Lovely but......,
By BJean "BJean" (El Paso, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Knit Baby Blankets! (Hardcover)
Lovely but the first blanket I knitted contained 4 major errors. I saw the "Sheep Dreams" pattern, loved it, bought the book, and started knitting. I don't expect knitting patterns to be perfect all the time but 4 major errors in one pattern is very sloppy editing. I fixed the instructions and finished the blanket. It is lovely but I won't be knitting any more blankets out of this book and won't buy any more edited by Gwen Steege nor published by Storey Publishing. There are too many alternatives with error-free instructions from which to choose.

author can't count,

Book is generally well written and clear until you go to make an item. The bumble bee booties are very cute, and the pattern is straightforward - only it isn't right - the numbers do not add up, time and time again. Had to completely improvise.

I'm back to knitting again after a long time. I am a self-taught knitter/crocheter and still consider myself a beginner. I've knitted blankets and crocheted a baby sweater years ago. This is a sturdy book-small enough to fit in your purse. It has full-page photos and clear instructions. I bought this book for the Aran baby blanket pattern, which is beautiful. While I'm waiting for the 16-inch #7 an #8 circular needles to arrive that I had to order (couldn't find them anywhere, but found them on Amazon), I've started knitting a corner blanket (pattern in this book) for my 7 year-old; the 10 year-old wants one, too. It has a detailed edge, but is very easy-great instructions, so I wasn't intimidated. I love this book and can't wait to start that baby blanket for my new grandbaby! I also bought Knit baby Head and Toes by the same author.

LOVE this book!,

I've had a couple of baby gifts to either buy or make this year so I went to my local library to see if I could find some useful knitting project ideas. I borrowed "Knit Baby Blankets", renewed it three times and realized I simply had to have this book. While it offers excellent and varied options for baby items (and not just blankets), some of the patterns can easily be adapted to other projects for all ages. It's comprehensive, and unlike knitting project books geared for more experienced knitters this takes little for granted. If you know what a baby, a blanket and yarn are and have strung loops together on knitting needles before you should be able to tackle any and all of the projects in this book. And besides, just look at that adorable baby on the front cover. That face always makes me smile and I don't even LIKE babies.

An absolutely wonderful book filled with so much helpful information about knitting baby blankets. From suggestions to find and use and best yarn, care of the blanket, great descriptions of the type of blanket, i.e. receiving, crib or carriage blanket. And all of this information is within the first 21 pages. I found it very useful and I know I will refer to this book often. Some of the patterns are for a more experienced knitter. But there are plenty of great ideas for easy to knit blankets. The instructions were good and easy to follow. I would highly recommend this book for anyone who knits if only for the great information it contains.

A good selection,

There are a number of baby blankets in here. They areange from the relatively easy to ones that are a bit more difficult. Each blanket is unique and beautiful. There are ones using different colors together and ones that utilize just one color. A great gift for anyone who knits a lot of baby blankets as gifts.
