5.0 out of 5 stars AWwwwwwesomeee!
I'm a novice knitter and artsy. I cannot, cannot cannot follow a pattern in the books! This book is written for people like me. It's step by step with lots of illustrations. There are no pictures, but the illustrations suffice. It doesn't try to be too hip and doesn't seem to be treating me like an expert. There are things I can progress to but for now, it stays with...

I question if this would be valuable reference material for intermediate or advanced knitters, but I can attest to its uselessness for beginners. As a generally handy/crafty person I found the diagrams and instructions for basic knits to be generally unusable. There are no pictures, but the illustrations suffice. It doesn't try to be too hip and doesn't seem to be treating me like an expert. There are things I can progress to but for now, it stays with me in the knitting bag. I looked at all the books and checked this from the library first. I found it was best for me! Love that it's spiral bound!! Happy knitting! Highly recommend it!

I question if this would be valuable reference material for intermediate or advanced knitters, but I can attest to its uselessness for beginners. As a generally handy/crafty person I found the diagrams and instructions for basic knits to be generally unusable. By simply following instructions, I managed to fail at every single method of casting on. I went back to the most basic method of casting on (the "e" method) and after several attempts managed to figure it out. The result of which was a moment of realization as to how generally overcomplicated and/or wrong the authors instructions were.

In short, while the author seems to be witty and entertaining, the illustrations are horrid and the instructions are lacking in ability to actually instruct.

For beginners I recommend either finding a local knitting club to sit with or looking through some videos on youtube. These knitting motions are infinitely easier to learn by watching.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very handy!, February 24, 2009
This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
I really like this book. It's exactly what I thought it would be like. Alot of things I already knew and some I didn't. But I wanted it to throw in my knitting bag and be there when I'm having a brain freeze and need some extra help. I also love Vickie's sense of humor. I think it's similar to mine so I can really relate to it! I recommend it to any knitter.

This book has earned a spot on my knitting table. I keep it next to me while I work so I can remind myself of certain stitches I haven't used in a while, or for advice about yarn. I love it. If you're an expert knitter who has been knitting for years and years, you might not be as excited by this book as I am, but most of us need a little reminder now and then. If you feel the same way, get this book!

Belongs in every knitter's library. I'm keeping my copy in with my current project. The answers are all in there! Can't remember just how to SSK? How about casting on long tail method? What size are those needles you bought at the yard sale with no markings? Small enough to carry with you and big enough to hold all this wonderful information!

5.0 out of 5 stars So Useful, October 30, 2011
This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
I carry this book in my knitting bag and I have never regretted buying it. I am an intermediate level knitter, I would say, but every time there's something I'm not sure about, I always wonder, will this tiny little book really give me the answer? And every time, it does, it continues to amaze me how much useful information she packed into such a small, portable package. Well done! And the illustrations are so great, they make it really easy to follow and understand. I love everything about this book. If you're looking to buy one book as your portable knitting reference, this is the one I would recommend.

I am new to knitting, although I have crocheted for many years. I was looking for a book that I could take with me in my project bag and this one is perfect for that. It has complete enough instructions for the different stitches, has a how-to-fix-it section for those all too often mistakes of the beginner, and even has a stitch/guage counter and ruler included, and is small enough to fit in any project bag. I have found this a great help for my on-the-run projects. The illustrations are quite detailed and easy to understand so that even I the beginner can complete the stitches correctly.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautifully Illustrated Take Along Knitting Essential, June 20, 2008
This review is from: Knit Aid: A Learn It, Fix It, Finish It Guide for Knitters on the Go (Hardcover)
This little book has so much information in it, and it flows well. It's a convenient size to throw into a knitting bag to take along for reference. I especially love the illustrations done by Leela Corman. She is a very talented artist, and authors are fortunate to have her agree to illustrate their books. Also enjoyed "You Grow Girl" which was also illustrated by Leela Corman. Great work Vickie and Leela!!

Vickie's book is a great resource for either the experienced knitter or a beginner. It's small so it fits in your beach bag or right along side your favorite knitting chair. Her lively style makes you want to grab your needles and try something new. A great purchase and the price is right!
