John Powell Hits This Score In Full Stride,

This review is from: Knight & Day (Audio CD)
John Powell's style is unmistakable. When I heard he signed on for Knight And Day I immediately got excited. It's a genre that he's accustomed to. If you recall Mr. & Mrs. Smith you'll remember the tango infused score he did for that film.
With Knight And Day he approaches it with mix of French and hispanic influences. It has a "cool" element to it and it's definitely enhanced by electronics. The score in the film was unfortunately mixed incredibly low in my opinion. Here on CD though the score truly shines. The most interesting part is the incorporation of Mexican guitarists Rodrigo y Gabriela. Easily the most talented guitarists working today. Now, when I say this I am being completely honest. When I got their debut album 4 years ago the first thing I said was "Man, I wish I could introduce these two to John Powell". Their styles were extremely similar, and lo and behold. John Powell having them as featured performers on his score. The music is pretty standard when you look at it as a John Powell score. This is probably a score he could compose in his sleep, and I say that in the most flattering way possible. Percussive action scores are Powell's speciality and this is a truly fun percussive action score. The standout track here is definitely "Bull Run" which has Powell written all over it. Knight And Day is a pretty standard movie with nothing that makes it stand out except for Powell's score. While John Powell doesn't really give us anything new here he does give us an extremely entertaining summer action score in the best way he can. The incorporation of Rodrigo y Gabriela only adds to the greatness.

Noticeable!,

The reviewer before me did quite a great job describing the score. I just want to add that I actually NOTICED it, which is saying a lot for me. I'm one of those people who usually do not notice soundtracks, even the ones people consider great. I do sometimes recognize songs, or try to remember them for later, but it's very rarely that I actually notice INSTRUMENTAL music in movies. I think the ones that come off the top of my head are Amelie, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and this one. And it turns out the latter two are by the same composer, so I might want to pay closer attention to what he does.

What happened to the end-credit track that is noted in the EXTRAS with Tom Cruise and The Blackeyed Peas called "SOMEDAY". I don't see it in the track listing for the CD or MP3 Downloads.

Music from the Volvo chase scene,
By HeavyLee (United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Knight & Day (Audio CD)
For those of you trying to find out what song was playing during the chase scene with Cruise and Diaz in a Volvo after leaving the diner: the artist is called 'Gotan Project' and the song is 'Diferent' from the album 'Lunatico'. I spent hours scouring the web trying to figure it out and I figured I'd save you all the trouble. I wish it was on this soundtrack.

I watched the movie and enjoyed some of the soundtrack. However, what I enjoyed while watching the film didn't seem to show up in the CD.

Hey: What happened to the wonderful theme from the Knight and Day soundtrack also called SOMEDAY? Why hasn't that been released?
I'm feeling ripped off here.

Another "Title Song" left off an OST!!,
This review is from: Knight & Day (Audio CD)
Someone pointed out that the song "Someday" by the Black-Eyed Peas wasn't ON the OST recording! This is odd, considering it is listed AS THE theme song for the movie!! I'm sure this has something to do with licensing issues across labels, and the consumer, as usual, gets screwed! In the movie "Tin Men" there was a GREAT song (Good Thing) by the Fine Young Cannibals, which played during the end credits. However, the song also wasn't on the OST album, and in fact, wasn't actual available for sale for several YEARS after the movie came out, due to licensing issues.
