5.0 out of 5 stars A real heartwarmer, August 5, 2005

This review is from: Knit Along With Debbie Macomber - A Good Yarn (Leisure Arts #4135) (Paperback)
My MIL gave this to me as a gift, and it's fantastic! While in some ways it's advertising for Macomber's novels, the theme gives it a true "Knit Along" feel. Patterns are written in plain English, with a wide variety of skill levels; a section in the back offers basic techniques, reference charts, and illustrations for those who need a little help. The print and illustrations are large, and there are big, beautiful photographs and bold color sprinkled throughout.

I do appreciate that each yarn type is included, but what I love most is *how* it's included: there's a reference inside the back cover for the exact brands, colors, and amounts of yarn used in each project photo. Within the pattern itself, you're simply provided yarn weight, amount needed, and color suggestions (when needed). I really enjoyed having this information kept separate!

I'm planning to start with the First Steps Baby Blanket (a cute eyelet pattern), translate the Vera's Scarf pattern into a lacy shawl, and see what happens from there!

I really am enjoying this book. There is a WIDE variety of patterns to please most anyone. I also like the fact that the patterns are specific in naming the yarn used which is a big help. Directions are very well done. All in all a great knitting book.

I really like the novel of the same name. I am excited about the way to knit socks. I knitted the socks in the novel as well as the socks in this book. I have also used the knitting concept for other projects, like mittens and sleeves. The idea seems complicated but it isn't if one reads and does the instructions slowly. I made my first pair of socks for my daughter (an adult) and my infant grandson with the zany self-striping yaarn. Oh, what fun it was to make and then give away. I hope you will try it sometime soon. Just learning to knit? What a great project to begin on.

Wonderful patterns. I love to knit so it makes sense that the patterns are great. Love her novels also, can't wait till a new knitting novel comes out. That way she has new patterns to go along with it. I myself made the Rainbow poncho in Red Heart classic and named it Monet rainbow, it turned out beautiful. All my church friends loved it. Some ladies in my church knit shawls for the elderly and sick and I do help with that. Keep up the good work Debbie and thanks.

5.0 out of 5 stars Debbie Macomber Books, November 9, 2008
I have read and enjoyed Debbie Macomber books for years. But I am especially enjoying all the books with the patterns in them. I am involved with leading a group of women in knitting (crocheting) hats/scarves for the homeless and then we also knit (or crochet)baby blankets for a hospital in the area that services very needy families. We have found many useful patterns in the books. It is very nice to have many books and patterns that address in a very postive way the problems that many women face and find a group of caring, loving friends in their knitting/crocheting groups.
