LWhether you shred the slopes or pound the pavement, you need headphones that can keep up with you. With a mic to take phone calls, a carrying case with flashlight, and a three-button remote control to easily navigate playlists and calls (even if you're wearing gloves), the Image S5i Rugged is like the MacGyver of headphones. This unique in-ear headphone offers bold styling, highly intelligible phone calls and full music and/or voice control on select Apple products.

Comfort on the Go

Perfect for runners, skaters and other adventure seekers, the Klipsch Image S5i Rugged headphones, with in-line mic and three-button remote, are extremely durable, yet still deliver the same high-quality comfort and sound that has made Klipsch popular. Designed to live with the elements, the Image S5i Rugged has a competitive edge because, unlike other brands, it uses patented oval ear tips for unequaled comfort and a secure fit.

The headphones and remote are moisture tested to offer weather resistance for outdoor activities. The Image S5i Rugged features a unique Apple-based mic and three-button remote system for taking calls and having full music and/or voice control on select iPod and iPhone models. The buttons on the remote are slightly enlarged, making them easy to navigate when on-the-go or wearing gloves.

High-Performance Sound

In addition to unequaled comfort, these exclusive ear tips create a perfect acoustic seal to produce Klipsch's renowned, high-performance sound. The passive noise cancellation provided by the ear tip blocks out more noise than powered competitive noise cancelling headphones. Because we want you to be rocking out to your favorite tunes for a long, long time, the seal also allows you to enjoy your music at lower, safer volumes.

The Image S5i Rugged features powerful dual magnet motor structures allowing for powerful bass and low distortion. These headphones sound amazing, with clear highs and enhanced lows.

Functionality

Available in a black finish with rubber accents, the Image S5i’s audio works with virtually any device that has a standard 3.5mm headphone jack; however, the mic and three-button remote only support select Apple products.

Navigating your favorite playlists with the Image S5i Rugged couldn’t be easier. The plus and minus buttons control volume up and down, while the middle button does the rest of the work. When listening to music press the middle button once to play/pause, twice to track forward and three times to track back. For phone use, just press the middle button once to answer and once to end the call. You can also use the middle button to take advantage of the iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4 and iPad’s voice control feature. Just hold down the button and say your command.

Durability

Klipsch has gone the extra distance to ensure the durability of each Image model. Subjected to extensive real world testing, Klipsch headphones

feature enhanced cables and durable strain relief at every connection point to prevent wire damage. In fact, Klipsch Image headphone products endure some of the most rigorous testing in the industry.

Covered by one of the best warranty programs in the industry, with a 2-year replacement policy on all headphone products as opposed to the 1-year offered by many competitors, you can rest assured that your Klipsch headphones will provide years of listening enjoyment.

Added Frills

Available in a black finish with rubber accents, the Image S5i Rugged comes with three pairs of different-sized patented oval ear tips, clothing clip and a heavy-duty safety case with a built-in flashlight and removable belt clip.

These are worth every single penny you will spend on them!

I feel that the 3 button control is way to heavy and it weighs the headphones down, thus making the earbuds continue to fall out you ears.

I love being able to control the volume/music selection from the in-line remote.

Klipsch is a well-known high-end speaker maker, so I was excited to try one of their headphone products. I'm obsessive about my sound, and I'm always looking forward to trying another high-end product, especially when it's priced fairly reasonably.

In terms of construction quality, the S5i hits the right balance between size, weight and overall quality. The cord seems flexible and strong without looking like it would come apart at the first strong tug. The 3-button control is slightly small for big hands, but the buttons are large and easily operated, even with gloves. The earpieces also seem well constructed, and as an added bonus, the whole thing is water resistant should you get caught in the rain. The included case has a small LED flashlight integrated with it - another nice touch.

As for operation, they worked fine with everything I tried - a few different types of iPods/iPhones, an Android phone and the headphone jack on a few PCs. The volume control and microphone seemed to work on all of these devices, but the third button (play/pause) only worked with my latest iPod Touch. In my opinion, this is a great addition to the iPod Touch...I liked that the older iPods with the wheel controls could be left in your pocket and operated by feel - the Klipsch adds this feature back to newer touchscreen devices.

