I LOVED IT!,
By Autumn Vaughn "AV" (London, England) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Klone and I (Hardcover)
I read this book years ago when I randomly picked it up in a library and have never forgotten it. It was completely brilliant, totally off the wall. There was just something about it that I loved. I have never read any other Steel books, and from what i understand this was not her usual line of story. But it was such a great read. It must have been to have stuck out in my mind for about 5 years. I reacommend it to anyone who it open to an author not going by their steroetype!

Danielle Steel didn't write this, Her insane Klone did...,
By
This review is from: The Klone and I (Hardcover)
Has Danieele Steel been abducted by aliens or has she been "Kloned" and this insane Klone wrote this book. I actually thought about not finishing this book but I thought there might be a logical ending...Beyond disappointing. Her characters have no substance, I don't want to meet the person who could relate to these whimpy weirdos. This might be the worst book I've ever read.
I just read this book, quite quickly in one afternoon. I think I've pretty much purchased and read every Danielle Steel book she's ever written as they used to be entertaining quick reads. I understand she has become an empire but must she also be a book writing factory. There is never much suprise as to how a DS book will end, the pleasure in reading them comes from the twist and turns, historical and geographical research she puts into her books. This book reads more like a short story as many of her other recent books. Definately not worth the hardcover price, the paperback price or even the used price. Time to slow down and put out some quality work instead of quantity.

Is she kidding?,

This review is from: The Klone and I (Mass Market Paperback)
I've read nearly every one of Danielle Steel's vast collection of novels...and this is "hands down" the VERY WORSE piece of garbage she's ever written. What a joke! It was as if one of Ms Steel's enemies broke into her house and forced her to write this mess!
Don't bother!

Very Repetitive, banal writing,

This review is from: The Klone and I (Mass Market Paperback)
I purchased this item online, thinking it had an amusing premise. I've never read a Danielle Steel before and boy, I must say I was UN-impressed. The Heroine Steph is a limp-noodle divorced heroine with poor-self esteem who blames herself for ruining her marriage because she wears flannel night-gowns and doesn't shave her legs. (Please girl, come out to west coast some time)! The hero, Peter is a scientist who works at some vague bionics firm. When Peter goes away he sends his Klone Paul to keep Steph company, little realizing Paul would jump in the sack with Steph. Predictable antics ensue.Okay, I was prepared to like the Klone and I. But I just couldn't. Steph was whiney, pushed around by her spoiled daughter, who acted like a brat and seemed incapable of taking care of herself (why didn't the older girl babysit the boy, rather than Steph having to hire a sitter all the time?) Paul was a conservative nothing with no personality. The only interesting character was the Klone, however the author wrote this character to be so 'over the top' that he wasn't enjoyable. Example: Typical Klone outfit: leopord skin leotard, silver lamee shirt, lime green pants, and high-heeled boots. In fact, the Klone dresses like a drag-queen half the time. Personally, I ended up finding that more interestign that what the heroine/hero were doing. What I couldn't deal with, was the author's attempts at humor, which I thought was quite sophmoric: Example:the Klone playing charades at a Christmas party spells out 'fart,' the neighbor's dog goes to the bathroom on the lawn, again and again, and this is thought to be so horribly hilarious that it must be mentioned several times.. I don't know.... This was just irritating. Very UN-funny. The heroines insecurities reach record-breaking levels with inner dialog singing just one note: "I loovee Peter....But does Peter....Love me....? I love Paul, but Paul is only a klonnnne....." I wanted to tear my hair out. Overall, a cute idea which was horribly executed and inflicted on the poor readers.

The Klone and I,

I had to see what others thought, that's why I signed on here... This has the be one of the worst books I have read in years... Do hope that there isn't anything seriously wrong with Daniele Steel. I once was a fan of hers and read most of her novels until I found myself bored with the plots and the words became repetitious.... I always laughed when I came across the much used word CHARGRIN... think that's when I switched to other writers for my pleasure... back to this one... I am shocked that it was ever published... if I wasn't laid up with a sprained ankle I am sure I never would have continued to the end of the story, it was that bad...The only saving grace was that I bought the book at a garage sale.. for .50... way, way, overpriced though... my daughter just informed me she is starting a book by Danille Steele... "The Cottage", for her sake I do hope that it is of some value.... as for me, doubt, I would ever try another of her books.

