Product Description

Special Ops / Delta Team tested and approved, the Inertia X Frame "Recon" (Coyote / Sand color) is every soldiers best friend that needs good sleep, but also needs to lighten the load, make space for more magazines, stay warm, rapid set up / take down, ulta durable, and wants to rest well to perform well and stay well tuned for the mission. At 11.1 ounces the multiple award winning Inertia X Frame is the world's lightest, most compact, and most advanced full length camping pad available. Designed with body mapping research, it gives you support and comfort in all the key pressure zones, while eliminating unnecessary material to reduce weight and pack size. Ideal for 3 season use when used by itself, the Inertia X Frame rolls up to the size of a soda can, and takes only a few breaths to inflate. However, it still offers the adjustable comfort through the use of a dry air pump, which allows you to reach higher pressures than ordinary mouth-inflate pads. The cut out regions of the pad not only reduce the pad's bulk and weight, but is the basis for Klymit's patent pending loft pocket technology. Loft pockets allow the insulation on the bottom of sleeping bags to maintain loft and warmth beneath your body, where it would normally be compacted and useless, while promoting breathability. Built with ripstop 30d top and coated 75d bottom, the Inertia X Frame is also one of the toughest pads on the market with a burst pressure of over 10 psi.

I bought this solely for the purpose of saving space in my bag, compared to lugging around a giant awkward foam pad. Not quite as small as a soda can, but not much bigger either. I've used it camping, backpacking, mountaineering, bicycle touring, and on military training missions (combined total around 50-75 nights). It is quick and easy to inflate, easy to pack, has never leaked or had any other issues. Now, I do wake up fairly often either off of the pad (if it is outside the sleeping bag) or with the pad on top of me (if it is inside the sleeping bag), so it's a bit tough to get it to stay put, but it is definitely worth this minor inconvenience. The various tubes and contours allow you to shift around until you find a comfortable position, unlike common flat pads where you just get what you get. It also allows you to work around that pesky rock or acorn that you missed when setting up your tent, a much better solution than cutting a hole in your foam pad!
Bottom line - a little tough to stay on, but well worth it for the comfort and packability, and it holds up well to a lot of use. Highly recommended for on-the-go people!

If you need to save weight on your back and space in your pack then this mattress is for you. This is great for ultralight backpacking. I can also fit the Klymit Cush pillow in the stuff sac and together they weigh about the same as a can of soda and are about the same size. A great combo for hiking. Now I only give this item 5 stars as an ultrlight mattress. If you don't care about weight or size this one is not for you. It works best if you sleep on your back and is narrow. You can sleep on your side and it still feels ok. I have not used it in cold temps but it is not rated for winter. If you need a bigger mattress or plan to sleep on big rocks, get something else. This is great for ultralight use but for car camping it is a waste of money. And yes, I am buying more X Frames for my family to hike with and Therma rests to car camp or winter/short hikes with.

God Bless

I love the light weight and the concept of having "loft pockets" to permit your sleeping bag insulation to expand underneath you and insulate you from the cold ground. I'll never know how the concept will perform for me because two nights spent on it in my living room delivered me with the pad to the retailer, receipt in hand, to get a refund.

At 5'8" and 156 lb. I hoped that this 72" long, 16" wide pad (yes, I measured it, inflated, with a Stanley tape measure ) with its 1.5" thick tubes would caress me. At differing levels of inflation, whether side sleeping, back sleeping or belly sleeping, I couldn't sleep well. The X Frame cut out six of the ten tubes that support my legs and my trunk between my shoulders & hips. On my return to a competing 2.5" thick pad I found that the tubes corresponding to those missing in the X Frame provided support that was essential to my comfort. Fewer tubes supporting the same body weight led to more pressure at the body-to-pad contact points and discomfort for me. I found the pressure on my legs while side sleeping especially irksome.

Back sleepers may find the pad a bit too narrow. My arms wanted to fall off.

Your mileage may vary. I'm happy that some users have found nirvana with this torture tool.

Happy Trails.

I purchased this item for my first motorcycle camping trip. I looked at several other brands but was impressed by the small size of the Klymit brand. It packs up really, really small which was a big plus for me. It's a bit pricey, but the price on Amazon was about $30 cheaper than anywhere else I looked. I don't think I would have purchased it had it not been for this.

We camped for 8 days and it held up very well. It never lost any air at all. I'm 6'4" and weigh about 185 lbs. and the mattress seemed to provide ample enough support for my body. The only problem was that after sleeping on it for several hours, the small of my back would begin to hurt. I tried the mattress in different positions and with different levels of air in it, but nothing seemed to solve the problem. i wound up sleeping on my sides much more that I would like. I couldn't figure out why this happens. If it hadn't been for this problem I would have given it a 5 star rating.

I bought this pad in April for a backpacking trip in June. They changed the design of the pump valve which was disappointing because in the instructions and videos it shows you being able to use their Klymitizer to add insulation. You cannot do that anymore. I take it on the trip it leaks out on the first night in an hour. I slept the rest of my trip on the ground. Call Klymit send the pad in. Two weeks later I receive it back "repaired". It has all these little burn holes in it from where they "repaired" it. It leaks out in about 45 minutes now. I have contacted Klymit and they refuse to replace it.

Bottom line if you buy this pad test it and deal with Amazon because Klymits customer service is non-existent.

I found the mattress sufficient if you only slept on your back, but if you rolled to either side, the concept fails. Also, if you are camping early season, you will find the thermal insulation poor, if the ground is near freezing temperatures. The pad is a little over 1 inch thickness when inflated. Of course, the experience completely depends on the weight of the individual. If you are closer to 100 lbs, you may find this a reasonable pad. I have since replaced this pad with a Thermarest NeoAir. If you are breaking camp and hiking with a full pack for 8 to 10 miles per day, you deserve a comfortable nights sleep.
