A true standout collection,
By Zoolha (NJ USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Klezmer Suite (Audio CD)
I just want to second what "a music fan" said in the other review-- this is a great, great album. It's outrageously difficult to describe what it is about some music that hits the mark while others of similar type, and even of similar skill, miss. So I won't try. Just be assured that this particular album is one of the very best in klezmerdom, not to be missed by any fan of the genre.

Klezmer Chamber Music,
By A Customer
This review is from: Klezmer Suite (Audio CD)
Klezmer Suite shows Andy Statman at the height of his powers as an interpreter of traditional Klezmer music. This band was extremely polished, presenting these old Jewish tunes almost as chamber music, but the folk qualities still are there. Statman is just about the only "neo-Klezmer" player who sounds really rooted in the tradition, while constantly expanding it (witness the stuff he did after this record!). Plus the mandolin playing is spectacular, as always. The only thing that bothers me personally is that the drums, while showing great skill, sound too commercial for my taste. Nevertheless, this CD is first rate and should be part of any Klezmer fan's collection.
