Red Image S3 Headphones

Klipsch Image S3 Red In-Ear Headphones

Let's face it. We all love our iPods, but not when our headphones fall out in the middle of a run. Forget uncomfortable and uncooperative headphones, because while you work out, The Klipsch Image S3 stays in place. These comfortable headphones will keep you in the zone with your music at all times — no interruptions.

The affordable Klipsch Image S3 headphones offer a major boost in sound and comfort over similarly priced competitor models. These passive noise cancelling in-ear headphones deliver dynamic sound and unequaled comfort for a price that’s easy on the wallet. With four color options to choose from (Perfect Pink, Galaxy Green, Rebel Red or Graphite Gray) they look as good as they sound.

Oval Ear Tip

When it comes to comfortable listening, no one beats Klipsch

Comfort

The difference is the oval ear tip
It doesn’t matter how great a pair of headphones sound if they are painful to wear. Unlike traditional, circular-shaped ear tips which don't fit properly in your oval-shaped ear canal, the Image S3 headphone utilizes a patented oval ear tip design making them virtually impossible to feel and perfect for long-term wear. With Klipsch Image S3 headphones, your plane rides, commutes and workouts will be a private and enjoyable experience every time you plug in.

Images S3 Carrying Case

Sound

In addition to unequaled comfort, these exclusive ear tips create a perfect acoustic seal to produce Klipsch's renowned, high-performance sound. The passive noise cancellation provided by the ear tip blocks out more noise than powered competitive noise cancelling headphones. Because we want you to be rocking out to your favorite tunes for a long, long time, the seal also allows you to enjoy your music at lower, safer volumes. The Image S3 comes with a variety of oval ear tip sizes, ensuring you find a fit that's right for you and your listening preferences.

At the heart of every Klipsch product is over 60 years of audio expertise beating strong. Our commitment to no-compromise performance has made us the preferred choice of top cinema operators, a leader in stereo and home theater sound and now a premium name in headphones. The Image S3 employs a customized 5.8mm moving-coil micro speaker with controlled damping in each piece, allowing the product to deliver smooth, full-bodied sound that’s similar to a more expensive balanced armature design.

Durability

Klipsch has gone the extra distance to ensure the durability of each Image model. Subjected to extensive "real world" testing, Klipsch headphones feature enhanced cables and durable strain relief at every connection point to prevent wire damage. In fact, Klipsch Image headphone products endure some of the most rigorous testing in the industry.

Service

Covered by one of the best warranty programs in the industry, with a 2-year replacement policy on all headphone products as opposed to the 1-year offered by many competitors, you can rest assured that your Klipsch headphones will provide years of listening enjoyment. Pic of S3 gray box front

Compatibility

Available in a Graphite Gray, Rebel Red, Perfect Pink, Galaxy Green finish, the Klipsch Image S3 works with virtually any device that has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack. Prepare to plug in and rock out!

The Image S3 employs a customized 5.8mm moving-coil micro speaker with controlled damping in each piece, allowing the product to deliver smooth, full-bodied sound that’s similar to a more expensive balanced armature design. 4.0 out of 5 stars Good, But not Great Heaphones for the Money November 24, 2010
Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
The Klipsch Image S3 headphones are a solid pair of mid priced IEMs. They certainly sound better and are much more comfortable than the stock ear buds that came with my Zune, and they outpace my $20.00 dollar pair Koss headphones. If you're in the market to upgrade your stock ear buds to something more substantial, the S3s will definitely do the trick. However, models like the Shure SE115-K Sound Isolating Earphones with Dynamic Microspeaker II (Black), Ultimate Ears SuperFi 5vi Noise Isolating Earphones w/ Microphone, and even Klipsch's own Klipsch IMAGE S4 In-Ear Enhanced Bass Noise-Isolating Headphones offer a better overall headphone for about $25 more.

The S3s come with a headphone case, and a fit kit with three different sizes of plastic ear pieces. Unfortunately, they don't come with foam ear pieces, which to me give a better seal than their plastic counterparts. But, I was able to get a good seal with the larger version of the ear pieces, and they were quite comfortable. They also allow both sport fit (wrapping the cord around the ear), and traditional fit (the cords hanging down like regular ear buds). After years of using Shure headphones, I was used to the sport fit, but folks coming from IPod headphones may find the traditional fit easier to manage. The cord looks thin and vulnerable to me, but the S3s come with a 2 year warranty.