The Klone and I: A High-Tech Love Story,
By Sherry Murphy (Missouri) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Klone and I (Mass Market Paperback)
This was truly the worst book I've ever read. The characters were unbelievable and the story line was absurd. The characters had bad attitudes and I wouldn't even want to know these people. I tried to get into the story line but couldn't draw myself into it because it was so insane. I was also disappointed in the writers repetition of rhetorical questions and inability to move on with the thought process. Just to give you a taste, there was a klone of a perfect mate that was made of wires etc. Steph has great sex with this klone as they do triple and quadruple flips throughout their sexual encounters. Steph thinks she has to make a choice between this wired klone and the real thing. I've read some of Danielle's good work but I can't believe they published this one.

oh dear god,
This review is from: The Klone and I (Mass Market Paperback)
I might as well be honest about my feelings for this book. How can so many people stand reading this (crud) that's passed off as a novel? The Klone and I has a laughable plot and ridiculous characters that I despised and cared nothing about. I really don't get why people spend their time reading trashy romance paperbacks like these when they could be reading REAL love stories, or doing something productive. The only reason I even picked up The Klone and I was to see what it was like; after all I'd never read Danielle Steel before. Now I wish I hadn't bothered.I'll attempt to talk about the plot and characters. Stephanie is a 40-something, sex-starved divorcee with two kids, and despite her pathetic attitude and unhappy divorce, she's fairly well off. It made me want to smack her for being such a helpless ditz. Anyway, she meets a British guy, Peter, who's well-dressed, intelligent, and cares for Stephanie a lot (which I admittedly didn't understand). They have great sex, too. Then, Peter goes off someplace on business, and his genetically engineered clone, Paul, comes by. He looks like Peter, but their personalities are remarkably different. Stephanie, being the idiot she is, falls head over heels in love with Paul. He's handsome, he's funny, he's free-spirited, and the kids love him. And they have great sex. Of course, being a genetically engineered clone with some glitches, he's immature, dresses weird, and has a drinking problem. Stephanie, having no ideas of responsibility or morality (but if you're a Steel fan, you won't care about those things anyway), wanders back and forth between her liaisons with Peter and Paul....until she gets confused about her feelings and knows she must choose between them, but oh, who should she pick? By this point, my eyes were rolling out of my head. Recommended to insipid housewives with hair rollers only.

A welcome departure for Danielle Steele,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Klone and I (Danielle Steel) (Audio Cassette)
Although this book is a little out there, I found it very refreshing. Danielle Steele actually can be extremely funny! I listened to the audio cassette, and found myself laughing out loud. The performance by the reader was excellent, and the overall light tone of the book was a welcome change from Steele's usual repetitive stories. This story is in first person, which is a departure for Steele. She really should write in first person more often because her great sense of humor shines through. I would recommend this story if you are willing to read or listen to something that is a little different.

At last, a real woman for a lead character!,
By A Customer
This review is from: The Klone and I (Hardcover)
I gave up on Ms. Steel long ago, due to the fact that by page three of any of her books, I could predict what would happen down to the last detail. So I quit reading them, and was spared the boredom. However, this book was a gift for Christmas, and when I finally broke down to read it, I was pleasantly surprised that Ms. Steel would allow her main character to have blueberries in her teeth, less than perfecr hair, nails body etc... yes the plot was sci-fi, but I was so delighted to read about a real woman, I didn't care. Plus it was funny, not dull and boring. Encouraged by this book, I went to the library and borrowed some of her newer releases and only to find that, alas, this book was an irregularity in her style.(YAWN!) So again I await the day for fresh writing and less boredom from Ms. Steel.

The Klone and I,
By smartnurse123 (Slidell, LA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Klone and I (Danielle Steel) (Audio Cassette)
A sweet story about a middle-aged woman who becomes divorced after years of marriage and then meets a new man named Peter. The man is handsome, intelligent, wealthy, well-dressed and very conservative. Little did she know that he also had a clone named Paul. As the relationship develops, she meets the clone one day when Peter goes out of town. He sends the clone to her to keep her company and entertain her and the kids. Paul is the total opposite of Peter and creates quite a stir with her friends and family. Although this story sounds silly, it is deep, meaningful and has much to say about finding true love. It is written from a heart-felt perspective that we can all relate to.
