Not quite as good as the first,

This review is from: Knight of the Realm (Warhammer Bretonnian Knights 2) (Paperback)
This book covering the short career of Calard as a Kinght of the Realm was disappointing only because of its static setting. The majority of the book is a drawn out siege which keeps Calard from performing his duties as a knight back in his own lands. This gives us plenty of battle action, but little of the political action. While I was hoping for more insight into the life of a Knight of the Realm the book was still enthralling and very well written. One other minor problem I had in this book was the believablity of the main character's inclusion in some of the most important events of the siege. The book set up for the next one in the series nicely with interesting new characters and unresolved problems.

Plight of the peasant,

Knight of the realm is a great continuation to the Bretonnian Knights series, by my reckoning the second book is by far much better than the first one. though the characters of Calard and Bertalis are not the best in the warhammer universe, the enemy characters (viking like Norscans) are very interesting and a joy to delve into their chaos infested minds and souls. The novel mostly takes place in a titanic siege with characters going through the monotonous reality of siege warfare ( broken up at times with fascinating siege weaponry, aka prehistoric mammals). This novel is not the best from black library but the Norscan enemies are worth the read, also if you are a Black Library fanatic and/ or Bretonian player do not miss this book, its worth it for you. Alas dont expect the knights to treat the peasants better, they are still autocratic pricks.