For headphones, the devil is in the details. I found the S3s to be nicely balanced, with good mids and highs, and good bass response. I like IEMs to accentuate the details of music. They're not quite as punchy as my Shure's, but they do offer pretty solid sound reproduction. I was able to catch the brushes on the drums when listening to Ornette Coleman, and the little pieces of the multi-layered keyboards in Wilco's Summerteeth. I also enjoyed the balanced bass response. I'm not a fan of overpowering bass on headphones. The S3s handled some of the most bass heavy hip hop I had well.

I took these to the gym with me, and they held up fairly well. Using the sport fit, they stayed in place for most of the workout, but they occasionally came loose from around my ear. They don't have an adjustable armature, which limits the amount of movement you can do without the phones coming loose.

The also isolate sound as well as my Shure's. If you have a noisy commute or you travel a lot, these phones will allow you to listen to music without a lot of outside sounds bleeding in. They don't block everything out though. I was able to hear my phone ring at work. You can also crank these and not bother your office mates.

The S3s are a solid pair of headphones, but I would recommend paying a little extra and upgrading to the Shure SE115s or Ultimate Ears 5vi. IEMs are becoming increasingly popular, and the prices keeps going down. For an extra $20.00 or $30.00 you can have a better set of headphones. Shure headphones are also built like a tank. They survived my dog chewing on them about 2 years ago and they haven't skipped a beat.

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh out of the Box and few minutes After.. February 3, 2011
By Prateek
Before I write something about the produce, a bit about my affiliation with sound. I am a guitarist, have performed on stage for small scale events in my country and hence I have done a lot of sound checks, adjustments on consoles etc. Additionally, I am fond of good quality music. But who isn't, right?

So I was trying to find a substitute to my over the head Sony MDR series phones, as they are too heavy to carry around in streets while walking and besides, in Chicago winter, your head is already covered beneath layer(s) of stuff.

I ordered these after researching for about a couple of months. When I received the package, I was excited. I opened the pack (which seemed at least 10 times bigger than what was required to pack them), and connected it to my Laptop right away.

First reaction: Shi! I waisted my money on this!. In audio terms, great mid, shrill type highs and totally third grade lows, and volume levels were lower than what I was expecting.

But I was still hopeful so I thought I should give some exercise to the Diaphragm of the phones and put them through the Burn-in process, which I did, by playing Bassy music for about an hour and a half (or less).

I tried them again...

Second reaction: Money well spent. The Lows were good, not too loud, but balanced. mids were, as usual, good, but I must confess, I think there is an extra bit of balancing required for the highs, which apparently are a bit more than required.

I am not sure about comfort as the plastic buds may fit different ears differently and one out of three sets should fit properly. Go ahead, take em out an experiment. I am sure you will find a comfortable size. Unless you have uniquely shaped ears.

Overall, I am enjoying my music (the one that I recorded with my acoustic guitar) and I would recommend this for anything less than USD 30.00

4 stars because obviously, there are better earphones out there with far more balanced sound and better quality and I personally don't have enough reasons and of course, money, to buy all of them.

Rest of the things seemed good and I like the pouch, although it doesn't have a lot of utility for me personally. At any given day I would choose better sounding earphones vs nice packaging and a pouch. Thankfully, didn't have to make a choice here. A good for money deal!

Just a personal thought : Try twisting'em inside your ear to know which position gets the best sound delivered. I personally like to place them in my ears in such a way that the wire goes over my ears. I think I can get more quality tone then.

4.0 out of 5 stars great for what i paid December 29, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase
Overall, i think these headphones are great. they sound great, have good bass, and are very comfortable. one issue i have: the thin cables transmit a lot of noise, say, when they rub against your sweatshirt. My brother has the image S4s. no doubt, the S4s sound better, but he was really surprised for the value i got for half the price. For half the price i'd say i got at least 7/8 the sound. all that's missing is the clarity that the S4s offer.

When listening to music, I have to turn up the volume of my phone to 9 or 10 to get the same volume that I get with my Shure ECL4 at level 4 or 5.
