5.0 out of 5 stars AWwwwwwesomeee!, May 8, 2010

This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
I'm a novice knitter and artsy. I cannot, cannot cannot follow a pattern in the books! This book is written for people like me. It's step by step with lots of illustrations. There are no pictures, but the illustrations suffice. It doesn't try to be too hip and doesn't seem to be treating me like an expert. There are things I can progress to but for now, it stays with me in the knitting bag. I looked at all the books and checked this from the library first. I found it was best for me! Love that it's spiral bound!! Happy knitting! Highly recommend it!

1.0 out of 5 stars Made my brain hurt,.., January 11, 2010
This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
I question if this would be valuable reference material for intermediate or advanced knitters, but I can attest to its uselessness for beginners. As a generally handy/crafty person I found the diagrams and instructions for basic knits to be generally unusable. By simply following instructions, I managed to fail at every single method of casting on. I went back to the most basic method of casting on (the "e" method) and after several attempts managed to figure it out. The result of which was a moment of realization as to how generally overcomplicated and/or wrong the authors instructions were.

In short, while the author seems to be witty and entertaining, the illustrations are horrid and the instructions are lacking in ability to actually instruct.

For beginners I recommend either finding a local knitting club to sit with or looking through some videos on youtube. These knitting motions are infinitely easier to learn by watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very handy!, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
I really like this book. It's exactly what I thought it would be like. Alot of things I already knew and some I didn't. But I wanted it to throw in my knitting bag and be there when I'm having a brain freeze and need some extra help. I also love Vickie's sense of humor. I think it's similar to mine so I can really relate to it! I recommend it to any knitter.
