I'm the sort that uses some form of wrench every day, from minor plumbing to heavy work on a 50 ton overhead crane.

This is my new favorite tool, instantly inserted into my carry around bag.

Obviously need a pair of groove joint pliers to complement it for when dealing with something round (stuck hydraulic fittings, garden hose, etc.), but for anything that has a bolt head to it (hex or square) that you can sneak it onto, it's great. The simple act of removing pressure from the handles loosens the jaws enough to rotate it around the fastener, and applying gentle pressure seems to "find" the flats quickly. In other words, it's almost as fast as a ratcheting wrench. I have the ten inch version, and it seems you can put a huge amount of torque on them. I'm going to have to buy another pair for work, as these are not leaving my sight.

I can't say enough good things about this item. One use was enough to make me actually stop and stare at the tool in wonder - great build, seems rather tough (a couple years will prove how tough, but I've got faith in 'em), easy to use, and very intuitive. Knipex hit a home run with these.

I bought these pliers over the weekend and they arrived early on Monday. Since receiving them I got a chance to use them several times for different small plumbing projects, one of which was fixing a toilet. They definitely feel sturdy and I expect to get many years reliable service out of them - considering the apparent build quality and manufacturers reputation I would be highly surprised if I did not. They are no doubt expensive, even at half the suggested MSRP. However, if you do a lot of remodeling work like me or are a professional plumber, I believe you will be able to see the value in this product. Quite simply, this product in my opinion is superior to the good old adjustable crescent wrench, which is simply unable to grip as tightly as the Knipex. I decided on the 10-inch model because I figured I'd get the most use out of that size but I will probably end up buying the 7-inch model next, as its smaller size will let me get into tighter areas. Anyway, I'd be more worried about it getting stolen or lost than it actually breaking but time will tell how it holds up to repeated usage and you can be sure I will change my review to something less flattering if they don't last. My initial impression so far is that they are excellent and as far as I can tell, are one of a kind.

This is one of the coolest tools ever created. Not only does it work as a crescent wrench that doesn't strip fasteners, it can be used to crush, crimp or hold things due to the torque produced by the handles and its joint. Although it is expensive, the quality is superior to any other toolmaker out there; the steel is hard, durable and corrosion resistant and the handles are comfortable and durable. If you can't get a bolt off with these things, at least they will not strip the bolt as the grip increases the harder you turn them. The only disadvantage of this tool is that they are not good in tight areas since the width of both handles is obviously much larger than normal wrenches, but the jaws are no bigger than most crescent wrenches. I would certainly recommend throwing away any crescent wrenches you may have and getting this instead, but it will not replace a good set of combination wrenches. Even if you don't need an adjustable wrench this is a good tool to have since it is also good at removing stripped bolts and the other uses mentioned previously.

It is a good thing for customers that Knipex (like many other German companies) make their product in Germany and don't get them made in China like a lot of American companies. As a result, they make consistently high-quality products like these pliers. I've use them for over a year for a variety of uses ranging from tightening large bolts on power tools to fixing my wife's jewellery. Very versatile and worth paying for a quality tool that will last me years. The soft handles provide excellent griping traction and the parallel smooth jaws ensure that bolts don't get stripped and damaged. The pliers are versatile and their use is only limited by your imagination. A pity American companies can't learn from the German example by keeping manufacturing in the USA (a reason why the quality has dropped in American products).

I work on solar systems primarily and having a handy, great quality adjustable wrench is a must. I bought one of these a few months ago and haven't looked back since. The grips are very comfortable, haven't worn out in the slightest and are a great value add. The teeth are strong, well made and haven't chipped or worn (but be careful, they are often stronger than the materials they are gripping.
I even bought the matching set in their Cobra line I liked these so much.
I'd highly recommend these for any toolbox/kit, homeowner, weekend warrior or professional. Just a great product.

This ain't your Daddy's pliers for holding bolts. To do it right I've always used a wrench but this baby does just as good of a job as a wrench but one size fits all. That's great when you don't exactly know what you'll need. Highly recommended.
