I bought this item originally back in 1996 when I was a Telephone and Video technician and have been using since still using for 90%+ of my wiring needs.

When I originally bought the tool I used it for cutting 50 pair cables on down without issue. After I stopped being a tech I continued to use the tool from everything from a wire stripper, wire and rope cutter, pliers (it has a plier head), to even cutting machinist wire, nails, and smaller bolts with it.

After over 11 years of use (6 of which heavy) the spring still has tension and I can still strip wires from 20 to 10 gauge effectively as well as be used with practice to strip coax efficiently. I sort of did in the cutting mechanism so it is not as sharp by cutting bolts and nails with it.. but I can still cut most cables with little effort.

I needed a pair of wire strippers, so I asked my Uncle who has been in the electronics industry for 50 years. He recommended these and Klein in general, and all I can say is wow. Tools aren't made like this anymore. Very sharp, solid, and well made. 10 to 20 gauge, great for most projects, especially at home. Stay away from the auto-strippers, nothing like these....It also has a wire cutter, and a plier tip/head, wonderful little tool.

I bought two of these cutters, one for 12 gauge and one for 14 gauge wire. This handy stripper has a little notch in it which lets you cut the sheath part of NM or romex cable without nicking the conductors. You then just pull off the sheathing. This is great for wiring jobs where you need to strip off lots of sheathing, like panel installations and installing receptacles, switches, ect. No more wasted time with trying to strip off the sheath with a knife, not to mention cut fingers! A must have tool for anyone working with wiring.

I got these wire strippers to do some rewiring at home. Normally I buy cheap-o tools, figuring I can make due the few times they get used. After a dozen times of making due, I decided to pay a little more than the bare minimum. It's incredible the difference it makes!

Pro:
+ Solid, well constructed, easy & painless to use
+ strips wire great. Very little play in the hinge
+ spring between the arms makes it easy to separate the nose again after stripping wire

Con:
- None. These are great!

I will definitely be buying a few rungs up for other hardware I need, if there's any chance of it making as big a difference in ease of use as it did for wire strippers!

Bought these to help with a home theatre install. I used it primarily to strip speaker wire (16 gauge). I have actually used it a few other times around the house and it has worked great. My father has been an electrician for almost 35 years, and he swears by Klein. Now I know why. Great, solid tools at a good price.

Wire stripper works exactly like it should it beats cutting with a knife and trying to twist the wire together it strips it right off and the wire is in tack.

bought the Klein to install home theater speakers connected with 14 gauge wire. i used to have a cheapo pair of strippers that constantly couldn't cut through 12 gauge, and had skinny handles that were very uncomfortable in my hand.

although i haven't tried these with 12 gauge, it worked great for the 14 gauge. felt solid in my hand - comfortable grip with decent tension from the spring. cutting/trimming the copper wire was very easy with this tool. if this lasts as long as some of the other reviewers have said, this was well worth the $15.

This stripper is nothing fancy but it does its job well. I used this on 14-gauge speaker wire when I was setting up my new surround sound system, and it worked great!

This petite stripper is the best in the business. I've given her plenty of work over the years and she's never left me unsatisfied.

I read a review where the reviewer stated that he'd been using a pair Kleins for 15 years, and that pretty much sold me. These wire strippers are tough, sharp, and accurate. I originally thought that $15 was a bit steep for such a simple tool, but it was definitely worth the price. Not only does this thing strip wires quickly and cleanly, it doubles as a pair of pliers. Great tool overall.
