Jackie Ivey is a writer who captures the passion of romance in a book,
By
This review is from: A Knight and White Satin (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
There is love so strong and powerful that it can withstand any pain and suffering brought onto it. This type of love is not always a love match at first but when you have your heart captured by it there is no letting go of it.The heiress, Dallis Caruth was part of the Caruth clan that had been at war with the Dunn-Fadden's since the beginning of time. But now that Payton Dunn-Fadden has conquered her castle there is nothing to stop Payton from claiming the prize he feels he won which includes Dallis. Now Dallis on the other hand is not quite so giddy with love toward Payton and while their wedding night lights up the sky with passion Dallis does not mind that Payton has to be away for awhile to finish his conquering career and hold on to the title of King's Champion. But three years away from his wife was a moment too long and once Payton returns his objective was to beget an heir not fall in love with his very conniving wife. Dallis has worked hard to get away from this marriage she feels is a sham but once Payton returns and the time they spend together does not push them apart but instead draws them closer to one another. Love was the last thing she thought to have with this man but love is indeed what she is feeling along with so much desire it is frightening. Payton has more traveling to do before they settle in their home and he takes Dallis along on the journey. It is one filled with wicked widows, temperamental Kings and jealous suitors all possessing greed and jealousy with a bit of falsehood and lies thrown in for good measure. Dallis fights for the relationship she swore she did not want and does her best under the worst of conditions to keep Payton safe and warmly wrapped up in the arms she is extending out to him.

Another Great Book,
This review is from: A Knight and White Satin (Zebra Historical Romance) (Kindle Edition)
Jackie Ivie's Knight in White Satin is a must read for those that enjoy historical romance. This is one of her best novels to date. It's funny with lots of conflict. Ms. Ivie is an expert with Scot. history and that fact shines through with the feel and ambiance of the time.

The King's Champion Meets His Match.,
By
This review is from: A Knight and White Satin (Zebra Historical Romance) (Mass Market Paperback)
It's a rough start between Payton Dunn-Fadden, the King's Champion, and Dallis Caruth, also known as White Satin, two very hard headed, strong-willed individuals. Payton conquered the Caruth castle, and wedded the lovely heiress in a convenient though clergy-less ceremony. Payton then moved to consummate the marriage, but this doesn't quite happen--she stabs him in the side with her jeweled lady's dagger and her kin arrive just in time to see Payton jump out the window and into the loch. Everyone sees Payton's blood on Dallis, and believes the marriage to have been consummated. So starts Dallis' plans for revenge against her "husband" and her future happy widowhood. Payton's behavior at the start seem to be realistic for the times. Both hero and heroine commit actions they later regret as they live out the consequences of their choices. Love and passion burns between two despite everything they've done to each other. I love the accurate historical details in Jackie Ivie's books.

Dallis Caruth, otherwise known as White Satin, is not happy. She is being forced to marry Payton Dunn-Fadden. He can fight any army and win. They say his powers of seduction are that of legend, but Dallis doesn't want to be seduced. The fact that she finds herself attracted to the man just infuriates her. But Dallis is determined to tame the Scottish Laid to get her freedom. Only her new husband has secrets of his own and they involve the king. Keeping these secrets from his new wife has not been easy, and now that the King is calling in a favor Payton owes him, he must choose between love and duty before it costs them both their lives.A Knight and White Satin by Jackie Ivie is a romantic historical drama. I loved the blending of these elements. Dallis is a woman far beyond her time. She is independent, fierce, and loyal and can fight her own battles. Payton doesn't realize he isn't getting a shrinking violet when they marry, but he soon sees that she isn't going to be kept in the dark while he goes off on the king's missions. Will bringing her in on them cost them both their lives? Payton is a strong Laid and very loyal to his king. He is kind and gentle as well, a perfect hero for Dallis who can use a little gentleness in her life. Together they make an unbeatable team that even the King should watch out for. I am always drawn to books about strong Scot Highlanders and the women they love. I hope to read many more in the future. In the meantime, this one will remain in a special place in my heart.

An OK Book, but not others. UPDATED,

My first book of Jacie Ivie and a pleasure to read. Maybe a pleasure to read since I was able to do so in one day (a rarity in my household). Read another Jackie Ivy book and terrible, terrible. - only worth 1 star. Can't even tell which time period. She give you these little "historical" tidbits, which are really worthless. There were many missing pieces of the puzzle that were not explained (i.e. Dallis father, their background, three-year lapse, poor Dallis' cousin, her clan reaction, etc.). Seriously, Dallis' clan were all killed (implied in the story), but she wasn't even hearbroken - "OH, Well, that's what happens" is the feeling I got.

I must have missed something,

!!!WARNING MY REVIEW WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS!!!! LOTS AND LOTS OF SPOILERS!!!!!!!Warning my review will NOT be very nice/tactful/sympathetic. If this is going to bother you then don't read it. Where to start? For me the book just had so many problems. I guess I will start by telling what the problems are with each of the characters. First is the main guy Payton Dunn-Fadden. For a man set in these times he is pretty typical. The thing that irked me about him is his lack of intelligence and control. 70% of the book stems of off one major mistake that this guy makes. And I am not talking about when he forced Dallis to marry him. Near the beginning of the book a guy from the Kilchurning clan comes to the castle to reclaim his former fiance. So when he shows up Payton runs at him in a rage and is beating the crap out of him while Kilchurning's men are beating on Payton. Payton is beating to within an inch of his life. My god how stupid is this guy? If he had used his little brain and thought to bring a weapon with him and kill the guy the rest of the long and complicated journey they went on would not have been needed. Now for Dallis. I don't understand what see was thinking for most of the book. She hates Payton for what he has done and sends men to kill him. But whenever Payton is around her she feels strong feelings for him. And this is what puzzled me. The two main characters never did anything to make the other fall in love with them. For the first half of the book they are mean, spiteful, rude, and uncaring to each other. The only thing they did have was good sex and that was it. And then half way through the book the author must have just decided to screw all the rules and make them love each other for no good reason. Now that they are in love we have to make some problems for them. Lets use the good old device of making one of the main characters screw up big time and then try really hard to hide it only to have somebody else reveal it to the other later. Always makes for a good time. The other person I just have to bash on is the king. I don't think I have read a more stupid, greedy, ass of a king before. Kilchurning runs to the king later in the book and tells him the baby Dallis is carrying is his so that he can gain control of the castle. When Payton shows up and tells the king that the man lies the king says that Kilchurning said that Payton would show up and lie about the child. And lets point out that Payton has been the kings champion for years and that Dallis is Payton's wife. But the king does not care about that so the only way to find out who is telling the truth is to have Dallis stay at his castle for the next four months of her pregnancy so that they can verify who the father really is. And a month before the baby is due the king comes out and says that Kilchurning admitted the lie and that he pardoned him too and sent him on his way. That was it, Kilchurning got off scott free and the king kept them there just to have some fun with them and make some more money off of Payton. Man, what a great guy. I must have missed something based on what the other reviewers said. Maybe I lost some chapter or my kindle has a glitch. From what I read the book was for the most part disjointed, stupid, and unnecessary. If what I have written doesn't sound like a good book to you then don't waste your money. But then again it could be just me and that I missed what the others saw but I doubt it. Also, I want to remind everybody that reads this that I know that this review was not nice/tactful. It was not meant to be. I am trying to give the raw, if opinionated, truthful facts of what actually happens in this piece of literature that is trying to pass itself off as a good romance novel. |
