5.0 out of 5 stars Slick Rick, July 10, 2009
This review is from: Knighted by the Blues (Audio CD)
One of Derringers better output of the blues he has put out.
Not quite as good as Jackhammer Blues or Blues Deluxe, but one of
his best. When you can play the Blues like Mr. Derringer, pretty much
anything you put out is great. When he played with Johnny Winters, those
were his best years, two of the best guitarists ripping it up. It starts off with "Mess around", a fast bluesy tune, one of the best tunes on this cd is where he does an excellent version of Mr. Hendrix's "If 6 were 9".
The title track-"Knighted by the Blues" is an excellent slow bluesy tune on this cd. Cat on a hot tin roof, another old classic tune that Derringer turns into an excellent blues/jazz jam. It finishes with Funny I still Love you so, another great slow blues number by Derringer. Most of these tunes were written by Derringer & his Wife Jenda.

I agree with the other reviewer that this is one of the better Blues cd's by Derringer. It's nice to see that he is still pluggin away and making great music still after a great career already. This is a 5 star for sure. Knighted by the blues just a great song on this cd too.

5.0 out of 5 stars bluesman extrordinaire, June 4, 2009

This man is such an expert at playing the blues. I've been into Rick right from the start. I guess i was so lucky that the record companies in Australia back in Ricks early days carried his offerings.
I have everything he's put out. and I'm always looking forward to his new releases.
I find being a security guard and doing long 12 hour shifts at night sitting in my vehicle, I can bring along his cds and listen to some great music.

Rick is a personal friend of mine, even though he does not know me. I have been listening to him since the Sloopy days. Saw him with Johnny And, rejoiced when he became a professing Christian, and have purchased many if not most of his albums. He is really a great guitarist even if his style is not exactly my preference. He simply is one of the best there is, and I do not refrain from telling others about him.

Knighted by the Blues is a bit jazzy in places, but all-in-all it is a good purchase. Some of the better cuts are Sometimes and My Gals Kinda Crazy, but my favorite is Ray Charles' Funny I Still Love You.

Rick's best CD ever is Tend the Fire. It seems to be unavailable in the US; I bought it off the web a few years back from some place in London. That is a five stars plus CD. KBTBs is not a Tend the Fire, but it is a quality jazz-blues CD worthy of adding to your collection. Enjoy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Still Rockin', January 27, 2010

This is a great blues CD from a great guitarist. I was glad to see that Rick's still playing great tunes but sad to see how evidentally "whipped" he's become.
