This game is amazing! It's graphics, storyline, and even the sad ending... I juz love it!! It's worth the wait, but I'll definitely buy Klonoa 2 too! The graphics is really amazing... and I played it 7 times! Juz can't imagine what they can come out with in the PS2 machine. I think it's better than Final Fantasy...

Klonoa:Door To Phantomile (The best game ever),

It's been 4 years since I started this game. I have played several others, and I have yet to see one that beats the original Klonoa. First off, The music is WONDERFUL! It defiantly sets the mood of the level, weather it be fun, frightening, or wierd. The characters: Who can forget Klonoa? The jibberish speaking cat! Huepow, the ring spirit, and Klonoa's sidekick, Gadius, the evil...thing, and Lephise, the Diva who sings the song of rebirth (and several others). The graphics: Awesome! Beautiful! Spectacular! Overall: The best Game I've ever played. so what are you waiting for? Lupuloodoo! (Lets Go!)

Klonoa: Door to Phantomile is a must have for any gamer. The first time that i rented a Playstation from a video store, i rented this game with it. I didnt get too far when i rented it, but i liked it so much that i went back to the video store 4 years later and bought it off of them. The graphics are astounding, the gameplay is easy to learn but the difficulty level gets progressively harder as the game goes on. To sum it up, no matter what the price is, buy this game... you wont regret it.-ArrowE

Klonoa came out in 97' and unfortunately, it didnt get the attention it deserved. However for those who have played the game, this is considered a classic platformer. The graphics are off the hook and is very simple yet fun. .... ...wait for Klonoa 2, its definitely a must-have for your PS2 collection.

This game realeased in 1997 (I think), was the first in the Klonoa series (which includles a few more games in Japan), and was defenently a "sleeper-masterpeice" for PSone. This game however feels a little bit different than the other games in this series, though I'm not excatly sure why. I think the main reasons it feels so different are: the graphics, the story line, the music, and the character differnces. Graphicaly wise, you can tell it's older, but the graphics have a certain charm to them. The few out-of-engine motion scenes though, are magnificent! However, the graphic style is drasticaly different from it's sequels. The plot is overall, a little more "classic fantasyish" and feels kinda like something you might read in a book (which is probably what they were aiming at since it has a "book theme"). It has a bit of a melancholy feel to it; which makes it feel slightly more intense than it's sequals. Actually, I think it's the best story of any of the Klonoa games. As for the ending, I loved it! Sad and moving without being overly sad. I think it's my favorite vidoe game ending! The BGM is a different style than Lunatea's Veil also, (It's PS2 sequal) less solemn and RPG like, and a little more lively, or something, not really sure what the word is, it fits the game well. What I mean by character differneces is that it has no familiar characters other than Klonoa and Huepow. Klonoa, however, is quite different than in his sequels. Dispite these differences, the gameplay is practicaly clone-copy of the others in the series, esspecial Lunatea's Veil. From what I have heard, many people that played this were dissapointed with the sequel. I think that it was probably because they were used to this style and didn't give it much of a chance (personaly, I was dissapointed with THIS game at first, then started to really like it after I got used to it). Anyway, bottom line is, that if you've played all the other Klonoa games, expect this one to be a little different, but defenently get it, if you enjoyed the others, you'll enjoy this! If you haven't played any of the other games in this great series, it's based on engaging gameplay with simplistic controls. This game is one of the few "2.5D" games in existance. It plays parellel to a 2D game (people still hanging onto their old copies of Sonic the Hedgehog 2 or Mario Bros. should try this). In this game, however, you are in a 3D environment (don't worry, the paths are clearly defined, you wont have any trouble figuring out where you can and can't go). You can interact with the background by throwing things into it, this is esspecially key in some bosses, This is the 2.5D part. There are 12 levels (not counting the final boss)in this game, plus an unlockable time attack level. This game is pretty easy, and if your looking for an extreamly hard, nail biting, challenge, this probably isn't for you. This is more of a fun, relaxing game. However, I love this game, and recommend it to all who own a Playstation!

I can't really write a short review for this, but here goes:
The story is great, even if a little short The challenge is high for all except the best platformers The graphics are top notch for the era The replay value is kinda slim, but midrange for perfectionists Rating: 8.5/10 A little short but sweet. A truly under-appreciated classic.

Initially when I heard of Klonoa: Door to Phantomile I was researching its PS2 sequel, which was apparently good enough to make it onto a couple top 25 PS2 game lists. Those lists were pretty much the only things that made me give the series a second glance. My curiosity aroused, I decided to get the first game in the series to see where the series came from. Upon playing it I wonder why the series is relatively unknown because it is actually fun. The story is this, you play as Klonoa, a small, childish, furry cat thing with large, wing-like ears and you're goal is to save the day from an evil force that was banished long ago. Apart from the basic story having no originality whatsoever there are a few quirks that do make it stand out slightly. Spoiler alert! For the those obsessed gamers who get angry at spoilers then skip the next 3 lines. It turns out that the world Klonoa lives in is actually some sort of dream or Phantomile and Klonoa was brought to it to prevent an evil entity from unleashing nightmare energy. He was given fake memories to care about the world so he could save it.
Game-play wise it is similar to the old Mario 2D games in movement except that the environment is 3D resulting in some interesting mechanics. Klonoa's special ability comes from his ring that he found in the woods one day and inside it was some bubble creature that became his best friend. On that note the ring allows Klonoa to catch enemies and then either throw them to attack, or jump off them in midair to perform a double jump. Now this game is not without its faults, the combination of 2D and 3D makes it sort of difficult at times to judge the distance of enemies or items. As far as length game length goes don't expect too much. I finished it in about 6 hours and the only reason to replay it might be to unlock the bonuses earned by saving creatures in each level. Also notable is that the game has a VERY childish tone about it as far as art style and difficulty. The game spews cuteness out every orifice and the difficulty curve is slight. While there are some tricky jumps and bosses the challenge is pretty much constant so new gamers might feel like they are accomplishing something. Also the gibberish that passes for communication as well as their squeaky voices might grate on a few people's nerves (not the case with me). Even with the heavily childish tone and possibly irritating voice work the game was decent. It felt nice playing it because I'm about 20 and it brought me back to day when I put in Sonic 2 on my genesis. At the same time playing something so childish sometimes requires breaks to play something more intense. I found myself taking breaks every 2 levels or so to play Team Fortress 2 to let the adult in me assert its authority. Allow me to just skip to the bottom line. If you can afford and track down a copy of your own then I do recommend this game, especially for kids or those new to the gaming scene that are turned off by casual games. Heck, if love cute, fuzzy creatures then this'll be just right.Klonoa
