UPDATE, AUGUST 2014. This equipment is still working perfectly, but I had a bad experience trying to get replacement parts for another Klimaire unit I installed at the same time. Neither the domestic distributor (Klimaire, Inc.) nor the selling dealer (Heat and Cool) responded to any of my inquiries about replacement parts or locating an authorized dealer. I still have faith in the equipment, but I'll find somebody who can get repair parts for it before I buy another one.

Except for evacuating the refrigerant lines and running the dedicated 115v electrical circuit, I could have done the entire installation myself in an afternoon. My HVAC contractor did everything except the electrical connection in less than two hours. If I should buy another one (but I probably won't because I also had them install a four-zone unit and a two-zone unit to cover my whole house), I'll do the mechanical installation myself and call in the HVAC guys to charge the system and the electrician to wire it up.

When operating, the entire system is very, very quiet. The indoor unit is virtually silent, and I can't hear the outdoor unit from more than a few feet away inside the house. The closest I can come to a negative comment is that the single-zone remote control will not control the indoor units for the Klimaire four-zone system I had installed at the same time.

My installer did not have to contact the Klimaire staff, because everything worked perfectly right out of the box. I am not a Klimaire employee.

Helped a friend install this. Purchase was through a vendor in Florida. Installation was easy. Unit operated good for about 4 months at which time the compressor developed a short to ground. This means that the compressor failed. The company wants over $300 in shipping to replace the compressor. What an outrage. This is not standing behind their product. Hopefully, Amazon warranty would be better, read the fine print. Buyer beware.

UPDATE, 7/8/2015: Well, this unit, the other 12k unit and a Klimaire 9k unit are all still working although they have some quirks. First off, regarding the condensate leaks, they weren't actually leaks, they were overflows caused by manufacturing residue clogging the drain outlet in the inside unit. The residue appeared to be thin layers of Silicon caulk that is used to seal the consendate tray. In one of the 12k units and the 9k unit, this flaked off and jammed itself in the drains, plugging them up and causing the overflows. I scraped it all out clearing the drain lines and no more problems with condensate leaking all over the walls and floors.

These units are saving money on the electric bill but they have some quirks that I don't like. The first is the fact that in the heating mode the lowest temperature you can set is 62F. We use one of these in a Sunroom and 50F would be much better there, just to keep the plants from freezing. Next is the ridiculously long time it takes for the unit to decide it's ready to start heating or cooling and start the compressor. I'm talking up to several minutes - a 100 bux window unit starts cooling withing 10 seconds of turning it on. Finally, it "gets lost" is the best I can describe it. After it's run for a couple of days it can no longer keep the room comfortable and/or decide when to turn off. As soon as I power it down and then back on again, it's fine - I wonder if it runs on a MS operating system!

I'm still generally happy with these units but they could still use some improvements.

*** End of Update ***

When our whole house heat pump died and they quoted us $7,000 to replace the moving parts ($2,000 more than we paid 7 years prior for an entire new installation including the duct work!

I purchase this to cool my garage. It works well. Very Quiet. It was hard to install. I found It hard to bend the larger pipe without Kinking it. I purchased a flaring tool and shortened the pipes but that too was a learning experience. I learned later you can cut these off and solder them just as well. to make it worse you have to suspend the interior unit while tightening the fittings. On tv they would say "don't try this at home." I ended up paying an AC guy to Vacuum out the lines and finish the install. If you want to do it yourself, download the manual, buy a vacuum pump and some ac gauges and a flaring tool OR for about the same price as tools pay a professional to set it up.

I am going to buy another one soon.

They tried to ship via ups,bad idea. The package the outdoor unit came in was falling apart but I opened it before the driver left and had no major damage, just slightly dented. No big deal to me as it's for the shop.It came complete with line set, wrap and wire for between units. As far as operation,it replaced a 12000btu window ac.This unit cools my whole shop nicely when out side temps are in the low 90s.I used a kill-o-watt meter and it ranges from 40watts to 1100watts,usually running about 450watts.The old ac used about 950watts steady,so the mini split seems to be very efficient. It will be interesting to see how the heat works in the cold WI. temps.Suppose to work at outside temps to 5F. so we will see. They raised the price now so maybe they are shipping them truck freight. If they would double box the outside unit,it might survive ups shipping better and keep the price down.Thats why I bought it,because of the low price. One thing I really like is that it is extremely quiet, both inside and out.
