Book Description

Harlequin Historical March 1, 1997
Though Emmeline Spencer captured Jamie Harcourt as her prisoner, the rogue adventurer stole kisses from her that were sweet beyond her wildest imagining. Yet how could Emma love the man suspected of the murder of her beloved sister?

Heir to the Sommerville legacy of bravery, Jamie Harcourt had willingly entered a maze of intrigue knowing full well there was little hope of escape. Though he hadn't counted on the interference—or the inspiration—of the Lady Emmeline.

Review

Deeply embroiled in a plot to thwart a French invasion that could easily brand him a traitor if it fails, Jamie Harcourt returns home for what he fears could be the last time. Jamie visits with his family, and later talks with his younger twin, Hugh, who feels animosity toward his brother. Jamie blames himself for an attack that left Hugh lame and himself wearing an eye patch, and ever since Jamie has been the black sheep of the family, earning a reputation of a rake and rogue. Unbeknownst to him, Emmeline Spencer has joined the minstrels who are performing at Harte Court hoping Jamie will be there. He had been accused of her sister Celia's horrible murder, and Emmeline plans to take him prisoner and make him confess. Jamie comes to her aid after her uncle hits her, and sparks ignite between them, yet Emmeline goes through with her plan and abducts Jamie. Jamie makes good his escape and meets with Henry of Bolingbroke but he suspects they are being watched. Jamie tackles the interloper, then takes the unconscious captive to his ship only to find out it is Emmeline. When they arrive at their destination, Emmeline is forced to spend time alone with Jamie since he introduces her as his betrothed. They fall in love and secretly marry. Hugh arrives to warn Jamie that his nemesis, Giles, is on his way to arrest him for the murder of Celia's maid, and just when Jamie is meeting with the French, Hugh convinces Emmeline to take him to Jamie knowing Giles is waiting for him. Jamie is arrested for treason and is taken to the tower. Emmeline goes to the only person she knows who can help him, but Jamie has confessed to treason and he is scheduled to hang. This is book two of the Knight series and fans of Ms. Barclay will not want to miss it. She is consistent with her wonderful writing and story telling. Her plots are intriguing and always superb. The internal tension and conflict between characters is well thought out and especially well written.Again and again, Ms. Barclay proves that she is one of the best authors today in historical romance! She hasn't let me down...ever! Suzanne Barclay is dynamic! Knight's Divided is another winner and a must read! Dear Ms. Barclay, don't ever stop writing! 5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Love Story, August 8, 2004
This review is from: Knights Divided (The Sommerville Brothers) (Harlequin Historical) (Mass Market Paperback)
This is one of the few love stories that I find myself reading over and over again. The two main characters are absolutely loveable and unlike many other romances the leading man has an excellent sense of humor that kept me giggling to the end. The leading lady is a strong willed woman who fights for what she believes in, as well as for her man.
