Upping the ante in power from the Klipsch RW-10, the RW-12 powered subwoofer produces deeper, stronger, and cleaner bass performance than any other subwoofer in its class. Built with Klipsch's exclusive Corner Port technology, the RW-12 allows the port tube to be as long as possible without bending, minimizing turbulence that can cause port noise and distortion. The corner-shaped flange at the port's internal opening amplifies the benefits of the longer port. This technology also allows the enclosure to be tuned to a lower frequency than would otherwise be possible to create deeper bass from a smaller cabinet.
Because both the driver and the port are at the front of the cabinet, the RW-12 can be placed back against a wall, deep into a corner, or even in custom cabinetry. The result is an installation-friendly design that brings added depth and realism to any music or home theater system. It can be used in a supporting role to full-range speakers, filling in and reinforcing their bottom end, or as the sole bass provider for a system built around small satellite speakers.
The RW-12 has a 12-inch Cerametallic cone driver with a massive motor structure and large, high-temperature voice coil, enabling it to deliver rich, clean, room-rumbling bass all the way down to 20 Hz. It is powered by a high-efficiency BASH amplifier, capable of 825 watts of dynamic output power. Subwoofers called upon to deliver large, short-term peaks of power to be able to support the wide dynamics required by today's digital music and movie formats. Dynamic power indicates the actual power this amplifier will deliver to the woofer under normal operating conditions; this woofer is rated for 340 watts of continuous power by the FTC.
The RW-12's low-pass crossover has a steep 24 dB/octave slope and is outfitted with continuously variable frequency and phase controls, facilitating smooth integration with the main speakers. Input is via line-level RCA jacks or speaker-level binding posts. Alternatively, a single direct-input RCA jack allows connection straight through to the subwoofer amplifier, for use with the crossover built into an A/V preamp or receiver.
