A compilation of the best klezmer band I know,

This CD is a compilation of the band's first albums. Some of the songs have been reproduced and although I prefer the original recording, it's still some of the best klezmer music around. Both their interpretation of popular klezmer songs and their own songs are outstanding.
Jontef is a German band, originating from the lovely university town of Tübingen. It is there that I first saw them perform (early 90's) and I immediately fell in love with their music. The early work used to be only available on tape which they sold at their concerts and in the local falafel shop. They may now be available on CD. If you can get hold of them, they're priceless ! Buy this CD and you're immediately hooked on them!

Klezmer rocks, baby!,

I played this album for someone who was not familiar with Klezmer music, that clarinet-infused mix of emotional Jewish music that is flavored with Eastern European and Mideastern sonorities. He was absolutely captivated. While this is not my favorite of all Klezmer (the Klezmatics) this is pretty darn close. And pretty darned good. If you like Klezmer, this is a must-have.
