5.0 out of 5 stars Welfonder's series, 4.5
I really enjoyed getting lost in all of Welfonder's stories in this series. Her characters are Dynamic and will definitely stay with you. Different plots drive all of the stories and there were some extremely memorable scenes. I can't wait till her next one.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not As Great As Devil In A Kilt
I admit that I did not care for this story as much as I did her debut novel.

I found the beginning of the book tedious and slow going at first. There was an intensity between the two main characters but I got tired of waiting for the sparks to fly. It seemed to take to long to get to the meat of the problem between the two of them. Eventually the story picked up and...

5.0 out of 5 stars Welfonder's series, 4.5, June 29, 2005
This review is from: Knight in My Bed (Mass Market Paperback)
I really enjoyed getting lost in all of Welfonder's stories in this series. Her characters are Dynamic and will definitely stay with you. Different plots drive all of the stories and there were some extremely memorable scenes. I can't wait till her next one.

A couple of things were annoying though. For one thing, these hero's thoughts don't stray far from their "Phallus." Which did make for frequent sexual situations, thus one of the reasons we all love the genre, so I'm not so sure I'm complaining. And secondly, I started to "skim" parts of the book (which I NEVER do). It's just that I found myself frequently at points where, for instance, the heroine will say something and then it's 12 paragraphs of anything the hero could possibly be thinking or feeling till he responds to her. Or five paragraphs in the middle of the conversation to describe how the shutters are rattling against the windows! And unfortunately, I'm not exaggerating.

Having said that, I will still buy and devour anything and everything by this author. And would definitely recommend this series to be enjoyed mostly if read in order. Her first book is 1) Devil in a Kilt, then read 2) Bride of the Beast, then 3) Only for a Knight. And The MacLean Trilogy order is: 1) Knight in My Bed, 2) Master of the Highlands, and then 3) Wedding for a Knight.

So you know where my tastes lie: For the absolute best in Highland romance I would recommend Julie Garwood's "The Bride," "The Wedding," "The Secret," "Ransom," and "Saving Grace." Karen Marie Moning, and Marsha Canham. For Medieval: Garwood's "The Prize," "Honor's Splendor," & "Gentle Warrior." Also Amanda Quick's "Mystique," "Desire," & anything by Kinley Macgregor a.k.a. Sherrilyn Kenyon.

I loved this book. The author's descriptions were so vivid I felt as though I could have been there. The chemistry between Donall and Isolde was intense and very believable. I highly recommend this book and the author' s previous release Devil In A Kilt.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great writer..., June 8, 2002
This review is from: Knight in My Bed (Mass Market Paperback)
Sue-Ellen Welfonder knows how to use words and weave pure magic with her pen. Her novels are well researched and historically acurate, and her plots are refreshing. I have personally loved Knight in my Bed as well as Devil in a Kilt. Medieval Scotland is revived and alive with love and passion with her wonderful characters. I strongly suggest any work by this author and I can barely wait for her next book. She is certainly a keeper! Don't miss her.

I loved KNIGHT IN MY BED! Ms. Welfonder does a wonderful job with this story. Ms.Welfonder loads the pages with so much information about medieval Scotland that you know she really puts a lot of work and thought into the background information. The characters are also wonderful. The story moves along at a nice pace. If you enjoy medieval romances this is the book for you. This book has it all, great characters, mystery and passion everything you need for a great read. For another great read get a copy of DEVIL IN A KILT.

5.0 out of 5 stars Knight In My Bed by Sue-Ellen Welfonder, April 12, 2002

This review is from: Knight in My Bed (Mass Market Paperback)
Setting: Scotland 1330 The Isle of Doon

KNIGHT IN MY BED is all about the MacLean and the MacInnes clans and the windswept Isle of Doon. Lady Isolde, the chieftain of the clan MacInnes has got to think of a way to protect her people after the death of her sister Lileas on the fated Lady Rock. They blamed the MacLeans's and wanted revenge, but at the same time, Isolde fears for the safety of her clan against these mighty warriors. Meanwhile, Donall the Bold, chieftain of the MacLeans has been captured with his friend and held in prison in the Castle Dunmuir.

Isolde thinks of offering Donall a special pact and sets about seducing the bonnie man. This is great fun as she is overwhelmed with his manly good looks and well-honed body, but most of his knightly kisses just about bring her to her knees. Imagine Donall chained to your bedside? Hmm, sounds very interesting doesn't it? It's a yummy captor/captive tale. Oh my, yes and yes again. All the while, Donall is thinking of anyway he can to get out of the castle and get back to his brother but at the same time he is becoming under the beauteous Isolde's spell. There is so much going on you can't possibly put the book down.

Talk about sensuality, this book is loaded with it as the contest begins with the renowned warrior and the virgin chieftain as they get to know and crave one another. It sure does stir your blood as well as some other areas. You don't know who is going to succumb first, Donall, Isolde or you, as it is all dangerously seductive. <Grin> The best part is that it is done over a period of time so Donall and Isolde get to know one another and find that trust can be an asset. There is excellent humor as Isolde gets help from Evelina, Doon's own joy woman in the art of seducing Donall with some hilarious results, and Devorgilla of the wee folk who mixes up all kinds of concoctions for Isolde to drink to ward off her attraction to Donall, or so she thinks.

One thing is for certain; you are kept in suspense and the heady arms of seduction as to how it will all turn out as time is running out for Isolde to accomplish her plan to save her clan. This is a must read and darn fine entertainment too.

5.0 out of 5 stars We Love You Sue-Ellen, June 29, 2002

Having read Sue-Ellen's first brilliant book I was counting the days till her next book was published. I wasn't disappointed! Knight is a brilliant book that kept my attention from the first page to the last. Knight in My Bed is a fun romantic read with a mystery added that keeps you on the edge of you seat. I fell in love with Donall. What was there not to like about him? I won't go into detail about the book as it is already well done. But I must say do not start this book unless you have the time to finish it. I highly recommend it.

I admit that I did not care for this story as much as I did her debut novel.

I found the beginning of the book tedious and slow going at first. There was an intensity between the two main characters but I got tired of waiting for the sparks to fly. It seemed to take to long to get to the meat of the problem between the two of them. Eventually the story picked up and the mystery of the death at the Lady Rock was finally solved and there was the thing that you read romance stories for love, romance, loyalty. This is just a person opinion please take it in the spirit it was given. :)
