LCD. I thought I was doing the right thing by not using glass cleaner on my new beautiful LCD.

I sprayed iKlear onto a moist cotton towel and applied it. This was a big mistake because iklear did not apply evenly on my screen and left what appeared to be vertical stains. I tried using warm water and a clean cotton...

There are a lot of people who give rave reviews to Klear Screen's products. However, if you look carefully, you'll note that a very large number of them are consumers who don't have a lot of experience or knowledge about cleaning LCD screens. The product seems great, but that's because they don't have a lot to compare it to, nor do they necessarily know what to look for. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to knock them in any way - but if a regular guy says that a particular house looks like it's in great shape, and a professional inspector says a particular house looks like it's in great shape - they mean two very different things.

So, here's the skinny on Klear Screen products (primarily as it applies to LCD panels, not housings, iPods, or other stuff): If you have a surface that's already clean, but perhaps a bit dusty, Klear Screen will make it look shiny as new. However, if the surface is soiled in any significant way, it's not going to do a damned thing. What do I mean by soiled? Well, the primary example as it applies to LCD panels, will be fingerprints. Fingerprints are oil-based, and Klear Screen doesn't do the slightest thing about it. You can use half the bottle and rub to your heart's content, and it won't have changed in the slightest. Now, if you've got fingerprints on shiny plastic that would have come off anyway had you wiped with a tissue, then it might come off - but that's the cloth rubbing and an easy surface causing that to happen - not Klear Screen. Or if you're using a microfiber cloth that would have made a dent in an oily fingerprint even if used dry, you also might see some result - but again, it's not Klear Screen.

The only thing it seems to be good for is giving the surface a static resistant treatment, which helps reduce how much dust is attracted to it. But that's it. Now, given how much LCD panels attract dust, that's still no small thing - but it would be better off marketed as an anti-static treatment, not a cleaner.

If you want to actually *clean* your LCD panel, as opposed to removing dust and giving it an anti-static treatment, you'll be far better off using a 50/50 solution of quality isopropyl alcohol and distilled water, applied with a very soft, very clean, lint-free cloth - and buffed with a dry version of the same.

If you do choose to use Klear Screen for dusting and anti-static treatment - as a tip, don't bother with the Kleen Kloths; they're a complete waste of money. I suppose you could use them for the wetting stage, but if you use them for the buffing stage, you'll end up with smears all over your panel. Use their microfiber cloth instead. You'll still have to fight to not end up with smears or swirls, but it will be exponentially easier.

Oh, and I don't know what braindead twit wrote the instructions, but under no circumstances should you follow their advice and spray directly on your monitor! Not only will this get the chemical airborne and get it on all sorts of things you don't want it on (remember that it does not evaporate, but dries to a solid!), but more importantly, if you allow ANY fluid to drip below and behind the bezel of your monitor, you run the risk of permanently ruining your monitor. Always spray onto a cloth and use the cloth to wipe the screen wet.

I tried using warm water and a clean cotton towel to remove the stains, but they would not come off..I thought I had ruined my new LCD...

Then, I carefully read the instructions and tried again. This time I used a new clean optical cleaning cloth, the type given to you at the optometrist. I applied the iklear onto the softest side of the cloth and then rubbed it onto the screen. Then I followed up by drying with a cotton cloth. The stains created from my first attempt were gone! The display looks great.

Up until I bought iKlear, I've been cleaning my LCDs with some warm water on a 100% cotton cloth (NEVER ever use paper towels) and that has always worked fine. I recommend that method if you don't have a lot of grime on your screens because it doesn't cause any harm.

<br /iKlear is good too. Dell and Apple recommend it so it should be safe. Just becareful to follow its directions.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Beautifully!!, November 12, 2005
This review is from: Klear Screen iKlear iPod, iBook & PowerBook Cleaning Kit (Personal Computers)
I purchased this product for my apple G4 powerbook. It lifts the daily grime beautifully off my computer. I tested it on a friend's powerbook as well. They had the computer for more than a year and it was pretty grimey. This product made it shine like new. I think this item is effective and safe on eletronics. Of course don't be a dork, please follow the instructions, and your common sense. Also to note this is the only product recommended and suggsted for use on any and all apple products. Enjoy!

When I first bought this product I assumed it was just a cleaner. It is actually much more. This product makes my IPod and MacBook dust resistant. It creates a slick surface that dust and dog fur don't attract to. This is great in my house where my dog loses twelve pounds of fur every day.

The iKlear may be used by professionals, but a word of warning to all average citizens: it's hard to use. It cleans very well and produces a like-new appearance, but it's the process that is so dreadfully painful. Even with the directions, it is still difficult to produce the expected result in a relatively short amount of time.

If you want a perfectly safe tool to clean your computer, this is the product for you. Just make sure you clear your schedule beforehand.

Just like the others... it works beautifully for my LCD's & plasma, and does great on iPods (4G and Nano)... but follow the directions. Otherwise you'll have streaks and frequently cleanings.

It cleaned my macbook pro and ipod pretty well and even prevented new stains. Although it is kind of expensive, it is well worth the money to protect my machines.

I use this for my iPad, Macbook (both screen, cover, and keyboard) and on my iphone and it works like magic instantly removing all smudges, finger prints, etc. This is a great kit because it comes with the bottle, 2 microfiber cloths, 1 large polishing cloth and a few travel wipes. Excellent product!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Good...Nearly Excellent, October 21, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Klear Screen iKlear iPod, iBook & PowerBook Cleaning Kit (Personal Computers)
The solution dries too quickly on a 17" Mac screen. I always find myself using 2-3 packets until I think the screen is sufficiently free of airborn particles, fingerprints and residue left over from the sole use of polish singles.

The iKlear Cleaning Kit is more than adequate for my needs, although a bit expensive for it's size. With one application, the iKlear solution and the large or travel-size micro-chamois cloth not only cleans, but indeed polishes both the screen and entire notebook casing.

I would purchase this product again.
