I find this CD absolutely amazing and haunting! Genius!,

This review is from: Klezmer Soul (Audio CD)
This CD has grabbed my attention and others in my family with its emotive and haunting presence. I have played it again and again immediately after hearing of my father's passing and the day of his funeral and at other times when wanting to connect with him. This is not necessarily a sad CD but it does help tap into some emotional and sad places and allows me to go there for reflection and remembrance. My college age daughter has also loved this so much that she often plays it at gatherings among her friends. For Jewish people, in particular, it brings some connectedness with the past, with long gone relatives, with Israel, with the Holocaust, with renewal and with family. It should have been a huge best seller.

I just saw Kol Simcha in concert 2 weeks ago in Scottsdale and wanted to get some of their music to listen to at home. I really enjoyed this title but it lacks the jazz components that I found so unique from their live performance. The music on this album is very soothing to listen to and is very different from traditional Klezmer music. I recommend this album very much.

I was cleaning up my CD collection this week, actually to resell some oldies here at Amazon, and came across this one which hadn't been played in a long time. I decided to listen to it again since I didn't remember the music any longer, and was swept away by the mood. This is a great CD, a keeper, and although it's certainly klezmer music, it is not jazzy rambunctious wedding music, nobody's going to dance the hora to this. It's subdued, the wind instruments are beautiful. I'm sorry it was forgotten on the shelf for so long, shame on me. A really great disk, the music gives you something to think about. I like the remarks the other reviewers made, too. Maybe part of the attraction is how it isn't like anything from today's noisy world. It's memory music.
