Folks,
I know there are some mediochre (or lower) reviews regarding this product, but please understand that there can be mitigating factors that determine how well this product works (which I learned the hard way). This product, in fact, works extremely well!! I have a large house surrounded by woods. Combine that with the intense high temps outside and that can lead to a family of mice dweeling in my house. So hence the tip-trap. Within two weeks we caught 15 mice!! It works as promised!! But here are some things you need to know to make them work as promised: 1) The suggested bait is peanut butter. No need to change from this. However, our first instinct is to load up the bait cap in our excitement to nab the pesky mice! DON'T DO THIS. The tip trap is precisely balanced. A large dose of peanut butter adds too much weight to the trap side and could make the trap tip just from the vibrations of your walking, or even if the mouse is sniffing around it and nudges it. Only put a small glob the size of a Skittle or MM candy. It is VERY aromatic and mice have a very good sense of smell. That will be plenty of peanut butter to do the trick. 2) Mice are skittish and like to hug close to walls when they are out exploring, so keep the trap next to the wall (in their path), with just a hair of separation. You wouldn't want the trap to tip when the mouse was inside, but then get hung on the wall and the mouse escapes. 3) Keep the trap closest to the likely source of their entrance or starting point, probably where you see the mouse droppings. These traps will be most productive overnight when the house is quiet and the mice feel safe to come out. These things do work great! Just so you know, once you catch your mouse it will panic and leave lots of little mouse gifts for you inside of the trap. Rinse them out as soon as you free the mouse so they dont dry and stick inside. No need to get the trap spotless because the scent of the mouse you just let go will encourage other mice because they think it is a safe place to walk. I admit I have not tried any other live-traps than this one, as this was the first that I found when Googled and it works quite well. So while I can give you a very experienced testament to this product's success, I cannot compare to any other. But this one serves very well, so that's all I need anyway!! Enjoy!

I did allot of research on catch and release and it should be said that mice have a homing distance of 1 mile. So if you realease them a couple blocks away there is a 75 percent chance you will see them again.

We bought one of these Kness Tip Traps, thinking it was a cute 'gizmo'. We have caught more than a dozen mice in it, and I am looking for more of them. It sets easily on any hard flat surface (like under the counter). The release is a lot of fun as well, shake the trap a few times and pop the lid and 'cast' the mouse back into the yard. The trap washes up nicely since it is plastic. All in all, great trap, I want more.

OK Mouse Trap,

This mouse trap does work (I used peanut butter). I just want to reiterate what some reviewers have said before - they will get set off with just a slight bump and BE CAREFUL WHEN OPENING! I thought my cat had set mine off as he always does, but behold, there was actually a mouse inside. It startled me so much I dropped the trap and now he's in the apartment hiding out. So please put it in a bump-free area. It will catch your mouse if you use a bait such as peanut butter. Just be careful when opening it - there's no sure way of telling if there is a critter inside. Oh yeah - don't depend on your cat to catch the mouse.

I live in a 1 bedroom apartment and one night realized I had a mouse. Now I wanted to do anything in my power not to use those horrible glue strips or snap traps so I started doing some research. I tried several different homemade live trapping methods and nothing was working so I started looking for actual live mouse traps when I found these. I was so excited to get them they came 6 in a box and the reviews were so great. I figured in such a small space and just 1 mouse no problem. I put all of them out. I even new the route around the walls that the mouse was running by this time. I waited a few nights and nothing. Then all of a sudden I started noticing atleast 1 or 2 traps being closed each night. My mouse was running by them and if it even brushed them they would close. Needless to say I tried this for about 3 weeks and when still no results occured I had to go to a different option. I finally put the snap trap out because it seemed a quicker way than letting it get stuck to glue and still be alive. In 1 night I was mouse free, just not guilt free. With my experience I have to say that these absolutely do not work.

I baited this trap once with a piece of mottzerella and I caught 4 mice without re-baiting it. The best part about this is that I don't have to constantly check it to see if has caught anything. I leave it happily open in my garage, and if it is ever closed, I check it and then take the mouse out to be released. The trap is also nice to release the mice as I can face it away from me and open it with one hand while I stand safely behind.

Looking at the product illustration, it was hard to imagine how - let alone how well - this product would work! Setup is easy and the trap fits in smaller spaces than other plastic humane traps like the green house-shaped "Smart Mouse Trap" or the brown rectangular "Mice Cube". Although it's only a little longer than the cube trap, the narrower shape and the "curve" in the passage of the Tip-Trap prevent a larger mouse from reaching the bait while still being able to back out the open door. As the mouse moves toward the bait, the weight of its body causes the bait end of the trap to tip down, releasing the door on the now-elevated entry side to immediately flip shut. It's subtle and fast - great design. The door can't be worked open again, no matter how the trap tips. Shortly after we set the Tip-Trap, the clever mouse which had previously managed to dine and escape from a brown cube trap was secured for drop-off in the woods.

My wife and I had a mouse in the house and we were looking for a reasonable way to get rid of it. We also have a two year old and a very active 10 month old and we were concerned that a "traditional" snap trap would be very dangerous to have around for our babies. We were reluctant to put out chemicals for the same reason. At last, we found this and believed we'd come across the better mouse trap.
Unfortunately, the trap doesn't work very well. Just walking through the kitchen was often enough to trip the trap, and when we witnessed the mouse sniffing around it tripped before he went in. After a week or so of resetting it frequently and not having any success, we gave up and bought a snap trap, placing it out of the way so the children wouldn't stumble upon it. Within a couple of days, our mousey friend was no more. Not saying this won't work for you, but I wish I hadn't wasted my time and money on it. If you're adverse to killing mice and want them gone it might be worth a shot, but I couldn't recommend it to anyone based on what I saw.

The mouse got in and out on it's own, each time. I don't know how. Trap is too flimsy I guess, or the mouse is too big.

When we realized we had a mouse issue, we knew that we wanted to go the humane route. After researching some options online, the Tip-Trap was one we decided to try.
At first, I was skeptical. It seemed almost too simple and perhaps easy for a mouse to get out of. I also wished that the material was clear so we could see if there was a mouse inside just from comparisons with another product we were trying. However, all our concerns were baseless, as the Tip-Trap worked great. You can't beat a 100% success rate. Every night we put it out, every morning we had a mouse. The way that we could tell was by the weight. This is a very light product and easy to feel the difference when a mouse was inside-even with a baby mouse, which we got. We got big mice and little mice in this trap. It was easy, although be sure to read the instructions. You can set it incorrectly. We spent over $11.00 on another mouse trap and I wish I had just bought a few more Tip-Traps. This is a very economical and humane way of dealing with mice. Fully recommended! |
