3.0 out of 5 stars Amazon.com Paper Towel Values
Because I am insane, I decided to break down the actual costs of the paper towels that Amazon.com offers. It is hard to tell because of varying roll lengths, sheet sizes, and case quantities. 5.0 out of 5 stars ENORMOUS QUANTITY OF THE BEST PAPER TOWELS ON THE MARKET & THE SOFTEST TOO!, August 29, 2006
This review is from: Kleenex Viva Towels, Regular Roll, Case Pack, Four 8 Roll Packs (32 Rolls) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Health and Beauty)
IN A NUTSHELL: WHY CAN'T EVERYTHING WE CONSUME BE SO PREDICTABLY USEFUL?

WHY IS "VIVA" SO SPECIAL:

It is true that their are better paper towels for cleaning windows and for some outdoor, shop, and heavy duty cleaning jobs, especially where the towel is moistened with some cleaning agent before use. Bounty is one that comes to mind here, but for kitchen, personal and household uses, "Viva" really is a nearly perfect product.

I have used paper towels for a growing number of applications for a half century, though only in the past ten years did I come to appreciate "Viva Paper Towels". Originally, I bought store brands or promotional products on sale or with coupons as a paper towel was just a quick spill clean-up device. When I had children, I discovered how handy paper towels are at the dinner table for both quick spill clean-ups and as tough little napkins for sticky little hands. That's where the rub was. Most paper towels will clean up spills and even hold together fairly well, but Viva is the only one I have used as a substitute for dinner napkins and facial tissues for all the members of our rather large family. It is very soft, absorbent, durable and strong in all our household applications even after becoming wet or soiled.

VERSATILITY!

It is this versatility that makes Viva so unique. The extreme softness is what puts "Viva" ahead of "Bounty", which is an excellent choice for all the same reasons, but lacks the softness which lends it to more household family uses. The high standards with which it accomplishes all these household tasks is what makes it the best and only paper towel we need.

BOTTOM LINE:

There are very few products we use on a daily basis that are always predictably available, reasonably priced, improve over time and are biodegradable, but "Viva Premium Paper Towels" is one of the few. A roll of "Viva" does last much longer than a "Bargain Brand" and its performance is superior in nearly every way, making "Viva" a terrific value and a lifelong household asset.

3.0 out of 5 stars GREAT for SOME uses, November 27, 2007
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Kleenex Viva Towels, Regular Roll, Case Pack, Four 8 Roll Packs (32 Rolls) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Health and Beauty)
If you love cloth-feeling paper towels, then THESE ARE FOR YOU! The value of these is unbeatable, to be honest. They are thick, absorbent and soft, so they are great paper towels. The only drawback is that you should not use them to clean mirrors, as they WILL leave little white fuzzies behind. That's my only complaint, and why I have switched back to the Bounty select-a-size paper towels.

These are just a matter of preference, really. Probably fantastic if you have babies or kids, because of their softness. And, they DO function very well. If I had more room, I would buy them AND the Bounty, but I currently just stick with Bounty so I don't have to switch back and forth when I want to clean without the fuzzies. :) No hard feelings to Kleenex!

4.0 out of 5 stars Thickest Is The Best, July 20, 2007
This review is from: Kleenex Viva Towels, Regular Roll, Case Pack, Four 8 Roll Packs (32 Rolls) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Health and Beauty)
Everyday we use paper towels to cleanup in the kitchen and the batroom. We also use it to pickup those little messes on the floor. Out of all the brands I've tried, Kleenex really knows what it is about when it comes to really making the best in paper towels. This pack of Viva paper towels is very thick, and really picks up much more than other brands like Bounty and Brawny. Although it is more expensive than other brands, it really deliver the best in value and quality, and you could sometimes re-use it because it is so thick to pickup thicker messes. I absolutely love this brand, it is really worth the money. I just wish there were more sheets to use per roll.

Each roll is individually wrapped within each 8 roll pack. The only negative is that each roll has only 50 sheets (The only reason I did not give 5 stars). I prefer the larger rolls with 90 - 100 sheets per roll. Viva towels are excellent picker uppers and seem to be well made.

Viva towels are the most absorbant towels I have ever used and I won't use anything but them now. The also are so soft I can clean my glasses with them without scratching them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Soft and strong - you get what you pay for, October 8, 2009

Totally baffling why the product description doesn't give you the information you most want:

This is 32 rolls of Viva paper towels, each of which contains 50 one-ply sheets of 11 x 10.4 inches (27.9 x 26.4 centimeters).

Each roll is 39.7 square feet (3.6 meters squared). The 8 rolls per package totals 317.6 square feet (28.8 meters squared).

With the current price, there are about 3 cents per sheet. Seventh Generation is available on Amazon for less than half that (1.3 cents per sheet).

My most recent shipment said that Viva supports the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as before, May 15, 2009
This review is from: Kleenex Viva Towels, Regular Roll, Case Pack, Four 8 Roll Packs (32 Rolls) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Health and Beauty)
The quality of these Viva paper towels has been degrading over the years. I have been using these same paper towels for more than 15 years now and I'm beginning to think about switching to another one. They are starting not to feel like the towels of old days, they feel more like other low grade paper towels. They do not dispense out as nicely as before and do are not as absorbent as in the past. Hope they change it back...

5.0 out of 5 stars Softest and Most Versatile. Happy about the Subscribe and Save!, December 19, 2007

It is almost as strong as Bounty. And after you experience the softness and the versatility, you will not like anything else.
Compared to other products, it is a pamapering experience using it in the kitchen. I have certainly substituted it for dinner napkins at times. If not for its paper towel look, I almost would prefer those than the formal napkins.
I often wet it and use it to wipe my son's face after breakfast and before school. No other facial tissue can do a better job. And no other paper towels are soft enough to be accepted for this task either.
Another interesting thing, when my sister visited and she forgot to bring her facial film, she used this as a subsitute and was quite happy with it.
The store sells them for over $1.5 per roll. I am happy with the subscribe and save price here.

1.0 out of 5 stars Quality is steadily declining, June 16, 2009
This review is from: Kleenex Viva Towels, Regular Roll, Case Pack, Four 8 Roll Packs (32 Rolls) [Amazon Frustration-Free Packaging] (Health and Beauty)
I've used these towels for many years, and absolutely loved them. They were so indispensable around the house that I would actually drive 11 miles just to get them because my smaller rural grocery store didn't carry them.

However, in the last year there's been a sudden steep decline in the quality and they're no longer worth the extra cost - they're now on a par with all the other brands. For years, we used them for everything - including using them instead of tissues because everyone in our very allergic family found they held up to our mighty sneezes and were just as soft as tissues. About eight or nine months ago, we all noticed a big change - thinner, scratchier, more easily broken, less absorbent. Everyone in my family complained, and we immediately stopped using them as tissues, because they HURT. When wet, they tear about twice as easily as they used to before they were cheapened.

Depending on where you get them, there are still some available that are of better quality. But when those are gone, the difference between Viva towels and other towels will also be gone.

For tough jobs, they're still very slightly better than some of the other major brands but they've lost their edge. I don't buy them anymore because they're more expensive than most other brands but not any better.
