Book Description

Dragonmaster Trilogy December 4, 2007
Dragonmaster Hal Kalais leads three squadrons of Deraine's forces in a combined land and air assault to push the enemy back to their capital and end the war once and for all. But Hal is wounded and captured during the battle. Now, bound to a prison castle by dark sorcery, Hal plans a daring escape to secure not only his freedom, but also the freedom of his people...

Editorial Reviews

From Publishers Weekly

As shown in the second Dragonmaster fantasy, in which dragonmaster Hal Kailas leads the Derainian army's drive to finally end the war with the Roche, Bunch's work is far more about war than about dragons, who have little personality or individuality. Kailas, now a lord, makes a resourceful hero, managing a daring escape from an impregnable enemy prison, but the rest of the cast are mostly one-dimensional. Good battle scenes and Bunch's grasp of military strategy will please fans of the first book in the trilogy, A Storm of Wings (2003). Though Bunch died in July 2005, he had completed the final volume, The Last Battle, which has already been released in the U.K. (Mar.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Writing a little sloppy, but exciting book, July 16, 2008

This isn't a masterpiece of literature. The writing sometimes doesn't flow and sometimes it is plainly non-grammatical.
However, it is a great story and makes for a good reading that is capable of keeping me up at night and cancel the stresses of my life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Military strategy, August 27, 2007

The military strategy was outstanding and throwing dragons into the mix made it more interesting.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting take on fantasy genre, February 15, 2007
By
I am usually not a military fiction reader, but I did get hooked on this series from the first book, Dragonmaster. I devoured the first two books and can't wait to get the third.
For hard core sword and scorcery fans, you do have to get used to some of the "modernisms" that the author used. Sometimes the dragons seem to be nothing more than fighter planes, which I guess what the author intended. But his characters are strongly built and very real. The effect of war on people and countries tweaks your compassion.
I am curious though on the cover of the new edition, if the artist even read the series....or did I miss some of the fire-breathing dragon battles.
Like fantasy thats not cookie cutter, pick this up you'll enjoy it!
