I originally purchased this for my son who has a degenerative neuromuscular disease and has weak fine motor skills. He loves Lego's but can't deal with the "small" regular ones. I thought this would give us all an oppurtunity to play together plus make more than just "square" things. He loves it. He can put the bigger pieces together himself, and we help him with the smaller pieces and we make wonderful things. I also purchased the tub that has the 400 pieces to go with it. We've made really neat things and he enjoys it. My 12 year old daughter loves playing with them when my son goes to bed. So I would recommend this over Lego's... don't get me wrong Lego's is still a good toy and they do work with K'Nex just make sure you have the Lego's brand as the generic Lego's won't attach. But this is a good toy for children that have medical issues as long as you supervise the play time. As there is small pieces they could choke on, and possibly get frustrated with because they couldn't put them together etc (My older son doesn't play with these just for that reason. He has the same disorder but gets frustrated easily and doesn't consentrate "sit still" longer than a few seconds. So this toy isn't for those children). But under fun play time it's great! And not many toys can say that for a medically challenged child.

Inferior to Legos,

I really wanted to like these, because Legos and other building blocks can be so expensive and we wanted a little variety. These are OK, but some of the pieces are very small, are more specialized than most blocks (and so limit how creative you can be), and the finished product isn't as interesting-looking. But the worst part is the overall quality of the product. The pieces are very, very hard to put together (require much more force than an average kid can produce) and many of them, due to the high pressure, just separate on their own after a while. A couple of them just popped off all by themselves. This happens repeatedly. My sons are both fairly adept at working with these kinds of blocks, but both of them just got frustrated with these, as their project just kept falling apart while they were trying to construct it.
There are other alternatives, but this is definitely not close to competing with the quality of Legos and other building blocks.

This is a very interesting model set.
Although the pieces are too little, my kids (8 and 6 years old) love it... I just wish there were more models to be constructed... but this is a game that really teaches the kids!!!