To me, the number one criteria is sound quality, and while I wouldn't rate the Klipsch as equal to my all time favorites (Shure SE530 - about five times the price of the Klipsch), they are quite good overall while also being very comfortable. The level of sound isolation is good, the headphones feel light in your ears, and they seem comfortable for hours of continued use.

I am a headphone junkie, and the search for the perfect iPhone-controlling pair has added a whole new dimension to my quest for perfection. I looked forward to these for months after they were announced as my s4i's were falling apart. Basically, I understand that headphones in NYC take a beating, but those things were coming apart at every junction...the cable around the earphones is frayed and the headphone jack has exposed wires and I've coveRed it with electrical tape. Amazingly, they were still my favorites, and the mic and controls are top notch so I dealt with it. Also, I hear that the slightest bit if moisture can ruin the mic/buttons.

So, these things would seem to address the durability issue, AND have a better, softer cable (the s4i cable is very stiff and downright plasticy, especially in cold weather). They're about 90% there... The cabling is definitely higher quality, in general ait seems like they are better made. They sound pretty much the same (excellent), but the mic/button controller is now huge. I mean, whereas on the other model it's almost invisible, on this one it's almost as big as a stick of gum. Makes it easy to find and use, but also kind of bulky. I'd love them to split the difference.

Here's my problem with these things... Both the s4i and these have gone bad within weeks of purchasing. And these are the rugged ones! Amazon replaced the others no problem, but these I received as a gift and I had to deal with Klipsh customer service. Pray you never have to do this, because they literally TREAT YOU LIKE A CRIMINAL. I explained to them that they were a gift and I didnn't have the receipt, but also that the mode l itself is only a month old and therefore should definitely be covered under the two year warranty...

Verified Purchase
I bought these headphones because I am an active person who does a lot of biking and running. I fell for the rugged look of the headphones. I will say that if I am not moving the headphones have a very good quality, but the oversized Apple control buttons are much too large, and will only benefit you if you are wearing gloves while snowboarding. The problem with the earphones is that when I do anything remotely active, the apple control is so large it acts like a weighted fishing lure banging against my chest. I tried using the clip it came with to no avail. I tried running with the Apple Control buttons underneath my shirt. This actually worked better, but was still frustratingly large. Do not even try to run with these earphones without a shirt on. You will go crazy. The weighted necklace bangs like a heartbeat all the way into your ears every time you foot hits the pavement. If you are looking for a set of headphones that are for outdoor purposes, you should look elsewhere. This is a gimmick. Since I spend 120 dollars on this product, I expect better.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
This is my first set of Klipsch earbuds, although I have heard good things about them, I have been using Shure brand earbuds. For those of you who have not yet made the jump to 'good' earbuds, it is WELL WORTH IT. The little white Apple brand earbuds are ok, but sound nowhere near as good as a nice pair. Any true music fan should upgrade, in my opinion. I just always stuck with Shure as they had worked previously and figured why temp fate if what Im using works for me. I was pleasantly suprised with the Klipsch. While I received this set as a sample, the retail price is slighly less than the Shure's I have been using.

The sound quality is excellent. Just as good as I have had with my Shure, and just as good as the Bose I have used in the past. They are on par with the 'Good ones'. Wouldnt say they are any better, but definately not worse. One big benefit is that they are slighly less expensive than my Shure, and substantially less than expensive the Bose earbuds. I enjoy bass in my music (I am a bass player after all) and its hard to find earbuds that have good bass, these do. They sound good accross the spectrum, bass to treble, fast to slow.

The iPod/iPhone controls are nice, but I find that I do not use them much. When Im out hiking it is nice not to have to dig out my iPod to jump songs and adjust the volume, but realisticly I dont do that very often anyway. If you do a lot of activities while listening to you iPod, you may find this more useful than I did. I did try the controls on other devices and found it effects different controls, so ONLY BUY THIS IF YOU HAVE APPLE PRODUCTS to use it on, otherwise the controls are useless, but the earbuds still work fine.

Overall I am happy with these.
